  1. About Import issues from GP5 tabs :

Grace notes fall in the Category "Ornaments" because they don't influence the melody/pitch

For E-Guitars, I would say 90%, are placed one or two frets lower than their principle note.

I use a short timed slide with nextlink, they can be chords too, not only single notes.

I make no difference between a Slide in and Grace note.

Sometimes it's preferable to play them as hammer on/offs depending on Fret hand position required of what to play next .

The Grace note maybe played as a full note after the principal note, so sliding up doesn't make sense.

but maybe that requires too much logic, and falls in the domain of defining Fret hand positions.

Ghost notes, another ornament, are the opposite of accented notes,

I make no difference between a finger Muted note and a ghost note.

Notations use ghost notes also as "let ring" of a sustained note along/beyond a next note (Crazy note in EOF)

which may make it harder to program an import logic.

Muted strings in a chord, most often a kind of 6x9 would better not to import in EOF,

Detection of such chords often fails in RS14, they are better accepted as 6_9

Another Ornament rarely used in GP are Staccatoes, cutoff's, the notes are not sustained the whole duration.

Most often they are interrupted by a pause / rest after the note, so they should be imported correctly.

They may not be imported when they are correctly shown with a dot under/above the classic notation.

A final Ornament are Strums, where chords are not played together, but very shortly one after another

Eric Johnson's Manhatten uses Slide ins, Grace notes, Staccatoes, Strums up and down.

Even a downslide from fret 14 to 2 on the lower string.

The GP5 is in the download folder of Pollo_28's cDLC.

I wanted to resume these import issues, because they are often overlooked in releases.

  2. I experienced that Dolby Home Theater v4 can greatly improve the sound on a 5.1 system, or worsen it, especially if a dialogue enhancer is activated, tones become as described. You don't have a Realtek sound chip, so I don't know if you can give it a try, but for anybody else reading this, it's night and day to have DHT4 or not.

  3. Is there any way EoF could convert grace notes? It's a pain in the ass when a song has a bunch of grace notes and i have to manually replace grace notes throughout the song. Maybe convert them into a regular note with a slide or hammer/pull off?

This has been discussed here a year ago, and the problem seems grace notes are attached to the following note, without a timing of their own. I don't know if GPalong handles these notes to make it easier to import. Same goes for Ghost notes that aren't a sustain of previous notes.

Their importance to music is underrated, but when I play "Ween - A tear for Eddie", without ghost or grace notes, people say "nice", but when I play with these "decorations" they say "WOW". It's not important for Headbangers though. ;)

  4. If it's any consolation, the menu system has hotkeys so you can access Song>Catalog>Add and >Delete with 4 key strokes each (ALT+S, C, A or D).

I consolated myself with these hotkeys, but if the mouse happens to point at the opened menu, the keys don't work.

Q opens Catalag, W E seek forward/backward, so why should it be a problem to use A to add and D to delete a Catalog.

(Catalog doesn't interfere with the notes, so there is no danger in changing sth. by mistake.)

A & D are not used as a stand alone shortkey, as far as I know.

  5. I understand that clicking on the song title opens the song info window.

But wouldn't it be logical, when I click on the charter, I get info on the charter, same for Album, Artist.

I really miss this "Filter Click" feature from the old search, because I got used to browse away from the keyboard with the mouse only.

  6. Bucketfel's Tab has a slide G11/13, and that sounds better, I prefer a bend on fret 12

    I would have preferred N Y C named

    Hold me forever 1.N,

    Hold me forever 2.Y,

    Hold me forever 3.C

they should be displayed together in RS in that order, because Y is in the continuity of N, while C is the final peek.

  7. I could sync "Our Selves" in 2 minutes in Play Along, so I don't think I'll need your xml, thanks

I checked your projects, you'll need some tone changes, flangers and whawha's. Good Luck.

Released : Harpoon the Goon (Pike 03, 3 Foot Clearence)

Work in Progress :  ... (need some time to learn/play the Gold Dragon 2-6)  B)

I try to care about ghost and grace notes that get lost when importing tabs to EOF and to RS14,

about the length of sustains and useless block notes in slides for best readability,

    fret hand positions for playability

I define phrases first, with catalog, then gather them into sections, this way DD should work best.

However Buckethead often doesn't have repeating patterns.

  8. New Buckethead customs for this WE ? Best Birthday present I ever received, Friday the 13th is my birthday, no kidding. :D

I'm currently working on Pike 86, Our Selves, the first Track.

Feel free to experiment with my tones, I changed Smirocsmo's tone in the Patrolman.

  9. I appreciate your thread, and I'll support it the best I can. I've currently made an inventory of all available tabs, about 230 and I'll check them for accuracy in the next days, to see what I'll do next. Bucketfel is a hell of transcriber, I hope he will continue his greatly appreciated job. There are currently 54 cDLC, not only Pikes.

  10. ultimate-guitar.com lists "tab pro" files, which have often better ratings, but can only be accessed/displayed with a paid membership.

Does anyone have subscribed to this, and are the tabs really better (i.e. earth heals itself)

They also give a lifetime membership for about 35$, so no big deal, but I would like to know if anybody made good/bad experience.

  11. I confirm that this happens randomly often, so often, I ctrl-c copy my post.

Unluckily the auto-save is empty after sending the post which doesn't display.

I noticed that reloading the page gives you back the auto-save content. Strange...

Sometimes I have to retry 2-3 times, sometimes it's impossible to send the post, after many trials.

I thought it was a browser problem, I use Opera.

  12. Fingerings and Arpeggio's are the weakest quality aspects of RS releases,

specially when charters don't (really) play guitar. No offense meant to charting Bass players ;)

It often starts with Tabs created by people who don't (really) play guitar.

It's not only placing fingers on the right note, a same note can be played on different strings.

Real guitarists are lazy, called economy of motion.

If they can hold all the next notes with a chord (arpeggio), they won't change most finger positions.

If the next note is close on another string, they won't move hand position.

If they bend a string, they prefer bending with the ring and middle finger on higher frets,

than with the index on fret 1 or 2

It's all about anticipation of what comes next, considering tuning and scales.

It would be great if some tool wizard could develop the limited option in EOF,

by an external tool which applies the rules in an automated process. (like the DDC)

This way thousands of cDLC could be corrected, ... including my own. B)

  13. You bring me sunlight in this cold winter night,  :) , give you double-thanks

There is still a tiny problem in LaVilla..., the acoustic tone doesn't kick in, only after a restart of the song,

maybe it's a simple sync on beat/phrase problem too.

    Major Topic, I would say,

maybe time to check back those Stone Roses cDLC from UKlooney, which never felt right.

  14.

This way one could select a band and immediately see all available albums in one panel, all the songs of the select band in another. Select an album the list of songs will filter to show just that album.

In the "old search", it was possible to click on a name (album, song, charter!) to get this name filter out.

That is lost in ignition, and the main reason why I use the "old search"

However the selected value filtered this value for all columns, which gave some weird results

I would recommend (if possible) a switch for a "Filter mode",

which allows adding several filters to narrow the result of queries,

by clicking on values in columns, which only apply on the selected column.

  15. Read my first lines, I said phrases are sub-elements of sections : in the picture

    http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/b167/25dmq383jhocdg2bg.jpg?size_id=4

The block between the blue brackets is a

    1. section, containing 5 phrases

Then 2 sections (with 2 phrases)

Then 1 section, with 3 phrases, containing a phrase already found in the first section.

Obviously you can have a same pattern of notes (phrase) in the intro and the verses (section)

Literally speaking, you can have the same phrases ( :D OMG, WTF :D ) in different paragraphs of a topic.

Anyway coolethan1, this topic is for advanced users, start publishing your first cDLC,

after 5 you will see the light. ;)

  16. Maybe I'm too old for changes, maybe I'm too melancholic for old stuff, but I dislike Ignition.

It certainly has some advantages, I can't really see which.

Still no quality votes for the chart, I can't set a column width, so I have this stupid date in all letters that covers partly the number of downloads...

Maybe it's my fault to stay with that old Opera Browser 12.16

What a mess to get to the charters page, can't set a comment like in the old days, some pages are simply dead, must be somewhat frustrating for charters to get no feedback.

Ignition gives me the feeling of fastfood, all flashy colors, serve yourself and leave. What a pity.

  17. If you want a real good dynamic difficulty, you need to be interested in the structure of a song, in the repeating patterns, in the linking bridges between different parts. No video can teach you that, you only need to be interested in music, I did this long before doing a cDLC, specially with Rush songs, but I wouldn't recommend Villa Strangiato to beginners :D . Try Pop songs instead, you can lead a horse to water, but you can not make him drink. B)
