  1. I'm gonna sound old and out of touch ... but what is this Spotify you speak of? --EDIT-- Google is my friend. I guess I hadn't heard of this since I've been living in piracy-central SE Asia for close to 10 years now...
  2. First tries on all: Beg Bass- Int Bass- Had a hell of time getting that bend to register, so about halfway through I started treating it as a HOPO from 3 to 4 (cheating). At least that would register... Adv Bass- Yay for E Standard! :) MC Bass- Not great detection here also. I need to tune into Drop C and let my bass settle out a bit and try again. Good mix of songs this week -- all fun, and all different tunings! I think I'll focus on MC (tune my 4 down for the whole week or possibly see how easily it would transcribe into B standard on my 5) and leave my 5 in BEADG to play Metallica.
  3. That section close to the end with the little accents up on the G string was a rough spot for me at first too, but some practice helped me out a lot there. Now my biggest issue is that it is very tough for me to get into the groove right at the beginning of the song, especially starting cold. I need to play the intro 3-4 times with quick "restart song" selections a few bars in before my finger-brains activate or something.
  4. Whoa, I thought that the Telephone song was the Beginner song for Lead. Oops. INXS is much more my speed -- instead of my playing sounding terrible, that was merely not good! Progress!
  5. @@Rodman and others -- Thanks for encouraging me to pick up the ol' guitar again! Here's the best I could muster: Trust me when I say that was the $hittiest sounding 81% ever... But, pretty fun. I might have to do that again sometimes, but I'm definitely going to primarily stick to bass where I can actually sorta feel like I know what I'm doing. :D I couldn't keep the game from leveling me down if I played it straight in LAS, and no way I could get through the song without 3 strikes in SA, so the above was in Riff Repeater with the whole song selected but with the speed and difficulty both set to 100%. Kept it from leveling down anyway, and I'm not too fussed if that doesn't count as a valid entry -- was just done for fun. Next time I'll make sure to get Kaijin's NDD version for a song I want to try on guitar so I can do it right. Not usually a big issue for me on bass because I very rarely wipe out so bad that it decides to level me down!
  6. Oh, and to all: I blew the dust off of my Epiphone Korina Explorer 6-string (actually it was fine in its hardcase) and tried the Telephone song in the lead path. I got 92% accuracy .... ... at 40% playback speed in RR. When I get off work today I'll see what that translates into at 100%. It won't be pretty, but it is kinda fun to try to get back into the guitar after being 99.99% bass for so long. :)
  7. @@lolreconlol -- Welcome to the fun! Yep, whenever you beat your score (actually the *accuracy* number shown at the end of playing the song is really the most important part, but then if there is a tie for accuracy longest streak and Score Attack score are used for tiebreaking) just post a new screenshot. And don't worry about posting too many screenshots or anything (well, within reason anyway) -- we often like to post a screenshot from the very first time we play a song and then update through the week to show how we're progressing. But that isn't a rule or anything -- even if you post only 1 screenshot of your best run at the end of the week it will still count. Although I think a good part of the fun is gabbing and bragging (and complementing others too) along the way during the week.
  8. I should try my guitar on the beginner song, but I'm really rusty and was never much good to begin with! Anything beyond a power chord might make my brain go into meltdown...
  9. Had to tune down to D Standard again and go for the clean sweep: Woooo! I think that's the first time I've ever managed a 100% on all 4 (or 3) songs in a week. The rock gods are smiling on me! :D
  10. I'm on a roll -- tried Adv Bass again: That middle section with the slides up and down still feels weird to me, but easy enough to hit as long as I follow the on-screen chart instead of what my ear is telling me I should do.
  11. Much more smooth this time: But I've got my work cut out for me to give @@then3verend a run for his money on score -- I think you must have been "in the pocket" as the saying goes, dude! B) And I agree @@NoonyDeloony, very fun song. Looking forward to seeing you join the 100% club this week too!
  12. Busy week, but I hit my goal on MC Bass: Pretty shaky in parts even though it was a legit 100% (I hit all the notes, but my timing could definitely be better and I had a few extraneous notes in a part or two). So as a stretch goal, I might try to improve on my score here.
  13. It's on the A string, 2 quarter notes followed by 1 half note (or at least sustained a bit more) that slides between 5th and 7th frets and back I think. I must be a bit off in my understanding of the rhythm in that section, because it feels a bit clunky and out of sync there. BUT, I usually play that part just fine (or at least within Rocksmith's tolerance level), so it was unfortunate that I screwed up there of all places... :) --EDIT-- For reference, it was the part at 1:36 into Noony's video above. Slides from 5 to 7 and back on E and A.
  14. Took a break from Ska-P and played the Telephone song again: Nailed the parts I thought were hard originally (all the 4th to 7th fret jumps), and then had a minor wipeout on the easy slides between triplets in the middle. D'oh! After playing again, I'd definitely revise my difficulty rating on this one down a bit. Say, 6 or so. High-end Int, in my opinion -- and Ska-P is definitely a bit tougher, as I was thinking things might pan out.
  15. And another small upgrade on the next try: That was 100% except for getting finger-tied for a few (2-3?) notes in 1 section in the middle. I can taste it!
  16. @@then3verend - Working hard to match your 100% on MC Bass (nice work!): I think I've got a 100%er in me!
  17. Welcome aboard! I like your handle and avatar -- did you have family that worked on or flew them, or just a fan? My grandfather loaded ammo, bombs, and HVARs onto P-47s, and his squadron worked with another one that flew the P-38s. Beautiful airplane!
  18. First tries (basically) on all the songs: Beg Bass: Need You Tonight - INXS Downloaded this one a while back and had 2 plays on it already. So I went straight to SA, got this for a submittable score. Good fit for beginner. Frethand stays pretty close to fixed at one location, predictable pattern of notes -- good for true beginners. Still harder than Black Magic though. :) Difficulty: 2 Int Bass: Sky is Mine - Amorphis Nice song, and D standard actually behaved quite well for me this time. Should have had the 100%, but I was trying to transcribe some of the open notes to 5th frets down a string on the fly and brain farted in a couple sections. At least for my playing style, I think it would be easier/cleaner to play with a lot of those rapid-fire open notes transcribed down a string so they can be muted a bit more readily at the transitions. But I think I can do that mentally on the fly with a slight bit more practice. Nice manageable step up in difficulty from the other song and again perfect for Intermediate I think. Slight bit more shifting and a bit more speed = good, relatively easy intermediate song. Difficulty: 4 Adv Bass: Ca (C'est Vraiment Toi) - Telephone I found the vocals pretty annoying, but the bass part was really growing on me and getting to be a lot of fun by the end. I was struggling quite a bit to sight-read it at full speed at first, but got better as the song went along. Probably going to have to try a few more times; maybe the vocals will grow on me also. Lot of quick shifting and string skipping that has to be quick and precise, so gotta be pretty familiar with your fretboard spacing. Not TOO fast tempo wise, but quick enough. Felt like a decent fit but tough Advanced song to me, but with a few more plays it might feel easier. Difficulty: 8 (but I reserve the right to back off on / adjust that later) MC Bass: Tio Sam - Ska-P Como Me Pongo last week grabbed me straight away better than this song also by Ska-P, but this ain't bad either. Was easier for me to get going up to decent accuracy in this than the Advanced song, but I think this one will possibly remain a bit tougher after practice while the Telephone song feels like it might get significantly easier in just a few more plays. Difficulty felt pretty comparable to the Advanced song, for a lot of the same reasons. But I will probably have more complete thoughts on both of these songs after a few more plays each. Difficulty: 8 (again just a first impression, will probably adjust)
  19. I'm late in posting my difficulty thoughts on bass: Creeping Death - Metallica: Beg Bass Probably the easiest of the songs this week in bass terms, but I wouldn't peg it as "beginner" friendly. Fast and not entirely static frethand, plus a few easy techniques. Difficulty: 5 Como Me Pongo - Ska-P: Int Bass Great selection for the championship -- had never heard it before and had loads of fun working on it all week! Fairly rapid, jumps all over the place with fast and precise frethand shifting required. Distributes notes to 3 strings, with some fun slides thrown in. In @'s version (which is definitely more accurate), there is a noticeable amount of improvisation in the recording that you have to keep up with instead of just repeating the same theme verbatim. That makes his version more fun but a bit more difficult also. Difficulty: 7 (frippchen's version) or 6 (other one) Pretty Fly for a White Guy - Offspring: Adv Bass Similar challenges (and difficulty) to Como Me Pongo -- pretty quick, good amount of fast shifting required, skips around the strings. To me, equal in difficulty to the Ska-P song, or maybe a shade tougher. Difficulty: 7 Jack-Ass Brigade - Fishbone: MC Bass Take this with a grain of salt since I only played the song once (not my cup of tea). From that single playthrough, it felt tougher than the Int or Adv songs this week, but not so hard as the past few MC songs. I'd peg it at tough Advanced to easy MC, but I wouldn't put my stock into that opinion... Difficulty: 8-9 (maybe)
  20. I've been playing guitar and then bass (now about 99% bass) for coming up on about 20 years. I don't think I'll ever play in a "band" or in front of an audience, but I'm happy just playing for my own enjoyment and the best thing about Rocksmith for me is concrete evidence of my skills improving much faster than they did pre-Rocksmith. That being said, I originally never thought that I'd play in front of *people*, period ... but now I take my bass, PC, and Rocksmith to the high school where I teach in Thailand and play songs for the kids while letting them sing along to the English lyrics (...it's educational!). That is quite fun, so who knows ... maybe in another 10 years I'll be playing gigs or filling in if a local band is missing their bassist or something. :)
  21. Took me WAY too long to nail it, but finally did: I've been plagued by bad detection on the 4th fret of D string -- I was hitting that note but having it fail to register about half of the time. Checked tuning, perfect D at open. Checked intonation, perfect D at 12th fret or 12th fret harmonic. Then after pulling my hair out several times when I was SURE I hit the note, I tried checking the tuning at that specific fret ... 15 cents flat (?!). Not sure what could cause that weird of a shift in the middle of the fretboard. Shifting sharp might indicate that I'm fretting too hard, but flat when root and octave on the same string are in tune is just weird. Anyway, I tuned the string about 10 cents flat to compensate and got the 100% on the 2nd try after that. I think I need to fix my grounding line noise issue in my Thunderbird Pro 5 and start playing it full time.
  22. If a song has NDD and DD versions both available, I always choose the NDD... But if only DD is available, I usually don't worry about removing it. With my Rocksmith settings, I don't think the game ever levels down a section if I play it poorly, so I just have to remember to crank everything up to 100% the first time I load up the song. And with DD there is the slight advantage of seeing the green color of each section to confirm that I didn't miss any notes there when playing in SA. However, if you want to post NDD variants of all the songs at the beginning of the week, that would probably save the other folks like me that tend to avoid DD when possible a step! Don't go to too much trouble though, I can always do the DD Remover option in the toolkit myself if necessary.
  23. Another try... I *will* get at least one 100% Score Attack score on v1.1. I can feel it! This one was 3 misses I think, 2 of which I think I got robbed on. But I'll make it happen!
  24. I ran your v1.1 through the DD remover, and the sections all looked good to me, so maybe that is a good solution to get the new version with proper sections. Here's my first try on v1.1: Sounds and feels great to me, but I should play through slowed down a bit in RR and listen carefully once or twice to confirm. --EDIT-- At 100% speed, the song is tough but doable, but it is amazing how much easier it gets for me if I slow it down just to 95% speed or so in Riff Repeater... And at that speed I feel confident in confirming the sync and charting in frippchen's v1.1 -- seems spot on to me, thanks much for the new version and update @!
  25. Oops, forgot to post my screenshot (played with frippchen's 1st version): (don't count this as a leaderboard entry, just for fun until frippchen completes his revisions) Pretty shaky, I wouldn't have had a great score if it had been in Score Attack, but I did manage the 100%. Should be easier with re-sync.
