  1. Another week, another time for sightreads!

    20230312135405-1.jpg

Very nice song. One of the best new bands with an 80s sound. Bjorn ''speed'' strid from Soilwork on vocals and the bassist of Arch Enemy so very interesting to see their love for a different genre that they usually perform. My favorite album is probably Aeromantic (1) by them. Great album.

Never heard of this one, but that is no surprise them being Polish. An interesting song that is nice and easy to play.

I am not a big grunge fan so this song is not really for me. However some great solo work!

Love the main riff on this one. Out my skill level especially to make it sound as intended. Still, a lot of fun to play with a challenging solo.

  2. As always my sightreads for this week!

Cool band, cool tune. I only knew the song in the official RS list before this one.

    20230305133529-1.jpg

Not a Ska Fan but it had some cool riffs and some nice solo parts!

Far From my Favorite Accept Era/Song, my favs are the amazing Balls To The Walls and Restless and Wild albums. Although I think all the post-2010 stuff isn't far behind some great riffs and Wolf is one of the most criminally underrated players!

    20230305134811-1.jpg

Great to see God of Guitar is back. Love the addition! More songs equals more fun! Although this is way beyond my skill level!

I just saw the change so the AC/DC track will be played soon!

    Yes, ratings updated.

It is funny because I even lowered the score to an 8. After last week I lowered all scores by half a point (because Redefined was too high for people), so some of my scores might be a bit too low or too high. I guess difficulty is subjective because for me its definitely not a 9.

Fun easy song! Great album by blink.

    20230226134548-1.jpg

Not my best performance on a sightread but I enjoyed the song.

Awesome song, I need to check Amorphis out this was a great tune.

    20230226135255-1.jpg

And my favorite this week. A very underrated Danish Trash and technical metal band.  They deserve more recognition.

  5. Sightreads for this week:

    20230220135754-1.jpg

The latter part of the song is great. The first part is a bit dull, but black sabbath is always great!

    20230220140250-1.jpg

Good song to practice power chords. Nice to see a Finnish band here!

    20230220133809-1.jpg

    Nice riffs!

    20230220134731-1.jpg

Probably my favorite song on the album. Always fun to play, Iron Maiden never disappoints. Except the album cover art is one of the worst in history!

  6. Great job Avastreg & Kayteck! I will hopefully play the songs tomorrow.  I only have one complaint: we have another  Queens Of The Stone Age song right after last week where we had one as well. Not that I hate them, but so many other artists deserve a spotlight spot.

Also, I just updated all my ratings and lowered them all for lead by 0.5 points, I feel I rated them a bit too high. There are some exceptional players here who have less trouble with the difficulty of these songs so hopefully, the ratings are better suited for the masterclass players here!

    Nice and easy song!

    20230212135614-1.jpg

    Cool riff!

    20230212140320-1.jpg

One of my favorite Crue tunes. Also one of the easier ones to play.

    20230212140850-1.jpg

Nice breakdowns. I think I overestimated the difficulty on this one (I compared it to My own Grave which was also labeled an 8 ) more of my difficulties might be a little higher than they deserve to be. Oh well, still fun song to play.

  8. Sightreads for this week.

    20230208135427-1.jpg

Not my cup of tea, cool that they are Danish though!

    20230208141017-1.jpg

Not a big Rammstein fan but some cool riffs!

    20230208141726-1.jpg

My favourite this week, just love Gojira! From Mars to Sirius being my favourite album by them. Following closely by the way of all flesh.

    20230208140248-1.jpg

Great song aswell! Can't go wrong with Avenged Sevenfold. Some great guitar work and fun to play. That solo is a bit too much for me though!

I probably will keep it to sightreads due to lack of time and some injuries so I need to take it slow.

@ Zoutje wow that's a looot of submissions! Great job!!!

I got to 97, now I want the 99+ on this!!

    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Blind Guardian are distracting me from the Metallica mc song, but hey I can't resist

Thank you and a fantastic score! And I do understand that, that song kicks ass!

    20230201143259-1.jpg

A little improvement over my sightread. I just suck at the ending so I don't think with the time I have remaining this week I can do much better than this.

    20230201144146-1.jpg

Small improvement as well. I'm bad at the solo and some of the slides are a bit hit or miss.

  10. Last two days I spent a lot of hours adding suggestions from my personally collected CDLC to the spreadsheet. I went through my entire list of songs from Z to A. I  ended up adding nearly 100 hand-picked songs. I added mostly 80s stuff as that is by far my favorite time period, however, I also have included some newer songs. I rated both Lead and Rhythm but I haven't rated bass yet. I don't play bass so I find it difficult to judge, but I will try to fill in the bass difficulty as well.  If anyone disagrees with any of the bass difficulties of course feel free to adjust/add a note. I made sure all songs have DD enabled and that they all contain Lead, Rhythm, and of course bass as a path. This was quite an effort, but I want to contribute to this awesome community! Hope you enjoy it.

  11. My sightreads for this week.

    20230129134538_1.thumb.jpg.2d7f216841d8bf3ce19be9181b9ba771.jpg

Sorry for whoever chose this but I really hated this one. Just sounded to me like the generic music of these days that I can't stand. I might try to play it again to get 100% as it's not really difficult.

    20230129135531_1.thumb.jpg.9f838c5a341287f3aabc729cffb12f28.jpg

Fun song! Black keys usually aren't the most difficult songs but still fun to play!

    20230129140312-1.jpg

My favourite this week. Great song with a nice intro and some great all round guitar work.

    20230129140952-1.jpg

I'm not really into the modern Metallica, for me the two favorite albums are Kill'em all and Ride the Lightning. However, this was still quite fun to play! the slide sections were where I struggled the most.

Yes you need to put them here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HzgY90kLwyGqzJ-R64v8lmpeQMMhhxwGwUlenepIgms/edit#gid=6

Don't worry, evaluate the difficulty thinking at the hardest part of the song (i.e. if a song is only power chords but impossible solo, it gets 8 or more anyway)

The person who will do the selection will verify the songs and balance the score

A personal suggestion on how I do it: look at what accuracy you got when you play the song. Seeing that you are similar to me, like masterclass, (but with better sightreading), you can say: if I get 95-99% is intermediate, in the 90%-95% is advanced, from 80% to 90% is mc (7.5-8.5), under 70% is a 9 or 10. Ranges are indicative, just to get you the idea, YMMV

Really helpful comment, thanks so much friend! One more question. How would I rate the bass charts? I don't play bass so I have no idea how to rate them. Should I leave them for someone else who is willing to rate them?

  13. My first entries (sightreads) I probably keep it to sightreads this week due to lack of time.

    image.thumb.jpeg.4e8b97d526d66283a41a6ae2d3568b74.jpeg

    I suck at arpeggio's.

    image.thumb.jpeg.3d413dd23465679de1b3689b8fa3e87f.jpeg

Cool Marley tune with surprisingly good guitar work!

    image.thumb.jpeg.11121d089df2823011765b2469052636.jpeg

My least favourite one this week. Not really my kind of music but interesting and cool chords.

    image.thumb.jpeg.178e0e91694a82602f9b0a139749561f.jpeg

Not a big grunge fan but some cool solo stuff.

    image.thumb.jpeg.4344fd3fd453e1c34de7ab8e03b0231f.jpeg

Never heard of this band but really good song immediately reminded me of Mastodon.

    image.thumb.jpeg.a5bffc0aac2a6f74127b6b3c4ffc731e.jpeg

Probably my favourite song this week. 70s/80s is my favourite time period and while I am not really aware with the crosby still and nash/young catalogue this one kicks ass. Fantastic song!

Thanks, I'm happy you discovered such a gem like this competition! How did you find about that?
CDLC with dynamic difficulty off (those with 100%) are not excluded, you get the right accuracy. CDLC are verified by the week creator so you'll be fine.

And, don't worry to post multiple times, or to achieve whatever great scores. Just post it when you play a song, even if it is the first time and you played it poorly. If you want get the vibe, look at the past weeks and you'll understand.

Surely you will improve by participating! I understand how it feels a bit confusing when joining the first time because I've discovered the championship only in April 2022, but you will catch on right away.

I was randomly browsing through some CDLC and I saw a post from one of the users here that a song was picked in the weekly championship. That immediately peaked my interest and so I arrived here 🙂 And great to hear that all songs are verified so no issues there. And that is great because some weeks I might not have a whole lot of time to practice so I will just sightread and that might be it haha.

Oh welcome! I'm also on the official song spotlight on reddit (and I remember you!), but here you will find more songs, more people, and I can definitely say a lot of fun!
Rules are a bit complex at first sight, but my advice is to try to play and post scores for a couple of weeks and you'll get it! Look at accuracy, not absolute score (as in the spotlight), post the screenshot pasting the link. Both learn a song and score attack scores are valid (obviously on learn a song with difficulty 100%).

    Enjoy!!

Thanks so much friend. Always lovely to see you on reddit you have some great guitar-playing skills! Hopefully I get it down. Also does some CDLC not have issues where you get 100% automatically? Or are those songs excluded? I have a bunch of CDLC I think where that happens.

Yes, every week a new selection of songs for all classes. The new week usually starts on Saturday late in the evening.

Anyone can show screenshots of song scores from any class, but you can only win in class you compete in (we determine this based on skill).

That's it in short, detailed rules are in the link in the first post. 🙂

Thanks so much for your explanation. Let's see if I can find the time this week to join

  17. Somehow I only just found out about this weekly championship. Cool idea! I usually participate in the weekly official song one at reddit but never the CDLC ones. So is this the same as the reddit one, it runs for a week and then new songs get announced with scores posted? I also noticed there are multiple songs here for each difficulty, that is neat! Also from when until when does a week run?
