Hey guys. So I had an idea. This is one of the quieter areas of the forum at the moment and that's a shame. There's potential here for a whole community within a community of people looking to learn the guitar or bass (or maybe even some other instruments?!) So to get us moving down the right road, I had an idea. A new instructional video every day, something to keep things fresh, give you some new ideas or maybe that creative breakthrough you've been looking for. I'll trawl the interwebs to see what I can find. It wont all be beginner stuff, by any means, some of it even quite advanced, but I will take requests if there's anything people are finding particularly …

-= Rodmans Shred Course =- From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Shred guitar is a virtuosic style of electric guitar performance. Categorized by its use of advanced techniques, shredding is a complex art form. Shred guitar includes fast alternate picking, sweep-picking, diminished and harmonic minor scales, tapping, and whammy bar use.[1] Often incorporated in heavy metal, guitarists employ a guitar amplifier and a range of effects such as distortion. This creates a sustained guitar tone and may facilitate guitar feedback. Basically GET FREAKING FAST AND ALWAYS KNOW WHAT YOUR FINGERS ARE DOING Background: I´ve also been …

Backstory: without going into too much personal history, I've had a very on going shoulder injury and seeing a NHS physio to try and aid my shoulder back to health has made things alot worse. I repeatedly drop things out of my hand and constantly shoulder pain, result being to play the guitar is getting harder and harder, even today I couldn't play the intro to R U Mine on the Rocksmith Championship I couldn't get out of the first minute without missing a bunch of notes, I tried Dire Dire Docks but again missed so many notes because the constant ache in my shoulder and it's had a huge knock on effect in my confidence too and my passion for playing. Even trying Bernth…

Hello all, I've used Rocksmith in the past to learn guitar and over the past year, I switched to the Justin Guitar app for the lessons as I had a free subscription. I've come back to Rocksmith as my subscription is up and I enjoy the feedback rocksmith provides but I still wanted to supplement my practice with Justin Guitar. With losing access to the app, I thought it might be good to create my own practice tracks, just a few chord changes and simple chords that match the practice sections of the current lesson or grade I am working through on Justin Guitar. However on looking into this, it seems rather complicated? And needing a guitar tab etc. D…

I'm looking for CDLC that are cool to play on bass in drop D tuning. I already have a bunch of them downloaded but otherwise there are just way too many others from bands I don't really know, so I am open for suggestions. Any genre is fine. Intermediate level preferred but not strictly necessary.

This might sound like a strange request but I wonder if anyone has any suggestion here... I am looking for some app (Android or website-based) to help organise my practicing. I would like to be able to enter a list of practice items (such as individual songs, exercises, or topics) and mark down whenever I spend time on them, with the app remembering the last time I did, so that I am aware of how many days have passed since last time. I don't need statistics, or anything more detailed than just marking "done" on a given day. Mostly the purpose is to make sure I don't neglect certain types of practice for too long. If the app has reminders, for examp…

I got my guitar when I was, 16, and to be honest, I probably should've gotten one earlier. I played Saxophone in the High School band, and I was good at that. and now I'm going on nine years since that purchase. And when I think of it, I just get sad, and angry. At myself, and at others, but a lot at myself, specifically my stupid left hand. I still struggle to move some fingers independently of each other. I thought I needed a finger exerciser, turned out that was the opposite of what I needed, more muscle made them slower, what I needed to do was stretch them, and that's not exactly an exact science besides pull on them back, until they hurt a little bit because then yo…

I come from practicing guitar in a very methodical way, and had plenty of books full of exercises focused on techniques and physical skills. For some reason, it doesn't seem just as common to find similar books for bass... most bass books I see around are about learning grooves and styles, or theory and improvisation. Which is great of course, and very understandable considering the nature and role of the bass instrument! But I also would like to put my hands on a book with plenty of mechanical exercises, to increase my skill level towards playing more challenging songs. Perhaps because I already play the guitar, I have the feeling that my LEFT hand is much bett…

Hi, So, I'd like to use my DAW (mixcraft 9) to record myself playing tracks. I was able to do this once, but when I tried it later, it didn't work. Both in LAS and SA, the game just stops and brings me to the end screen. The first time (when I was able to do it) there was no sound in the game, but it gave me the notes to play and I could record it into my DAW, but now it won't do that. Please note, I'm not interested in using game capture type programs. That's not what I'm after here. Rather trying to use RS to merely record myself playing. Any help is greatly appreciated.

So for a bit of background, about 2 and a half years ago I decided to learn bass after messing with music theory and failed piano attempts for years. Started with a random Kelly club custom hybrid my family had, swapped to a short scale beater I got to a friend, and finally the spring the following year picked up a sterling sub ray double humbuckler. That’s when I discovered my beater was a short scale and I had a bit of a jarring time trying to adjust. Up to that point I messed with some songs from a tab book(I’m someone who gels well with theory and info but my hands take forever to catch up) and had been using rocksmith for my consistent practice. Problem is I moved, l…

Do people sight read when learning songs on rocksmith ? I am asking because if you put difficulty to 100% it gives you the full song, but it requires more memory and learning parts slowed down over and over, a lot of people would say that is a great way to learn but am i missing out learning to sight read within rocksmiths note highway with the use of DD, I am comparing it with the same thing you would do for piano if you were learning to sight read it is generally less notes and slow speed and then you get better at reading you move up a level, So the thing that is confusing me is are we learning to get better at sight reading in rocksmith or are we learning to …

Hello im starting practicing bass slap, i looked at a lot of videos on youtube, and i figured out i prefer the thumb up position, my question is, do you aim a little higher than the string you want to slap? because if i aim at the string i want to slap im slapping the string on top (example : if i want to slap A string most of the time i hit the E string aswell), i guess is just practice but some advice would help, thanks 😄

Is that a bad technique when learning. Cuz you are alternate picking, arnt you, i mean you are hitting each string moving the pick in opposite directions and you are playing by the economy principle of least effort when playing. But somehow it looks bad to me. From the learning point of view, is it better to pick those two contiguous strings by alternatively placing the pick on the outside of each string then pick like: Pick >| |< Pick instead of | <Pick> | Is this relevant at all or just nonsensical.

Project to gather, organize and standardize, and improve exercise customs Rules recommended 1. Arrangement is in "Lead", and bonus/alternate arrangements 2. Tuning is E-Standard (except for special situations, like 5string Bass) 3. Record page (submitted cDLC) : Artist name "You", Album name "Exercises" (beware of typos) Ignition search "Exercises" order on Artist - should give a most complete list. 4. Exercises should list together in RS14, sorted by Artist "You" display under "Y", not overloaded letter. "You Bass" for Bass only Exercises "You Artist" for Exercises by Artists "You Riff" for practical Exercises 5. Filenames (no space), "YouBass, YouArtist,YouRi…

-= Rodmans Course for Kids and Beginners =- Well... my 6 year old son learns to play the guitar now for about a year, and he does really well. 30 min lession at a professional musician once a week and a bit practice at home. As he knows me shredding some RS CS songs all the time he is very Rocksmith motivated - so to connect his achieved abilities to the game as well as present an easy course to anyone or anyones kids who want to start playing the guitar i decided to chart some of his exercises and songs and some own collected stuff to a growing collection here... P.S: my son uses my fender squier mini strat which works quite fine.…
