I've seen it mentioned a few times, so for anyone not overly familiar with playing bass power chords, the way Harris plucks them normally is to hold the index and middle fingers together and pluck down with them striking the strings with your fingernails. Depending on speed/song sometimes you can just sort of strum them and other times, for me at least, it's more like a flick than a strum. He also doesn't anchor his thumb so that also makes that technique easier compared to if you keep your thumb on the pickup or body of the bass since you can support the fingers with the thumb.

Obviously do what works best for you, but just throwing that out there if anyone wanted to try to do it the "proper" way.

This guy here also does a ton of bass playthroughs of IM songs and since the videos aren't edited by Steve Harris on a caffeine bender (nothing else explains any of their live videos since Rock in Rio, pretty sure he changes camera angles in beat with the music), you can actually see what's being played. -

It's a bit similar to clawhammer style banjo.

  2. Hi,

So, I'd like to use my DAW (mixcraft 9) to record myself playing tracks. I was able to do this once, but when I tried it later, it didn't work. Both in LAS and SA, the game just stops and brings me to the end screen. The first time (when I was able to do it) there was no sound in the game, but it gave me the notes to play and I could record it into my DAW, but now it won't do that.

Please note, I'm not interested in using game capture type programs. That's not what I'm after here. Rather trying to use RS to merely record myself playing.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  3. So, the intermediate rhythm is definitely hard but I don't think it's that out of place in intermediate. I'm definitely an intermediate and it took me 2 times to pass it on SA after 1 time playing through in LAS so I think it's challenging bur not something I can't do. However, I think it tends to lend itself towards higher scores (accuracy) than players like me deserve because I think I can register lots of notes just by slapping strings.

  4. So I think this week's intermediate lead is harder than the advanced. I only played the intermediate one twice (once LAS, once SA) and played the advanced a couple more times than that, but it seems like the intermediate really did not want to register a lot of those power chords for me. Also, the arrpegio (I think that's what it is) was quite tricky and the little solo was rough. Anyway, have a good week everybody.

Nice and easy one this week. Fun rhythm song.
