  1. I have a newb question.  What is the advantage of having the 5th string?  Do people mostly use it for downtuning or chords?

lower tunings are possible as your already starting with b so easier to tune without spaghetti strings.

  2. I'm not hugely experienced with different basses but I am loving my schecter diamond 5 string, its a heavy beast but the tone is excellent and the neck just feels right, it plays well with rocksmith and I'm starting to tab out 5 dtring tracks for RS to get the best use of it.

My 4 string experience has seen a fender p-bass and an ibanez sr500, the pbass went a while back in favour of the ibanez which plays brilliantly and is really light compared to the fender, with a slim neck and profile, if the worst happened and I had to replace them I would definately but the same again

  3. Hey. I'm wondering what to do for 5-string/6-string bass charts. Nobody got back to me on that. I already have a few complete and will be doing a lot more probably.

Is it possible to add a feature to the database for that, if that is too much to ask how do you think I should make it clear it is for a 5-string?

I was thinking maybe in parenthesis after the artist.  i.e.  Haken (5-String). Since the artist is the first thing one should see in the database.

I've done a 5 string chart and just put it in the description in large red letters that a 5 string is required.

  4. Yeah about that cover, it's a genesis original song not a disturbed one

A lot of bass part don't use all the strings but that doesn't really matter.

I've got another two in flames tab with 5 strings bass that i will do during the week.

I've started to try out some bass tones and got a couple saved that sound quite good but cant find the bloody folder outside of the game to upload them

  5.

I can upload the test file i did if you wish, it's not correctly synced and the tone is awful but it shows that 5 strings can be used.

Thanks, I saw your video. Are there any charted 5-string bass songs available that are charted like yours above that I can try out just to see how bad I will fail :( ?

not sure if anybody else is trying to actually tab out five strings onto guitar tracks just yet other that myself and firekorn, hopefully as the knowledge gets passed around more people will try it, and as for sucking the track i done kicks my ass, I would do a vid but not until i get a bit better at it lol

probably because i don't actually know the song and that tapping section totally threw me.

I just grabbed the first 5 string tab file I found on songster and quickly knocked it up in EoF. next one will be better......promise.

this is a quick test track i did to try out the theory for a five string bass. It's not synced and just grabbed a random tone for it.

to play it  you must use a five string bass. look in the guitar track for the bonus lead track and when tuning fret the first string around the 8th or 9th fret with a little pressure to get the tuner to pass.

Picked a bad track really as it requires some tapping techniques at one point, or incredibly fast fretting hands.

  7. I still see a problem though. 5-string songs, versus every other 4-string song in existence is going to be read differently. I have a feeling this could be sorta tricky to adapt to, going back and forth. Now I want every song to be re-written in different colors.

i dont understand where you see the problem.... think of it as playing a guitar track but you'll never have to hit the high e string.

Everything looks just the same as playing a guitar track, except the 5 string (or possibly six string) will be charted as a bonus guitar track.

the only difficulty (not thats it difficult) is the tuning page where you need to play a few frets up the g string to trick RS into believing there are six strings.

  8. Okay I've managed to do a 5 string bass custom using this format.

found a 5 string gp3 file and inported it into eof as a guitar track (it did actually show in eof as 5 strings) produced the custom as normal and the the sound file.

open it in rs toolkit and pretty much generated it as normal with the exception of changing the tuning pitch as above.

one thing that confused me was the tuning box came up showing 6 strings tune beadge (i think) i just clicked on this and generated the file (as a normal track as there were no other tracks to play)

loaded it up as normal and started the song.

took me through tuning as per normal with the exception of the g string which needed fretted at around the 7th fret not 5th dont know why.

played the song (badly) but the notes were recognised and played, however the 5 string seems very quiet in the game may need to mess around with it a bit in the tone, try a lot of compression or something.

    But it does work  :-P
