  1. We must admit that guitarists are strange people, I remember talking to some real show guys years ago. WEIRD.

RS 2014 apparently sold up to 2,43 mio while

Just Dance 2014 sold over 6mio,

So which music teaching game gets an new update every year since 2009

and I really have no idea what this music game is about, except it probably can be played with no guitar. :D

Luckily I hope we won't get a Rocksmith Disney Party

  2. I got some thumb ache too, I wasn't relax trying to play beyond my level of speed, RS is an awful teacher in this domain.

Why does it only let you play the song slower in the Riffrepeator, and not let you reduce the BPM just a little for the real song.

I got some good advices from Youtube teacher Pebber Brown,

where to put the thumb, when you slide up and down the fretboard.

The thumb should follow the position of the middle finger.

But when my fingers slide on the fret, my thumb often stayed in position.

    Holding to tight.

My advice is, the thumb should always be able to slide at any moment.

I trained this, away from RS, and gone was the pain.

  3. I tried the video recording to play away from RS, and to stop / rewind the tabs. But with low obvious improvements.

But lately I'm currently completely amazed how easy I start to memorize tabs, and keep them memorized for a longer period.

    It's songs that don't exceed 3 minutes.

It came as a surprising evolution,

I started to play a sector of tabs slowly in Riffrepeator.

Then I  played it without looking, until I got 0 errors in Riffrepeator, kind of self-made Mastermode

Then I moved to the next sector.

Then I played both sectors without looking, until I got the beat right, and so on.

I also repeat the notes on an amp, without RS's stress of the real track .

It really feels different, it's more direct, you hear the slightest errors in finger positioning and string picking.

A learning software called "Guitar Scales Method" gave me the obvious idea.

The author explains learning guitar is like building a wall,

you can't build the second row, until the first row is dry.

You can't build on wet concrete.

That's however what RS14 offers : playing mostly on wet slippery ground, and that's why progression is limited.

In the future, we can always hope to be able to hide known notes, this way memorizing will be faster.

I still have a problem with speed, I just can't pass the 90%, but I'm sure, next year, I'll have that surprising evolution too.

  4. I never make requests, but if you ever have the time to visit my profile, maybe you like this classic, for which I can't find a tab.

And I will still have to wait a year or another before I can do it all by ear.

If I remember well, you have special abilities  ;)

  5. If you have RS12, the original, the cDLC are somewhat hard to find here, because many links have been gone.

If you have RS12, then you have the cable, in which case you should be able to find a very cheap DVD of Rs14, in a local shop where they simply want to get rid of their stock of cable-less versions.

Once you have RS14, the tutorials will make sense, and you will have fun. :D

  6.

@ @@TomSawyer2112 Thx guys. Removed those from list. It's quite hard now days even found any issues listed, so i think list starts to shrink soon, and that's awesome.

If you list a song any song which has an issue you should list the charter as well so they know there is a problem ( i.e. they get a notification if they are mentioned ) as I for one would like to know so I can fix it.

Right : I visit this page sometimes to check if none of my customs is mentioned.

I p.m. the charter to fix his Gary Moore: Midnight Blues.

Also it takes less then a minute to fix the missing bass tone, there is little hope, as he doesn't any update since feb.2014.

I will probably have to release a corrected version.

  7. Thanks for your confirmation, raynebc,

Yes, a GP file is not reliable enough to change sync in EOF,

Even with midi import, a GP wave export may not be synced in EOF, when the GP has tempo de-/acceleration (which is rare)

The 3rd solution is a bit awkward, but working well, I just had to write it down to remember it next time. ;)

It can also be used to copy a set of notes from one position to another with differently synced beats,

with the notes "landing" on these beats.

  8. After having

    - synced a project in EOF (with a lot of anchors and different BPM inbetween)

    - added silence and an offset to 0 (additional beat)

    I sometimes would like to

    - import a complete alternate GP5 for comparison

    - import a part of a GP5 consisting of some corrected/alternate bars (i.e. Solo)

    in an unused track.

Tabs are imported in EOF at the 1st beat, with the BPM of these starting positions.

Am I missing something in EOF, (or has this been answered before ?)

    but it doesn't seem possible

to import a Gp5 in EOF at the closest/next beat of the current position (green vertical line)

and respect the BPM of these positions.

    Solutions :

    1. In EOF "Beat - Push Offset up" to remove the starting empty pause beat.

        Import the GP5

Then "Beat - Push offset back/to zero" to restore the starting pause beat.

(only possible if the GP5 starts at the first bar/beat, not possible to insert a GP5 anywhere)

    2. Adding empty bars and pauses in GP5 (the imported part gets imported at the right beat)

a single bar (in case of importing a GP5 starting at the first beat, which will be 2nd beat in EOF)

19 bars (in case of importing a partial GP5 starting at the 20th beat in EOF)

    3. Starting a 2nd instance of EOF

        Import the alternate/partial GP5

Copy notes and paste them at the current position (green line) in the 1st instance of EOF

Locate the 1st Tech Notes in the 2nd instance of EOF, move the green line to the right position in the 1st instance of EOF

        copy and paste Tech Notes.

Or is their a more immediate way ?

  9. I agree, I have my periods, checking theory, correcting my technique, training scales, speed, doing customs,

and I feel the puzzle completing.

And RS keeps me coming back every day, as well as this site.

Before I was "running on empty" (oh, missing custom ;) )

RS alone won't do, but it's like a good soccer coach, who keeps players motivated.

  10. Back in time, early 70ies, so many children got disgusted first years to "serious" music by serious "teachers", meaning "Classic",

because of all this theory stuff.

And then you could not even touch the instrument, first you had to sing the scales / notes, my God I hated to sing.

And then you could not even choose your instrument, it had to be piano.
Guitar ? No way, instrument of hippies, drugs and sex.
E-Guitar ? Even worse, nothing but noise.

Its like forcing kids who want to play soccer to study FIFA Laws and Tactics before even touching a ball on the Field.

And then when they are allowed to touch the instrument, the ball, you give them an American football.

Practice and Theory go side by side, little progression on one side gives little progression on the other side.

It is necessary to know how, why, when to use the theory, or else it will be quickly forgotten.

  11. Ill let you adopt this i guess, ill cancel my thread and ill keep up to date on exercises and do my best to make some and label them under "You" now.

Don't cancel your thread as you can still update by adding some features.

You may of course use the little bonus arrangements I added.

The user still has the choice, and probably will go first on your download pages.

if we agree on the name, I'll link to your page.

  12. The sound bug doesn't appear as long as you use the delete button instead of the escape key.

    What's that Sound bug?

Riff Repeator should have options to :

stop - forward - rewind, select starting and ending point A to B (and not depend on sectors predefined)

display notes also as a real guitar tablature (top horizontal scrolling), zoom in and out.

    turn off Dynamic Difficulty.

hide known notes, to make it easier to play it from memory.

And then, at Ubisoft, did they ever hear about "plugins" in many music software, except RS ?

I would like to use an Amplitube plugin.

Yes, if they don't keep backwards compatibility of .pscarc, their new baby might be stillborn.

And If they add an instrument, it better be drums, the only reason I go back to RB3, sometimes.

  13. Project to gather, organize and standardize, and improve exercise customs

    Rules recommended

    1. Arrangement is in "Lead", and bonus/alternate arrangements

    2. Tuning is E-Standard (except for special situations, like 5string Bass)

    3. Record page (submitted cDLC) : Artist name "You", Album name "Exercises" (beware of typos)

Ignition search "Exercises" order on Artist - should give a most complete list.

    4. Exercises should list together in RS14, sorted by Artist

"You" display under "Y",  not overloaded letter.

"You Bass" for Bass only Exercises
"You Artist" for Exercises by Artists
    "You Riff" for practical Exercises

    5. Filenames (no space), "YouBass, YouArtist,YouRiff" ....psarc

followed  main topic exercised, sub-topics (style, root notes), origin, charter.

For easy updates, save all exercises in a subdir of DLC (DLC\Exercises)

I renamed customs (original name and charter is part of the new name)

Download by clicking on "You": (not this )

Or jump to the charters page to use the original custom/name

    Remove doubles

(Same Internal song DLC Keys of 2 versions may hang RS)

    USE Customsforge Manager

An almost complete collection can be downloaded as a zip file (170mb)

(this collection has not yet been updated to the remaster version)

Suggestions to add / improve customs / exercises are welcome.

    Further suggestions :

Aim is quality in form and content in the making of exercises

    • guitar mp3 track only if useful (to rhythm or melody)
(no guitar track allows more arrangements in different keys, tunings, root notes
    • drum/beat track is alive, better then dead boring metronome
    • metronome bonus arrangement added by checking Metronome in Toolkit/arrangement window
    • notes must be on beats!
    • no empty last sector
    • lyrics (long duration) for each sector to recall the topic exercised, player's focus
    • divide exercises in logical sectors, optimize fret hand positions
    • constant increase in difficulty ( not jumping from easy to hard back to easy)
    • don't overload a custom with different topics, tabs or riffs, 4-5 minutes duration optimal
    • use clean tone (except if Metal...)

    (... to be continued)

  14. I'm always interested in Exercises, Lessons or as we used to call them in the beginning "You" play.

Unluckily the search engine in RS is non-existent, so it's hard to locate them (I gather them in a folder).

I liked the "You" artist name, because there are not many artists with a "Y".

Also doing exercises is not easy, because of the responsibility of teaching others.

I still don't feel ready to make a complete lesson of a subject, and give the necessary recommendations to do it right.

Nothing worse in learning then having to erase a bad habit.

Of course a simple custom may evolve until complete.

But I didn't see evolutions in the submitted cdlc,

Either the difficulty may not have linear progression, or the taught subject may not be described.

Which leaves me longing for something different.

95% of my training, I do it outside RS following Pebber Brown and Jim Bowley.

And the etudes.psarc can be converted back to GP5.

For the practical side, the Guitarnick is amazingly well done, with a lot of variety.

I adapted "The Lonely Man Blues" which however is easier to learn by video than by RS14.  ;)

  15. so basically, nothing much new in win10, hardware related,

Microsoft tries to steal lazy clients, who never change default configuration, by taking abusive measures with its OS.

For 30 years now, I never paid a single $ to that corporation, and avoided its product wherever possible,

without falling for the other abusive corporation and its IOS.

You want to support democracy on the internet,

you want independent sites like customsforge, made by people for the people,

support small companies and opensource.

  16. RS14 for the PS4 ?

with the laggy HDMI audio output, or less laggy nevertheless laggy optical audio output?

then fiddling with some jail-break tools?

You better keep the cable, sell your DVD

and buy a PC version which can now be found for less then 10€ (without cable).

  17. Instead of cleaning all the shit in my pc that i gathered, i would rather put up a fresh os if malware and all that shit's causing my cpu to overheat (not that it happened to me). That's just my opinion, because i would have no problem reinstalling the most part and keeping my pc clean tho.

I'm sure it's a even faster option, if the cause is taking too much time and effort to find.

But even if not, just cleaning would do the job, but there would be still some shit left that will slow down your pc. Well there will be always some leftovers tho.

If a hardware component is casuing all this heat try to save it or if the cpu won't cool off. You'll have to buy a new one instead.

    I don't agree : (with my modest 35years experience)

installing my win8 then upgrading to win8.1 needs at least 3-4 hours,

Cleaning the pc first time, once the right tools installed and running, (takes 1 hour),

(don't buy these optimizer tools, they do more wrong than right, causing blue screens of death),

takes 10 minutes every 2 weeks.

Unless you know how to do it right, I won't recommend to renew the paste on the CPU,

though it's true that the old paste might have been "cooked" and lost its qualities.

  18. Overheat may occur, when a - lets say - not up to date cpu has several apps running.

Specially malware can cause this, I've assisted some people in that way.

It's just incredible the shit they install without their knowledge, specially these free browser toolbars don't do you any good.

    Check your taskbar and processes.

I use Ccleaner and Spybot to keep my PC ...clean.

    I've stopped 25 processes in the startup-sequence  ;)

To check the heat I use HWinfo64, for some people my rescue came to late,

they had their cpu running constantly on 90° for several days/weeks because of malware running in the background.

The temperature on fast enough PC, the CPU and GPU (Graphic card)  should not rise above 60° at normal environment of 20-22° (correction : my GPU heats up to 80°C, running at full speed with RS running in the background in the song selection page)
