  1. I'm doing it just like you, but I'd like to avoid my manually FHP overwritten by the generated process.

It's not about complexity, arpeggio's without FHP change can be pretty complex.

As far as I analyzed, it's more about slides in scales, which may be simple,

but the generated process doesn't consider

that after a slide the FHP has changed, and after a 2nd slide, it gets worse.

The generated process suggests fingers, not natural, not rational to play.

This is an example of a generated FHP

    http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/c217/fn4bcks8ag7kqlxzg.jpg

This is the corrected way to play it successfully

    http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/1ae0/ssflyo5yo8fqof3zg.jpg

To prevent the generated process from destroying my manual FHP

    I fix it in a ghost note (10) with a fingering 1

instead of simply adding a manual FHP

    http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/a86c/q6ghf3u4mkqmzmbzg.jpg

  2. I always generate then add/modify FHP over the one generated, this way can be really fast since many part are already quite correctly done with the automated generation. I don't really understand your issue their since i have never had any kind of problem by doing it the way i did so far.

It all depends on the kind of music. I don't run into these with Linking Park, lot of repeating Power Chords.

I don't know about InFlames, doesn't sound or look like Buckethead scales ;)

  3.

For a time I stopped bothering about FHP, because more then once, I erased my own manual FHP,

by allowing EOF the generate them

That would never be an automatic process. This would only happen if you asked EOF to replace the FHPs in the track difficulty with generated ones. If this is what you're referring to in your previous post instead of EOF replacing FHPs unexpectedly, let me know.

Yes, sometimes when saving, EOF asks to correct FHP, and not always understanding what's wrong, I did execute the generate process. So yes, this is not a fully automated process.

  4. I think there should be a "generate fret hand positions for all tracks and all difficulties" option. That way I don't have to switch to all my tracks and tell it to generate hand positions.

I like that, but you take the risk of erasing FHP set/corrected manually.

  5. I have the impression most charters generate FHP, and that's it.

For Rhythm parts with chords, the result is often alright.

but seldom for lead part with many scales with slides.

Doing FHP manually is very time consuming, with 937 notes i.e in the Patrolman, where I found all the issues mentioned above.

Should it really be disturbing, we add/change a manual FHP.

That's the way I do it.

For a time I stopped bothering about FHP, because more then once, I erased my own manual FHP,

by allowing EOF the generate them, because there is no difference made between generated and manual FHP.

Now I manage to protect myself, by setting a finger 1 to ghost notes.

Maybe you could examine to give manual FHP another internal status, and then ask, if they should be kept when regenerating?

I'll post some issues here soon, thanks

  6. This is what I experienced.

I set metronome on the main lead, and in RS14, the lead was crossed out, but I could select it, and use the bonus lead.

    It had metronome.

Then I went back to the Toolkit, bonus arrangement was selected, I'm sure I did not select it.

    I unselected it.

Then I had the Metronome ticking in the main arrangement in RS.

I always have a bonus arrangement in my cDLC, where I place the DD, but I cannot remember having 2 Bonus arrangements.

When I generate the cDLC lately, I got an error on first try, concerning the DD...xml.

    http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/3caa/2meci561lnb72xmzg.jpg

    I don't have any folder c:\projects

At this moment, all arrangements with metronome (main or bonus) got the flag "Bonus arrangement" set,

which by the way is not necessary, because non-bonus additional arrangements are named

Alternate arr. in RS14 Bonus section

I reproduced the same results with another cDLC.

I can't see a metronome xml file produced.

I now use my bonus arrangement as DD and Metronome.

I give you feedback of my next trials ;)

  7. Professional musicians often say the first thing to learn before playing a track are hand positions, be it on piano or other instruments.

In RS14, we can't have a global overview, and we meet FHP changes while playing.

Fret Hand Positions are underdeveloped in our customs, and more often are they confusing then helping while playing.

    i.e.

    1. If several beats ahead a note is played on the Fret 10, FHP is set on 10 much too early,

suggesting a lot of notes to be played by pinky, i.e. full bends on Fret 13, or barré's, which is not common.

    2. A slide with a finger obviously changes the FHP, but this is not taken into account.

If I slide with the  2nd Finger from Fret 11 up to 13, the new FHP should start at 12, instead of remaining on 10.

        Same for sliding down

    3. A pull down from Fret 10 to 8 should obviously set FHP to 8, but quite often it doesn't.

    4. If only a single note is higher or lower than the current FHP, FHP is automatically changed.

In reality, we simple extend our index or pinky out of the FHP, for an instant for such single notes.

Manually entered FHP are overwritten by the automated process.

I would prefer the automated process to ask if it should erase manually FHP.

    Or even keep them.

As I said before, the only way to prevent the automated process to delete manual FHP

is to define ghost notes with a fingering of 1.

It would be preferable to extent this to all fingers.

Meaning if for a pull down from 10 to 8, I set Fret 10 to Finger 3,

FHP should automatically set FHP starting on 8.

Improving some aspects of the automated process of FHP maybe complex, (point 4.)

I hope I have pointed out some major flaws,

to trigger a step by step improvement on points 1-3

  8. Yes, ghost notes are imported correctly, as ghost notes.

It's up to the charter to decide if he toggles off the ghost notes in EOF to make them appear in RS14.

I got confused with "Tied Notes", because they look the same in GPro, except they have a tie to their previous note.

  9. Here is how ghost notes are now imported (musically) correct in Patrolman :

    http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/2f30/m9q2hsfatnkannvzg.jpg

the (17) are different from the previous note, they must be played, and should be imported.

they need to toggle off ghost status

    (14)

    (16) are not different from the previous note, they only sustain it.

@@PC Plum For readability, I also prefer to shorten sustains (musically incorrect) to avoid them covering the next notes.

Oh, I get it now, sorry, it depends if the (ghost) note is a tied note.

    http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/ed15/wyc27d70k64dew9zg.jpg

  10. I'd like to thank you for adding the shortcut shift+w to add catalog.

It looks like sometimes ghost notes are all imported now,

even those which are not played, being the sustain of the same previous note

(it works correctly in bar 41 of the lead track of the previously submitted Patrolman)

But in this tab it gets wrong:

    http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/0353/w5onunajdwhy9sdzg.jpg

    it should be :

  11. I recently tried this bass fix, but it didn't work.

Anyway I'm used to doing it manually,

adding fixed B tunings (+12 to the values) in the "Edit Arrangement",

and calling them B or Bbtuning Fix ( with +5, +6 values)

Then I enter the 220HZ tuning pitch. So far, so good.

But every time I edit the arrangement, i.e to change the tone,

the toning pitch sets back to 440hz, which is quite annoying, and can be overlooked.

Is it possible to correct this, and keep/save the 220hz value?

I'm also wondering if those low tunings for RS2014 should have the +12 already set,

as without the fix, they seem useless to me.

    I didn't meet other tunings with +6 or +7 above E-tuning

so they should switch automatically to 220hz.

Which then would make the Low bass tuning patch irrelevant.

  12. I'm using all sorts of software since 25 years, and when I find an excellent piece, I recognize it.

This is a remarkable tool, considering a version 0.6, pretty logic to setup,

not the frustrating experiences I had with other capture software.

I used FRAPS, which can't record several sources (game and cam) simultaneously.

FRAPS could not record and compress 1920*1080 without drops,

I use Xmedia Recode (free opensource) to compress the video.

OpenBroadcaster records 1920*1080 without drops with an adjustable bitrate of 3000kb/s

on my 8gb ram I7 CPU with realtek sound chip.

I play RS on a 2nd screen via hdmi in a 1600*900 resolution window,

and digital out audio, and the OBC preview stream can be displayed on the laptop screen.

I keep audio exclusivity on and audioengine to 1.

RS only seems to need exclusivity on the RSCable audio recording, not on the sound output.

Window border can be unchecked In the OBC setting,

Video sources are not limited to 2, they can be resized, translucent, ...

I checked Bandicam, and it has one major flaw for RS Users:

    It cannot

    - record a full screen cam, (max 1/2 size)

    - recorded the cam with a transparency factor

I´m recording this way to check and try to correct my finger technique,

and to play the tracks outside of RS with the great tones of Amplitube.

I got OBC running in 10min, my only problem was I did not think of RS as a game

and selected video capture instead of game capture device.

    I always support opensource. B)

  13. Well, Firekorn, it happened to me that I defined manual FHP, which is really a time consumimg pain, and then sometime later, doing an update I forgot about it, and let the automated process loose. Manual should always override and not be erased by automated FHP.

FHP 1 defined in a Ghostnote gives me that insurance.

  14. I've got the same problem, but I could only find the early version of 2.6.0.0, with DD 2.2 instead of 2.6 among other missing corrections.

When I check not to load beta releases in the config, it doesn't update anything,

When I uncheck the latest update, the update nevertheless loads the last buggy version of 2.6.1.0-c37d42bd

I post a link to version 2.6.1.0-2911121c, not including the updates since 28/2.

  15. Also, you CAN enter fingering info on single notes, but not for showing anything ingame.  It's used when auto-generating hand positions.  Anything with a fingering of 1 tells the fret hand position generator to anchor down on that fret.

That's a nice precision, because then you don't have to worry to get the manually entered FHP erased by auto-generated FHP.

Would it be possible to make this work with other fingerings, i.e.if I want a note played by the 3 finger, because of an upcoming pull off, I could just mark the fingering 3.

To make it work now, I have to define a ghostnote 2 frets lower before, and mark it as fingering 1

  16. I once made a list of all shortcuts in EOF, which comes in handy now. :)

I'm still in favour of "A" to add catalog, after selecting a note.

    and "D" to delete catalog

A is assigned to anchor, but only in the procedure when a beat is selected, not a note,

If a note is selected, "A" does nothing, so it should be usable in this procedure.

( I was wrong, didn't see a beat is always selected sometimes out of screen)

    Q = show catalog

    W/E=next/previous catalog

This configuration would set all keys for Catalog together, with a simple key, no combination.

As I've shown in a thread I'm using catalog to define phrase, finding identicals or partial identicals with F3/shift F3

    I don't use the "rename" catalog, but name the phrases C1, C2 ... for catalog n°1, n°2

Then I gather similar patterns of phrases i.e. C1-C3-C5 into a section.

This way, structuring a track with perfectly working DD becomes child's play, even without listening to the track.

Some simple pop songs have 8 catalog/phrases entries.

but others can have 20 and more (and I hate chain-work ;))

Since EOF imports sliding grace notes as slides leading into the note, should it just mark the grace note with linknext then?
Yes, must be a nextlink, in case of a slide, I've never seen a 2nd pick, because logically a grace note belongs to his principle note.

Such a slide is in EJ-Manhattan Tab (Guitar1) at bar 10

No slide in GP should logically be imported as Hammer on/ Pull off

    EJ-Manhattan Tab bar 26,27,39, 40 ...

    Quote

Ghost notes mean entirely different things than with Rocksmith/Rock Band authoring.

Agreed, and Ghost notes sustaining a same previous notes must not be imported, as this tends to make the tabs less readable.

    EJ-Manhattan Tab bar 39, 87 (6)

Ghost notes different in pitch from a previous note are played slightly touched, almost as a muted noted, they are interesting to import.

In The Patrolman Tab (lead) bar 41 (17) they are audible, but well hidden among many sustained ghost notes.

    Quote

Do official charts usually prefer leaving the string unused or do they usually author them as muted strings? I'd rather stick with the official method as a default, but I can always add a function to remove string muted notes in chords if people would find that useful.

A charter raised my attention, and I was really surprised, how badly RS14 recognized some 3 finger chords with a muted string in-between. In the official Eric Johnson - Cliff of Dover, a chord has no green muted string.

    http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/61ec/3i0nx30190bxk9uzg.jpg

In Eric Johnson Manhattan cdlc, the Tab starts with a muted string in chords. Never can I get the 6x8 detected.

    http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/e115/0vdb9gn91fv29b7zg.jpg

Strums are not exotic, I get them regularly. The duration to play them is defined in GP.

if played really slow, I define a Chord Fret Handposition and split up a chord in individual notes, if they are not split in GP.

They may appear like this : The 3 ways in GP sound more or less the same.
