  1. I haven't been able to find a way to loop within a bar at this point,  at least compared to Rocksmith it's at a bar level instead of huge sections or poorly aligned sections for many custom DLCs.   using the keyboard it does let you step through note by note too rather then restart the loop

One thing I found helpful was under the view menu, turning off the "Catch Playhead" feature.. it's annoying when doing loops as it scrolls up the screen unnecessarily.

Overall, I think I'm sold - will give some additional time this weekend and buy it.   it's been stable, quick, smooth accurate so very happy using it as a tool to quickly learn tabs or practice some riffs or solos so it fully replaces my needs for Rocksmith.

One thing I haven't figured out yet is how to get an Ultimate Guitar Official Tab loaded into it; it seems I can't extract it as a Guitar Pro file... hmmm...  am I missing something?

  2. Had a few to play with it and it will take a bit of getting use to like any software.. but my 1-hour impression is that I'll be putting Rocksmith away and moving to TL Jam.  I don't do much editing these days (zero time) and primarily have been using Rocksmith to quickly learn so chords, riffs or work on a solo then take my learnings and play with friends or others in a live setting.   I no longer need Rocksmith for any kind of learning tool.  So in my case, TL Jam gives me everything I need in a much improved UI and experience that lets me get right into loading up a tab or RS DLC and start playing... it's also wonderful that I can just grab  a tab and load it too and use the 2D tab or 3D views.

It's also been quite stable, my ASIO drivers of Presonus Studio interface works great at at 0.7ms delay which is excellent,  I also got it to work quickly with Helix Native as the plugin and now I can use all my Helix patches and presets to step through... pretty cool.

I'll still give a few more hours of trial to make sure all is good, and then if it is I'm going to purchase it.

  3. Cataclysmm, thanks for sharing!!!

I downloaded and configured, took a look around the app and looks VERY promising!   I can't play right now, but will give it a shot later today and this weekend.

Off the bat, it resolves my biggest complaints with Rocksmith - very slow to start, bad video system with nvidia cards, difficult to navigate, unfriendly switching between rhythm/lead, in ability to make edits to mistakes in songs,  looping can be terrible on some tracks because the creator didn't bother to add sections.  works natively with external audio devices.  allows low-latency and higher quality audio input/output. ability to see a 2D tab-style view.  All of these are non-issues in TonLib Jam. and during my beta of Rocksmith+ Ubisoft actually made all the bad things about Rocksmith 10x worse.

Really cool feature, you can run VST Plugins such as Helix Native to build your own patches.

This might be a deafening answer for this community to move forward and break free from Rocksmith.  I will share some more when I get to playing with it;  but based on 10 min clicking around the app I'm 99% ready to cut Rocksmith loose.

  4. Can you guys look into hosting the customs?  there are so many dead links, crappy download services that install viruses. It would be so much nicer if they were all on a single source and we didn't have to worry about them vanishing.  it's only a couple gigs of files so cost shouldn't be much at all, like $60/year in data.

I'd donate some support money for a feature like this.

  5. I've found that song Pack doesn't work for the new cache.psarc. it corrupts the file and crashes the game. I've verified filed integrity and pulled down again from steam, but each time I run it the same thing happens.

It's damaging something to do with the new feature to use a mic instead of the cable. you can instantly tell as soon as you get into the game the icon of which path you are using is incorrect, it's missing the sub-icon for cable/mic.  and if you hit CTRL to change paths the game instantly crashes.

Let me know if you need anything to help troublshoot or logs...  CFSM doesn't report any errors when run on the cache.psarc.

  6. Still getting the exception error on the RS1 DLC song pack if I try to disable any songs... when I save there is an exception error (below) and then the app is frozen indefinitely, have to force crash out. the other two packs of RS1 disc & RS2014 work fine.  Have had this issue on all versions since RS2014 remastered was issued.

It starts to write the new rs1compatibilitydlc_p.psarc, but the error occurs leaving the file with 0 bytes and corrupt.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

  7. the more I use Rocksmith, the more I think going the game route was a bad idea. I think the next version should focus on being more of a professional training tool and less game. They should develop a CDLC studio where you can write your own songs or import tabs and compete with applications like Guitar Pro 6, Garage band, etc... but still keep it focused for now around "Rock" but expand to drum (digital) and keyboard to complete  a standard set of instruments.  I've found I only use Rocksmith as a way to learn a new song as it's 10x easier and faster than reading music and tabs (at least based on my stage of learning) but once I have the basics down for that song I need to take it offline and start practicing from memory and learning the transitions.

I wouldn't mind if this is the last version of Rocksmith as a game - and they move on, I'd be willing to pay a substantial amount more for a real learning tool, still crank out CDLC, still have a session like mode, bake in the above I mentioned and then expand the education to teach you about music theory, scales, patterns, alternate chords, etc...  it cost me thousands a year to send my daughter for lessons, I'd be willing to buy training/lesson modules or if they would integrate with say a site like JamPlay and do a subscription model they would end up making more than selling... e.g. $9.99/mo gets you 2 lessons, 3 CDLC per month... or you can buy, $29.99/mo gets you all-access.

  8. All together, almost 2 years of playing and I collected 6 guitars, 1 bass, 3 amps. My biggest mistake was with amps, I think I cycled through 10 amps before settling on my primary.... That was some costly bad moves. But I never mad a mistake on guitars, really like each one.

    Here is my current gear:
Gibson 120th anniversary Les Paul Studio Pro in Fireburst Candy
Fender American Deluxe HSS Strat in Blackout

    Ibanez S670 in Flame Red

Takamine P4DC Acoustic in Matte Natural
Taylor GS Mini Acoustic in Quilted Sapele

Fender Squire Strat My $99 first guitar!
Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass in Sunburst
Mesa Boogie Express 5:25+ in Cream & Black (primary Amp)
    VHT Special 6 (practice/travel amp)

A few other small practice amps

  9.

Did you know you can set the dynamic to "robot" (or something like that)? The feature of a "perfect" drummer who does never change the pace is already there!

No, I hadn't see that setting, I'll have to check that out, thx.

on your recording point, would like to see that as well, add in a studio mixing type thing where you could lay down (robot) drum line, then play & record bass, go back and lay rhythm, then a screaming solo...

I also think they should partner up with some major hardware companies like Avid, Presonus, Apogee, etc.. and open up the interface instead of requiring just a realtone cable.  I get their concern of being wide open and the support nightmare, but they could easily open up to certain "certified" products so those that have and want to use good gear... can.

  10. I never got into session mode, I liked the concept but not the way they implemented it. Rather then it laying down a backing track and stick with that, it's more freee-flowy, it stops & starts, changes pace.. I get the dynamic aspect, but dynamic is exactly what a guitarist DOES'T want... we rely on a solid bass/drum line to be laid down.   I'd like the to focus more on the backing tracks concept, and use the AI to add drum fills, keyboard solo's, beat change-ups and such.

Another item;  I'd really love if they could find a way to either noise cancel out or minimize the guitar/bass in the original song, or develop some backing tracks that don't have the part you are playing. it would be nice to have more of a role in the overall sound. Rather then just take a raw MP3, I wish they would get the studio tracks and separate out each recording track so that we can be one of the tracks vs. just playing along with an existing song. I'd be surprised if the artist wouldn't support access to the original records.

  11. Curious if anyone heard anything on the next version of the game? I had heard way back that they were not planning on doing regular releases and gave the impression it could be years before we see the next game.  Anything new?

Curious what others would look for in the new game? I personally would love to see the following in a new version of the game

    1. Introduce Keyboards - the more I learn about music, the more I find keyboards are spread throughout every song. and keyboards by default have a digital midi/USB connection and would easily be able to be incorporated into the existing game.
    2. I'd like them to actually have an entire section dedicated to learning music theory and doing real musical education. I think they nailed teaching you the mechanics/technicals... but fall really short on any music education... In order to really learn guitar at some point you have to start learning the theory and the names of the notes. without this you can never really expand beyond playing the game by yourself in the basement, the musical world all speaks in terms of Key's, Notes, progressions, etc.. and Rocksmith isn't friendly to that speak.
    3. With the above, you should be able to switch to having the ability to play with notes instead of finger positions, e.g. G, D, G, C similar to chords, but show me the actual note name coming down the highway
    4. Riff Repeater needs to be improved, It  should let you set the loop points A & B and they should be settable note to note and not sections, it should be easier to pause & continue, and slow down and speed up. I still think it's 10 fold better than original, but it has a lot of room for improvement. and they absolutely still have the keys backwards on the keyboard. left goes right, right goes left... makes no sense how they arranged the keys when doing riff repeater.
    5. Lastly, I think a huge addition would be to incorporate music composition and creation and build out some songs myself, or have a suite of tools to easily make tabs in the game by maybe laying a drum track, playing some chords (which it can recognize) and then going back through and adding a solo, or additional fill tracks and stuff.. it should be able to do it all by simply recording what I play and turning that into a new CDLC, it would need some way to edit or fix notes.

Just some thoughts - would really love to see them take it to the next level.

  12. The best place to get tabs is a local music store. Do you have a Music & Arts by you?  they are connected into the Hal Leonard database and for 99cents to 3.99 depending on the artist/song/and version they can print you out the officially licensed tab. I discovered this a few months ago... and I can tell you these are the real-deal tabs, no BS and it's amazing how different they are from interweb-tabs..   I've purchased about 15 tabs over last 2 months and everyone is dead on to even the little harmonics and notes/accents that you don't really even notice in the song. they are worth every penny.

  13. A few things I noticed, but overall it looks really cool. I use Chrome OS

    1. The theme of dark doesn't work.
    2. When changing themes it resorts your results back to default
    3. After choosing Dark theme, the theme settings drop down is odd, has scroll bars in it
    4. the settings for # per page are horizontal instead of a drop down list
    5.  Dynamic difficulty drop down under settings has scroll bars
    6. Preferred part has scroll bar flashes as it opens but they disappear
    7. Preferred platform has scroll bars too
    8. ---- I think the drop down logic needs some refinement, all of them under settings do odd things. my expectation would be normal drop downs, that are all 1 item per row/line and no need for scroll bars if less than 10 items in a drop down and all text should be left-justified
    9. Under filters, the DD, says Hide DD- took me a min to figure that out, it may just be me, but it would probably be better just having a yes/no choice. not a big deal
    10. for Part, (in filters) - what is "Lead or Rhythm?  should this maybe be a combo box that you can select more than one... e.g. show me songs with Bass & Lead?
    11. Tuning under filters has unnecessary horizontal scroll bar

All super-minor stuff with the UI. overall it's really cool and I like the collections feature and the help is neat the way you did that.  nice work guys.

  14. Love the tool, two minor suggestion for next update or whenever, if it doesn't find a file, could you make it skip that file instead of hanging...  for example, I just want to convert one file in a folder, but it's looking for songs.psarc and won't convert the file... could you also make it so you can freely choose any output folder rather than locking it to My Documents.

  15. Cabalist, on the second request never-mind, I realize that the conversion process isn't setting a stylesheet (I thought it was)  that the stylesheet is controlled in GP6 application preferences where I can change the default when opening new files... so there's nothing to do.  In my case I have a particular stylesheet I use that lets me cram more measures on a single page rather then the default that has a lot of white space.   Awesome tool, thanks again!
