Background:
I´ve also been thinking about my performance in the CS. Last year was packed with rl stuff - i got a new boss at work and i was named deputy chief of my department, which comes with (as always) a lot lot more work than you´d expect .... but i got that all covered by now and i´ll not go without one hour of guitar a day 2025. Goals? Now - i am in direct contest with our vip players/orgas @ Mikson in and with @ cacahuate51
And i am in the lucky situation that they both are a tad better than me. Always. Everytime. ;). So i went through my weaknesses - and besides arpeggios the real pain is the solosections coming up - really suck at those quick notes - so

Learn to shred and learn the fretboard!!!!
So at beginning of january i did some research - changed my pick, changed my picking technique and changed my fretting technique (oh boy what a pain after more than 10 years of doing everything ... other ways) started to do shredding exercises, free ones found on yt, i am doing 10 to 60 mins a day and and progress comes quite quickly. The ones i´ve been sticking to are mainly BERNTHs free lessons – he is not only Austrian like me, but best shredder i´ve seen so far and he cares to explain technical stuff also and he mentions in his videos that the licks can be used in stuff like the one here.
As there was feedback on the CS I decided to on my way share the exercises as full RS Shred course.

starting a few mins in the comfort zone (80-90), then a few mins of push on the edge, then bursts and licks

I repeatedly drop things out of my hand and constantly shoulder pain, result being to play the guitar is getting harder and harder, even today I couldn't play the intro to R U Mine on the Rocksmith Championship I couldn't get out of the first minute without missing a bunch of notes, I tried Dire Dire Docks but again missed so many notes because the constant ache in my shoulder and it's had a huge knock on effect in my confidence too and my passion for playing. Even trying Bernths beginner 30 minute routine was a slog to get through. Yes I did ok in this weeks championships, but it's not good and it's not clean.

A little bit of history, I've been playing since just before the very first Rocksmith, currently I play at night (between 9pm-11pm) when the family are asleep in the summer house so I'm not distracted. I play a RGT1221PB so a good guitar.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues?

I've used Rocksmith in the past to learn guitar and over the past year, I switched to the Justin Guitar app for the lessons as I had a free subscription.

I've come back to Rocksmith as my subscription is up and I enjoy the feedback rocksmith provides but I still wanted to supplement my practice with Justin Guitar.

With losing access to the app, I thought it might be good to create my own practice tracks, just a few chord changes and simple chords that match the practice sections of the current lesson or grade I am working through on Justin Guitar.

However on looking into this, it seems rather complicated? And needing a guitar tab etc.

Does anyone else do this? Create there own practice tracks? Is it a good idea? I wouldn't be looking to play along to a song, just practicing throw the different chords I am learning and changing between them, I was hoping this would be easy to create, but looking through the tutorials it seems like quite a big job/involves a large amount of different tools etc.

I've noticed some CDLC from the artist 'you' listed and they seem to have some stuff that is good, so i will add that to my routine for now, but i'd really like to customise my practice and create routines, but it seems that is oddly rather difficult?

I already have a bunch of them downloaded but otherwise there are just way too many others from bands I don't really know, so I am open for suggestions. Any genre is fine. Intermediate level preferred but not strictly necessary. 

I am looking for some app (Android or website-based) to help organise my practicing. I would like to be able to enter a list of practice items (such as individual songs, exercises, or topics) and mark down whenever I spend time on them, with the app remembering the last time I did, so that I am aware of how many days have passed since last time.

I don't need statistics, or anything more detailed than just marking "done" on a given day. Mostly the purpose is to make sure I don't neglect certain types of practice for too long. If the app has reminders, for example when exceeding a certain number of days without doing a certain exercise then even better.

The reason I want such thing is because I currently cannot afford to have a fixed practice schedule. I practice whenever I have enough time and peace, but I don't know in advance when it happens. So I need something to remind me what I haven't practiced lately. At the moment I am using an app meant for house chores 😅 which is not bad: instead of telling me "you haven't vacuumed for a whole month" I have created custom items that tell me "you haven't practiced improvisation for a whole month", but if I could find a music specific app then it would be much better.

Any suggestions?

Any advice? Should I buy some materials, chord books? Go to some lessons, stretch my fingers more, maybe work out a little bit? Come back to it. I remember that when I get sick of Saxophone, I would play the guitar a bit, and then when I'd go back to Sax, I loved it, and vice versa. Maybe I just need to go back to that for a while. Or maybe, I should buy that grestch I was thinking of getting, or an acoustic. I'm at an impasse. I feel like I was better, back when I didn't even know how to play those two songs. Has anyone else gone through something like this?

On a side note I have been looking at getting a Epiphone Les Paul Studio E1 to start learning with, but I thought id see what the more experienced guitarist can suggest.

Can anyone recommend songs, exercises etc that'll help me in achieving my goal of playing face-melting lead guitar?

For some reason, it doesn't seem just as common to find similar books for bass... most bass books I see around are about learning grooves and styles, or theory and improvisation. Which is great of course, and very understandable considering the nature and role of the bass instrument!

But I also would like to put my hands on a book with plenty of mechanical exercises, to increase my skill level towards playing more challenging songs. Perhaps because I already play the guitar, I have the feeling that my LEFT hand is much better than my RIGHT hand at the moment. After all, as a guitarist I pretty much always use a pick with the electric, and even though I play fingerpicking on my classical, it's a VERY different kind of fingerpicking than the one used in bass 🙂 So I definitely feel like I should seek out for exercises that can help my right-hand index and middle fingers be more consistent and precise when changing or skipping strings.

Do you know and have you used such books for bassists?

So, I'd like to use my DAW (mixcraft 9) to record myself playing tracks. I was able to do this once, but when I tried it later, it didn't work. Both in LAS and SA, the game just stops and brings me to the end screen. The first time (when I was able to do it) there was no sound in the game, but it gave me the notes to play and I could record it into my DAW, but now it won't do that.

Please note, I'm not interested in using game capture type programs. That's not what I'm after here. Rather trying to use RS to merely record myself playing.

So a bit under a year has passed and I’ve decided it’s time to fire back up rocksmith, fix one of my issues of convenience (I finally ordered a new solid stand. My place doesn’t support my wall mounts and the stand I got with my beater isn’t very good. Plus I just cleared a spot), and hope the break will allow me to adjust to the full scale better. Even if actually playing with people is still a big question, I love music so I may as well dive back in. Probably making a new rocksmith profile and refreshing my skills too.

So one of the bigger issues I have I wanted to ask for help on is that my reading skills surpass both my ear and playing skills. I can pick up the flow of a song but I suck at identifying shift points by note, the little I’ve done is with a singer on piano as lead, usually doing a simple pattern using their chords as a lead note for offsetting. But while I’m fine reading tabs I’ve had a hard time working on my ear. So I was wondering if anyone had some good advice on that. Also what’s a good rep set (stand alone and/or drill arcade in rocksmith) to work on for drilling back in the basics?

Further suggestions :

Aim is quality in form and content in the making of exercises. 

• guitar mp3 track only if useful (to rhythm or melody)
   (no guitar track allows more arrangements in different keys, tunings, root notes
• drum/beat track is alive, better then dead boring metronome
• metronome bonus arrangement added by checking Metronome in Toolkit/arrangement window
• notes must be on beats!
• no empty last sector
• lyrics (long duration) for each sector to recall the topic exercised, player's focus
• divide exercises in logical sectors, optimize fret hand positions
• constant increase in difficulty ( not jumping from easy to hard back to easy)
• don't overload a custom with different topics, tabs or riffs, 4-5 minutes duration optimal
• use clean tone (except if Metal...)

Well... my 6 year old son learns to play the guitar now for about a year, and he does really well. 30 min lession at a professional musician once a week and a bit practice at home.
As he knows me shredding some RS CS songs all the time he is very Rocksmith motivated - so to connect his achieved abilities to the game as well as present an easy course to anyone or anyones kids who want to start playing the guitar i decided to chart some of his exercises and songs and some own collected stuff to a growing collection here...

P.S: my son uses my fender squier mini strat which works quite fine.

The lessions are either Exercises or Songs, categorised by

Difficulty Levels 1-5(-10 maybe somewhen)
L1 - minimal stringskipping, slow, only open strings or one hand position
L2 - max. 2 strings, one hand position, short
L3 - one hand position, more strings, faster, longer
L4 - more than one hand position or generally harder / faster than L3
L5 - too difficult for L4 / first chords

The lessions consist of tabs very well synced to a background metronome track.

Tipp: The speed is chosen at the songs to match an comfortale singalong and at the exercises at the speed they are meant to be played - so start off with reduced speed in Riff Repeater and accelerate as you progress!!!!

... starting easy lessons and depending on the response and my sons motivation planning to add a lot more. have fun.

i made a dream come true and i currently have a double bass here for loan. 

Now i play all the stuff from the "Blue note café", and i am searching for more songs to play in rocksmith.

Everything that has a nice double bass line would be welcomed. If you have a proposal, i would be very grateful!

Can also be only some walking bass exercises for example, i got a few but not all i think thats out there.
