  1.

Are you trying to start a fight?

And while I'm at it, both version mostly use for A5 the open A chord but, from my point of view, E string fifth fret would make more sense...

I know I can play what I want but shouldn't the song try to chart correctly/efficiently ?

I've seen quite a few songs where the charts are far from optimal and just transpose them in my mind when I can...

I am genuinely interested, as a beginner guitar player, about the topic.

Are there real differences about the places you play (unless your guitar is poorly set up and the open strings are the only notes in tune) ?

Sustain depends on the vibrating length, but are there other factors ?

For example, on 2'23, in Black Sabbath - N.I.B. Guitar Lesson, he states that E5 sounds darker played on E12th fret than on A 7th fret. It's true for his guitar because the neck pickup location has less high harmonics on the 12th fret than on the 7th (I guess) but if he played on a strat or a 24 frets, I don't think his statement would still be true, would it ?

In the end, regarding how to play a song, are the only factors to take into account hard constraints, like slide from one note to the other on the same string and everything else is based on personal preference and convenience ? The same topics arise with "Sex on fire" where one of the bass chart was easier to play despite the notes being the same.

If it is the case, I should invest times now to know my fret board and try to play parts in different locations... It's just I had the impression it was more an advanced topic.

  2. The link for So What only contains lead and bass, no rhythm.

I downloaded some times ago another version with 3 tracks but it's not available anymore...

Are you sure about the link ?

  3. what was the issue with the first version of Sex on Fire? I have played both now and while the first one wasn't particularly great the 2nd version seems to be way off :(

For Lead and Bass, except some minor string differences (for example: playing 11 on A in the first version instead of 16 on E on the second), the parts are almost identical.

In the Rhythm section, on the other hand, the first version is really simplified (and if the first one was a 4, the second one should at least be a 5).

Having someone having the actual score or knowing the song well should be interesting to get to the bottom of it.

On a personal note, for bass and lead, I do prefer the more "compact" first version, more strings, less frets... but anyway, the notes are the same and I don't have the level yet to appreciate the difference in tone/sustain/etc.  of playing the same note at different locations.

Edit: Playing on the same string allows slides that are not in version 1. I watched a live performance and the rhythmic part is definitely more accurate in the second one but for the bass, I wasn't able to see him goes up to the 16th but he slides a lot. Maybe we need a third version ;)

  4. Some bass for this encore:

And almost the same % in master mode:

I tried again the rhythm guitar for Louie Louie, but despite the fact I know the structure of the song (master mode bass), I cannot get more than 95% with the guitar. I don't get the strumming pattern and if I try to strum more than necessary, it doesn't get all the notes and I have stamina issue :(

  5. Gave up on this one in the middle... can somebody tell me how to play this part? I can stretch fingers from 10th fret to 13th easily, 14th is very hard and 15th seems impossible unless I bend over backwards and put guitar almost vertically straight

Have you tried to use 1 & 2 instead of 1 & 3 for the first chord ?

This way, the pinky stretch should be easier...
