  1. I have downloaded some not so great customs and never said anything because they were playable. But the ones that cannot be played at all need to be removed.

We have an abandoned DLC policy, so its very possible for someone to still make DLC even though it's already been made. Very recently I prodded @@firekorn to make a new version of Pinball Map because the current one isn't the best quality. But I would never ask for it to be deleted.

One issue is that a DLC can fail in Rocksmith for a variety of reasons. A corrupt download, for example, is not the creators issue but the users. Md5 hashes can help alleviate this, for instance.

Star rating systems don't really do much to help the issue. Popular songs are likely to get higher "ratings", and there's the aforementioned issue of people trolling ratings. Not to mention the added database stress/processing, because you would have to either clear or keep track of the ratings for each version (so as an owner you also may not want to update your DLC for fear of losing your previous reviews).

I said this before at the MagFEST panel. We're a community. We aren't running a business, all DLC work is "free" (providing that you have the rights/purchased to the songs/supported the band that you're playing / bought rocksmith to support Ubisoft ), so we welcome content of all qualities. Removing someone else's work is a huge motivation killer, whereas providing constructive feedback shows that you care and helps motivate/improve the DLC.

The only time I would support such a thing is if the database started slowing down greatly due to the amount of songs, but I think scale won't be an issue for us.

I really admire what the Rocksmith Championship peeps are doing because it is subjective but organized, and detached from search/ignition.

Of course, I'm only one part of the Customsforge team and the others may have differing opinions.

  2.

    Hi,

First off I also would like to thank all the custom contributors. I know how much work it takes to get the tunes put together and posted on CF.

Took a look at the two top charters on your list, UNFAIR ! Not all Paths charted and not all platforms supported. I for one try to include all in on the fun.

    Later, avdocatwork

    P. S. I have only 39 Customs charted, and have to admit some parts are crappy, but I do keep a log and work to correct them. Plan on adding 5 more customs tomorrow. All Paths and all formats. Guess it makes 4 paths x 44 = 176 x 4 formats = 704 and just recently have been adding the option of with or without DD so x 2 = 1408 people happy with 1 download apiece, that are wanting an exact part of a tune available. Anyway I had always thought of this website being a sharing website, but now it seems like a competition, charting customs. I say leave the competition to the guys in the Rocksmith Championship section.

    Later, again

    avdocatwork

This was clearly just a statistical/quantitative  thing. So don't feel bad about it. I LOVE ALL CHARTS, EVEN IF DEY BROKE'D.

  3. HI Guys!

My computer is connected via S/PDIF to my LG micro stereo.

For some reason there's a noticeable delay from the moment I play until I hear it through the speakers.

Changing the latency settings helped a little, but caused static noises from the speakers.

Is there something I can improve with my configuration or drivers?

    Thanks!

Can you provide the technical specs of your computer?

  4. I was wondering if there is a megapack of cdlc, my internet connection is not the greatest, and it would be much easier to download everything that i would like via a torrent. Thanks for your help!

The biggest issue is that you are suppose to have purchased the music of all of the CDLC that you own. A megapack kind of kills that stipulation.

  5. Just my personal opinion, unless content is strictly against the rules (piracy, beating the legal horse to death, intentional/extreme personal attacks, etc), it should not be edited. Sure, your formatting is bad and you should feel bad, but that's the way you chose to communicate yourself. Whether or not something is irrelevant is pretty subjective, so I don't believe that mods/admins/devs should use rules that are highly subjective. I'm not the owner of the site however.

Just remember, people are less inclined to read a wall of text so keeping things condensed greatly helps in getting your point across.

Also, this poll is horrible. The options are one extreme or the other.

  6. I think it just comes down to human nature.  Some people want to put out as much cdlc as possible, as if there is some sort of glory to that, so they spend very little time perfecting it.  Others want quality.  I've got to a point where I only play my songs or the songs of creators that do good work, and a lot of my shit still needs to be revised.  I think since there is no incentive to do good, many people will do the minimum.  I agree with @@Byproduct, it sucks when you load up a song you've been looking forward to and it's unplayable.  Often tones are bad, volumes are way too high on tones, and there are obvious wrong notes, all signs that someone didn't take the time to test it.  You can't stop humans from being humans.

Correct, no one gets paid for this, we all do things to our own satisfaction here. The thing is, having a crappy CDLC doesn't prevent someone else from making a better version. So if you've been looking forward to playing that song, you can always make it yourself.

  7. Well, suppose there's a song that you absolutely love. It's difficult to play but you'd love to learn it.

Then one day it appears in the Customsforge search and you're like oh hell yes this is going to be awesome!

You download the song, fire up the game all excited, and then realise it's just some rubbish half-assed import of a rubbish half-assed tab someone found somewhere on the internet and quickly put here without even playing it. It's not useful for learning(!), it's not fun to play and it doesn't sound good. Got your hopes up for nothing.

First world problems, I know. But there are some options that might be worth trying if we'd like more consistent quality:

    1) Some kind of a rating system. It should allow a fresh rating if the file gets updated.

    2) A jury to select the absolutely best, near-perfect files for people to enjoy in some kind of top songs list. (May not be 100% fair to charters, but ensures a good amount of easy-to-find quality content for users.)

    3) A "workshop" type of place which would have the tracks that are still "in progress". They'd need to get somehow verified in order to get to the database (and could be downvoted back). Everyone could still browse the "in progress" type tracks, help to complete them with feedback etc, but there would also be an option to hide them from search.

The purpose here would be not only to filter out junk, but also to appreciate hard work! Currently the really good customs get mixed among the average ones and are easy to miss.

Unless you're making a tab from scratch and/or not bothering to sync it at least a little bit, it will most likely be useful for learning still (CDLC without tones' aren't the most fun but you can still learn).

1 is not a good solution because it tends to favor popular songs and one click ratings tend to not convey a ton. Also can be easily abused.

2 is cool, but we already have this sort of going around with the forum right now. There are quite a few threads with people's favorite DLCs, etc.

3 : Cool again, but a lot of work and the verification process could take a ton of man power. Think about it, you have to download the tab, make sure its in sync/correct notes. You're pretty close to remaking the song at this point.

At this point I'm a fan of just having a "favorite CDLC thread". If you really like the way a DLC was made you can always thank it or post a comment letting the author know how much you enjoyed.

  8.

You don't have to convince me on Java - I've been a Java dev for 15+ years  :)  I love doing side projects, but I am trying to figure out if I have time to devote to it right now.

What do you think about me coding the app in C# (already started) and then you porting it to Java + making a cool GUI. I mean, it wouldn't take you as much time as making an app from scratch, but you'd still be doing a nice side project.   :)

(I already started making it and I'm going to talk with Unleashed.)

    Why not use Mono? http://www.mono-project.com/

  9. Yeah, dropbox ftw, it's more convenient than these ad sites.

It's probably not worth the trouble for the admins, but just as a thought, I think it would be cool if Customsforge would host these files. It'd allow a direct download button and possibly some other cool features, and the files aren't too big I think. I'm aware it might mean bigger server costs, but maybe we could donate to the cause? :)

It's the bandwidth that would kill us as well, besides the possible infringement issues :P

  10. This is a bias band for me because I've seen this guys since one of their first album shows at a pizza place back in 2010/2011, but if one of you guys have a huge amount of time and can transcribe/tab stuff by ear, try one of these songs :P. I already asked the band for tabs but they have none.

    They be NSFW, btw.
  11. More posts getting deleted? :o

You're solving discussions you don't like by deleting posts - and this is not the first time you did.

You might give me the next non-expiring warning point, but maybe some people should stop to promote customs too offensive in public.

The customs contain copyrighted material - agree?

If you put it into a zip file or a psarc file where you have the tools to extract them is the same. Enjoy playing the customs, try to learn them, be a community, but don't shout it out everywhere that they exist. You'll be ignored if staying calm, but not if you act like a business owning any rights on the things you've to offer.

And if you like it or not, the whole things with customs is reverse engineering of a game. You break the license agreement - I like to play more content in Rocksmith and there would be missing something. Don't throw the fact that you can play customs to Ubisoft or to record labels into their faces to many times.

I've not read the replies before it has been deleted and can't answer to them, sorry.

I'm not going to delete your post, but please, make a new topic about it instead of posting in this one. I specifically asked users to post high quality CDLC and its being overshadowed by this topic (ie. off topic).

I am going to lock this thread. If you want to recommend high quality DLC, please message me.

  12. Daikano, I have to figure out the details of this still, I'd like to ask your permission to showcase your violin work at the upcoming MagFEST, possibly on a panel. I still have to bug my friend to see if she would be willing to play violin infront of tons of people, but I think this project shows the huge potential of the rocksmith/customsforge modding community.

  13. Also, can I ask those that have recommended songs or will in the future, to include the direct download link for the PC version (DD if possible, if not, thats ok). I'm very busy this week and the next. I'll try to gather them up via Ignition myself but it would help me greatly!

  14. Is there an easy and free way i can convert a pdf tab to a gp4 or gp5 file? i have a few pdf files i would like to make into CDLC but idk how

PDF is a format is more so graphical with some form features/functionality built in, it's not really encoded in an easy to parse data sort of way, which is what is kind of needed for this operation.

  15. I'd say you should go with the ones that every guy that picks up a guitar wishes to play, you know, stuff like Enter sandman, Stairway to Heaven, Sweet Child o' Mine, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Comfortably Numb, Californication, Hotel California, Iron Man, I could really go on and on, but you get the idea. These are all songs that have DD, everybody wants to learn to play, have great tones and will surely attract some attention since they have not been (And in cases like GNR will most likely never be) released by Ubisoft.

While I could see some of those going over pretty well, keep in mind that this is a gaming/music festival. Many people here will not have tastes "to the norm" (atleast, this is my assumption). There will probably be someone who is a huge Blind Guardian fan, to someone who loves video game music covers, to someone who digs whacky stuff like Babymetal, etc.

A piece of the magic that is Customsforge to me, is that there are many niche CDLC's out there. Many people may discover new bands even this way!

  16. Ello community!

I'm pretty happy to announce that Customsforge has been asked to participate at MAGFest 2015, a music and gaming festival in Baltimore/National Harbor, MD.
    http://magfest.org/sites/default/files/magfest-logo.pnghttp://magfest.org/
I will be going to represent us in the form of participating in a panel, and hosting a Rocksmith stand/booth where I plan on showcasing all the best Customsforge hosted CDLC's that we have to offer!

More details to come, but for now, I ask the community to recommend the highest quality CDLCs you have played or created! I am very open to all genres, as long as they are high quality, and do not cause dead tones/crash. I also recommend that they have DD, but it is not a requirement.  If you have a recommendation, please send me a private message (with a download link the PC psarc)!

If you live in the area, please come out and support us/have fun!

NOTE: This trip/event is being fully funded by myself, personally. All of your donations are still being used for site upkeep/server costs.

  17. You could download a ton of CDLC individually and try to add them all, but I also feel like non-stop play is a great candidate for this.

Remember, on some albums, not ALL songs have the same tuning, so you're pretty screwed... but with non-stop play, you can switch :)
