I know Pantera is based in Dallas, not sure where Dimebag was from.  I remember Pantera partying with the Dallas Stars after they won the Cup a few years back.  You probably wouldn't get in trouble for playing that guitar here, I was just poking fun at the state of the nation.  Just a little too flashy for me.   Growing up, the only time you saw the Confederate flag up here was on Dukes of Hazzard.  Still, I still wouldn't take it to a bar on the south side of Chicago for open mic night unless I wanted to leave with some free lead deposited in me.   49 people were shot in Chicago last weekend and as the temperatures rise, more bullets start to fly.  Most are gang affiliated, but many are from bullets hitting innocent people when they're eating dinner, waiting for a bus, unloading groceries, walking to school, playing at the park, etc.  It's a real shame.

After I'd close the blinds, I'd end up stabbing myself or a pet within the first five minutes of use. I know myself; first I'd sit down, have a smoke, start playing, go to adjust something, get the cord caught up in those spikes, pull the computer down with the amp falling on top of it, then trip over the pile because I can't see with the blinds shut. That's why I never took it out of the box.

  3. Sorry guys. I've been guitarless for the past couple weeks. Sent my bad-necked Dean back for a Schenker model Dean and this is what they sent me:

It's a Dean Dimebag Darrell Razorback. I think I'd get shot if I played that at anything but a KKK rally up here.

Also traded in my Epi Les Paul and Vox amp for a Marshall DSL40C. Waiting for the amp to come in at Guitar Center with my fingers crossed. New Schenker guitar supposed to be here this Saturday; hopefully it's the right model.

I hope the Friend is Jennifer Aniston, but I'll settle for a bloke from the UK.

The new guitar had a bad neck, had to send it back.  I've got a Dean Schenker V showing up today.  It's brand new, so hopefully there won't be any issues.

Lots of spring yard work to be done, so not much guitar playing this past week.

  5. Dear diary:

Spent the last day cleaning and setting up the V.  It was a display model at a small store and has seen some use and definitely needed a cleaning and polishing.  The ebony fretboard is beautiful.  The v shaped neck is way more comfortable than anything else I've tried.  I have bigger hands and it fills the gap nicely and gives my hitchiker's thumb a flat place to rest when playing power chords.  The fretboard has a really flat radius and fat frets compared to the Epi LP I've been playing.  It seems easier to move chords around on the flatter board and generally feels more natural, not quite sure why.  It's got twin Demarzio Super Distortion pickups that are much angrier than the ProBucker pups on the Epi.  I like angry.

I'm also trying to decide if I should sell advertising space on that headstock or maybe install a 27" flat panel.  Ideas welcome.

  6. Hello all,

Going to be trying all the acoustic and clean tones for Joe Walsh - Life's Been Good, the short acoustic riff part.  Need something loud and clear for that part.

Will try to give all the new songs a play tonight after Game of Thrones.

Just picked up one of these bad boys, Dean Chicago Flame V.  Should be here this week.  I am excited to play shitty on a new guitar.

  7. If I had it my way and nobody would complain, I would replace all the acoustic tones with a Marshall JCM800 on a Marshall cabinet with the gain turned up to 90.  It's impossible to make a good acoustic tone, but it's very easy to make a tone that will melt your face.  Just my two cents.

    Hey, Terry,

How did the dirty, long hair look of the 70's turn into the perms with frosted tips of the 80's?  The music went the same way as the hairdos.  The Neslons are prettier than most of the girls I've ever dated.  I think a Nelson/Buffett concert would cause a riot full of people dressed as parrots, pirates, and bananas fighting guys wearing eye liner.

Sorry, don't know how the hell I confused AC/DC with ZZ Top, especially when you're a huge ZZ guy.  Age must be rotting my brain.  I've never been a huge GnR fan either.  The Appetite for Destruction album was huge when I was in high school.  I've always been a big Slash fan, though.  Always thought Axl was kind of douchey.

"But your kids are gonna love it."  Always find that dubbed in voice singing Johnny B. Goode weird in the movie.

I worked on Charlie's Angels (the movie) and had the benefit of spending a little time with Crispin Glover (George McFly).  He was a really cool, laid back, eclectic kind of guy.  I couldn't talk to him without thinking of him saying, "You get your damn hands off her", though.

  11. Checked the temp folder and all my current song's files were saved there, i.e. ogg, wav, eof, bak, xml, etc.  Loaded up the notes file and all my work is there.  I'm not sure why it was saving to the temp folder and not the song's folder.  Maybe I fucked that up somehow.  Anyway, didn't lose any of my work so that's awesome.  Going to move files from temp to song folder and see if it saves as normal now.

    Thanks again!

Thanks, I'll give the temp folder a try.  I was quick saving the whole time I was using EoF on my latest project and shut down everything normally.  When I came back and loaded the 'notes' file, it didn't save any of my work.  It could be on my end.  I get a lot of problems when switching between headphones and speakers in the audio jack.  That has a tendency to crash EoF and GP5 for some reason.  Only time I've ever encountered this, so I don't think it's EoF, imo.

  13. Frey and Henley were such assholes.  Treated Felder like shit, even though he was their best song writer, so he left the band.  Then when Frey and Felder found out they couldn't write anything that didn't sound like a country tune, they hired Joe Walsh.  But they would only let Walsh come on as an employee of The Eagles and not a member.  So Walsh never got a cut, just a paycheck.  And that's why they're assholes.

  14. Flying V fans,

Epiphone is making Flying-Vs again.  They just introduced a beautiful custom Brent Hinds model that isn't in stores yet.  Could only find a price in Japan of 779,000 yen which is over $9,000 US and at Anderton's UK for pre-order for 599 quid, $850US (will cost less when released in US).  Epiphone has one other Flying-V model, Jeff Waters Custom for $500, but I can't find it anywhere in the US.

  15. I've seen some people using .gifs for their profile pictures on CF.  I've tried using a couple .gifs that were less than 50kb (the size limit for pics), but all that appears is the background picture of the .gif without any of the 'movement' frames.  I've tried uploading the .gif to CF as well as hosting it on a third party site with no success.  Any advice?

Jingo v1.1 - Still have to agree with avdoc on the lead tone.  It has a twangy, country sound when played now rather than a howling distorted sound.  It's easier to see chords now with increased speed.  Found two broken notes in the 1st and 7th sections on G string bends.

Song of the Wind - Same thoughts on lead tone as Jingo.  Charting, speed, and volumes are good.  Eight or nine broken notes on bends on the e and G strings.
