  1. Todays updates, and a slightly more respectable beginner score to start:

Int. Rhythm, pretty much the same as the lead, but it's so much fun to play so why not ?:

Currently trying to finish up the MC rhythm, really digging the jazzy-blues vibe of this song.

  2. Another nice selection of songs this week, took a few quick runs through each to see what's what.

    Beginner:

Couple of section are quite difficult for beginner level, solo needs some RR'ing for me.

    Intermediate:

Really fun song to play !

    Advanced:

Couldn't get my fingers to follow the strange chords at all ! Not my cup of tea really so this one's a pass for me.

    MC:

Only played the rhythm part, lead looks fun but really difficult and it's probably where I'll be spending most of my time this week.

    Rhythm results:

  3. At that budget you've got an astonishing range of choices - best bet is to decide on the body shape and pickups configuration you want and then go from there. SG's are nice guitars to play though, certainly wouldn't try to talk you out of getting one.

Personally, I love the look of this Eastwood Sidejack http://www.thomann.de/gb/eastwood_sidejack_dlx_mb.htm

Don't forget to look into the second hand market as well !

Edit: Not sure if you're interested in an acoustic, but obviously you're a Rancid fan and Tim Armstrong's sig electro-acoustic is around your budget: http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_tim_armstrong_hellcat_acoustic.htm

  4. MasterClass Rhythm - 88%, 109 streak

Someone should gave it a try :P

indeed, cracking song to play, looking forward to giving it a decent go tomorrow.

Still working on the Pink Floyd solo. One of the greatest solos ever written so I'm putting a lot of time into doing it some sort of justice :)

It's been a fun week so far !

  5. Back after a slight absence, finishing up college life (last time, I swear) and moving house didn't leave me with a lot of time, but no matter.

Week 100, quite an accomplishment for everyone involved in running the championship, and what a line up !

    Metallica:

Not bad, only the double time riff in the middle is giving me a bit of difficulty.

Comfortably Numb coming along nicely, still got five or six sections of the solo to nail down, slightly blistered one or two fingers today :)

Hoping to get those two out of the way before too long and spend the rest of the week on World on Fire, looks like fun !

  6. Happy birthday @@then3verend :)

Last week was pure hectic for me, this is first day I've had a chance to play since the last time I posted here !

    Beginner:

    http://i62.tinypic.com/sdmuyw.png

Nice song for beginners, missed all the dead notes/harmonics at the every end, but since they're not really part of the song I'm not too bothered about it.

    Int. Rhythm:

    http://i58.tinypic.com/pq51w.png

    MC Rhythm:

    http://i59.tinypic.com/2s0h2rl.png

Not bad for sight reading. It's not really a MC rhythm song though, only the solo makes it difficult, the actual rhythm parts are very straightforward.

Major props to @ for tabbing out the Billy Cobham song, unfortunately it's not for me at all.

Not sure how much time I'll get to play this week, so I'll stick with Freebird class for the minute.

  7. @ Wasn't having a go at the quality of your custom, just venting some frustration over how difficult I was finding it ! Your work is excellent as ever :)

The first time I looked at the tab I honestly thought it was a bit easy for adv. lead - how wrong I was. Took multiple, multiple attempts but eventually I managed this:

    http://i57.tinypic.com/rthqit.png

Think that's it for the week for me, doubt I'll get much more time to practice properly - and it's probably going to be the same for next week and the week after, so,

can a mod move me to Freebird class for the next while and I'll rejoin MC when I have more time.

  8. Very little time to play this week, pretty flat out getting my masters thesis finished up. So far I've only managed to get Int Rhythm done:

    http://i61.tinypic.com/250pg07.png

Hoping to get Int and Adv lead learned by weeks end, not too pushed on War Pigs to be honest but I'll give it a quick run though.

  9. @@2groggy I played it exactly as tabbed in the cdlc. I think the best alternate fingering would be using the open and second fret of the D string along with the second fret A string, and just sliding up 1 fret instead of bending.

As for the thumb, I'm talking about fretting notes on the low E by curling the thumb over the top of the neck, can make life a little easier at times.

  10. Suffering today from a bit of a dose, although being a man I'm pretty sure it's actually super triple pneumonia  :(

Still, managed a few quick play through's.

Just enough to send @@TrbInTrbIn back for another go:

    http://i61.tinypic.com/av31ok.png

And my first proper go at MC rhythm:

    http://i57.tinypic.com/2wd57di.png

Not on top of my game at the minute, hopefully I'll be better by tomorrow.

@@2groggy for the second bend in the Grounds for Divorce riff I used my middle finger supported by the index to get the bend up to pitch.

For the chord section I used barre chords but didn't fret the root note until it was needed, the last two chords I used my thumb to get to the bass notes. Hope that helps somewhat.

  11. Update for the day:

    Int. Lead

    http://i58.tinypic.com/ixv2h5.png

    Adv. Rhythm

    http://i57.tinypic.com/28u2x6o.png

Both of these should be very possible to hit 100% on if I had more time, but I'm going to be away from Thursday morning to Sunday evening, so it's a short week and I need to get on and play my own classes.

Tomorrow I'll give the Sigh lead a go.

  12. Feels like I've hit a mental block, just can't seem to manage to play this song without missing notes somewhere along the way. Last three scores have been identical so I think that'll do it for the week.

    http://i57.tinypic.com/2z8c47s.png

Edit: Taking a pass on this weeks Adv Lead, spent so much time playing Monsters and the rhythm part of Iron Maiden that I don't have time to make a decent stab at learning the lead.
