Wow, this is amazing...thanks! As someone who only owns one bass, I'd say it's even worth doing for my CDLC that are in Eb standard so I don't have to constantly tune and re-tune for one or two odd songs in a session.

Very cool! It's great to see someone pushing the boundaries of bass in Rocksmith!
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I don't have any experience with charting songs yet. After completing your steps above, do you still tune the bass to the desired tuning, or keep it in standard? At first I thought you would tune the bass, but after rereading your post, it almost sounds like you keep the bass in standard and the CDLC does the transposition down to the lower tuning for you.
Thanks,

Turn it up/adjust your EQ to better hear the bassist, he has some great lines!

Lawdy...
How'd we get this far without some FLEA? Higher Ground of course!
Very true.
I also really like Soul To Squeeze, but it is currently on my 'too hard to play' list so I forgot to mention it. :???:

@@PhamNuwen You make a great point. I've only been playing bass for two months and was surprised that I could pretty much just start playing songs from day one (started with Pour Some Sugar on Me) and gradually work my way up in difficulty. The list of songs that I can play reasonably well is much larger on bass than on guitar, and I feel that list is also expanding much more quickly.

Let me preface my list by saying I've only been playing bass for two months, so what I consider fun and somewhat challenging may be quite elementary to someone else:
RS 2014 and CDLC:
Metallica - Nothing Else Matters
John Mayer - Gravity -- Lots of cool ghost notes and quick changes in this one
Bob Dylan - Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Minus the Bear - Cold Company
Guns & Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine -- Too hard for me, but it looks fun!
Metallica - Turn the Page
Bruno Mars - Treasure -- FUNKY!
Metallica - Enter Sandman
Daft Punk - Get Lucky
Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know
Bruno Mars - Locked Out of Heaven
Led Zeppelin - You Shook Me
Tom Petty and the Hearbreakers - Mary Jane's Last Dance
Derek and the Dominoes - Have You Ever Loved a Woman
Metallica - The Unforgiven
Wolfmother - DimensionDaft Punk - Lose Yourself to Dance
Pharrell Williams - Happy
Zac Brown Band - Chicken Fried
CDLC with NO DEFAULT TONE!
The following are fun songs to play, but as of this writing they have no default tone and will disable your bass tone until you restart Rocksmith.
Chic - Le Freak
Gary Moore - Midnight Blues
Dazz - Brick
Gary Moore - Still Got The Blues
AC/DC - Back in Black
Bob Marley - Jammin'
RS1 On-Disc Songs:
The Black Keys - Next Girl
The Rolling Stones - Spider and the Fly
Radiohead - High and Dry
Taddy Porter - Mean Bitch
Lenny Kravitz - Are You Gonna Go My Way

In no particular order, and I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting:
Rage Against the Machine - Battle for Los Angeles tour
Jethro Tull
Dave Matthews Band
The Black Keys
Spoon
The White Stripes
Eric Hutchinson
Jason Mraz
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Arctic Monkeys
Bon Jovi
Kid Rock
John Mayer
311 & Jay-Z
Method Man & RedMan - The Blackout tour
ICP ( I was 13...shut up. :-P )
Keb' Mo'
Anders Osborne
Ben Harper
Ziggy Marley

Hi Ally,
Thanks for the reply! I agree with you that in some cases the feature works just fine. There are some threads, however, where it just doesn't appear for me. I'm not sure how helpful this will be, but I'll give you an example. During my session today, the 'Rocksmith Championship Week 23' thread (a thread in which I've never posted, only read) gave me the option to view the first unread post, whereas the 'Show us what you play' thread (a thread in which I have posted) in the Gear Garage did not.
At the end of the day, this isn't a deal-breaker or anything. I just thought I'd mention it for posterity.

New Jack White single:
Nice! The riff sounds very Dead Weather-esque, and Jack's lead is pretty distinctive as well...cool track!

Thanks for the YouTube links, I'd never heard of them before. Not really my cup of tea, but to each their own.

That was great, thanks Jackstraw! It's amazing to see how happy he is playing that song, smiling throughout. And it's great to see that he was still inspired and playing well right up to the end.

Hello,
I've noticed that some threads I'm following and/or have posted in display the 'Go to first unread post' option when they have unread posts and others don't. Is there a certain scenario or criteria other than new unread posts that triggers this to appear or not appear?
Thanks,

Man, am I glad I happened to click on this thread! I experience this 'no more sound' problem quite often, especially when I'm playing my bass; which makes more sense now since people are more likely to submit a song without a bass tone than without a guitar tone. I'm glad I know the cause, now I can be more careful when downloading CDLCs...thanks!

Ok great. Im going to see if I can use a neighbors computer to get them up. The first one I am going to put up is from 1973. It includes the albums Workingmans Dead and American Beauty. Should be a great starting point. Hopefully you have some masters of these.
Here are the tracks listed.
Workingmans Dead-
Uncle Johns Band
High Time
Dire Wolf
New Speedway Boogie
Cumberland Blues
Black Peter
Easy Wind
Casey Jones
American Beauty-
Box of Rain
Friend of the Devil
Sugar Magnolia
Operator
Candyman
Ripple
Brokedown Palace
Till the Morning Comes
Attics of my Life
Truckin
Wow, I forgot how great those albums were until you see all those tracks listed like that. If those were all CDLC, I'd never leave the house! :D
Aludog and Sleepy....we need to make this one a CDLC. This would be quite a challenge.
Boy, that one got 'out there' really quickly...great jam!
Somewhere in the middle of the second set of every Grateful Dead show the band turns a corner. They enter a musical environment without walls or structure. The song form is abandoned, and the very elements of music may be called into question. The only mandate is to explore new territory. It is an environment where rhythm, tone, color, melody, and harmony can be explored without rules or predetermination, a musical adventure where composition and performance are one.
Poetry.

I had limited experience with tabs before starting Rocksmith, but I did read and play them. Even so, I just couldn't get used to the inverted view when playing RS...something about it just didn't click. Once I switched to the default view it seemed much easier; I think it was the fact that the notes are coming down the highway and it's like I'm looking through the back of the neck.
Now that I'm going to start trying to play more outside of RS, I wonder if it will be hard to go back to tab notation. I might give the inverted display in RS another shot, but I think it will be even harder to go back now that I've used the other method for several months. :|

Interesting. Is it a known issue that trying to play a song without a custom tone defined will crash Rocksmith?

Man, @@Jackstraw13, those are some great vids...thanks! I think it's going to be a looooooong time before I could handle a CDLC of that The Other One>Eyes of the World>The Other One performance!
I'll have to see if I can find an mp3 I have at home of my favorite live version of Ripple. I have no idea what show it's from, unfortunately, as I randomly grabbed it back in the Napster days, but there's something about Jerry's phrasing and vocal inflection in this performance that I've always loved.
That's amazing that Phil never played bass before joining the band, and impresses me even more. The way he plays you'd think he was born with a bass in hand.
One of my few regrets is that I never got to see them live. I was only 15 when Jerry died so I had no chance to see them in their prime, but it still kinda bums me out. :-|

New Black Keys single! I've listened to it twice now. I don't know, maybe it will grow on me.
Hmm. Well it's not my new favorite Black Keys song, but I guess every band has to grow and try new things. Anxious to hear the rest of the album!

no problem. i will start getting them to you as i scan them. im looking forward to this. and appreciate all the collaboration.
by the way...did anyone check out that fire on the mountain from winterland 12-31-78 i put up? its a good one.
(~);}
Can you link this? I did a search and I can't find it (I'd love to give it a shot)
I think he's referring to the video at the top of the thread of the Dead performing Fire On the Mountain.
I watched it, it's a great one! One of my favorite tracks to see them perform live...I'm always interested to see how they're going to segue into and out of it.

@@sleepy You must have the cheapest guitar acquisition in guitar history, 10 bucks only!! wow, I wish they have garage sales like that here. Was that LP in desperate need of some love or was playable when you got it?
It says Gibson on the truss rod cover so you might be so lucky that you even got a korean one
My parents are actually the ones that found it. They go to quite a few garage/estate sales and are pretty good at spotting deals, haggling, etc. If you're willing to do a little refurb, there are some amazing deals to be had, and not only on intruments.
As for the LP Jr., she does have a few battle scars; there's what appears to be a finish crack on the bass side of the neck right where the headstock joins the neck, but it hasn't affected playability. All we did when they brought her home was polish the frets, clean and oil the fretboard, and change strings...basically gave it a standard setup. I have since then swapped out the tuners for a set from GFS (which made a world of difference in terms of tuning stablility), but it wasn't absolutely necessary. Thanks for the tip re: the truss rod cover, I'll have to do a little research and find out where she's from!

Very cool, thanks for the answers! I've removed my song from the list until I have the time to review the guitar parts and determine in which division it belongs.
sleepy

I've added my name and a song to the selection list. I do have couple of questions, if I may:
- I added my song to the list after only playing the bass part. Should I play all the available parts to a song before adding it to the list?
- If the different parts to a song are at different difficulty levels, in which division should the song be listed?
- I know right now that I am not in the Masterclass division. Should I still put a song on the list in that division?
Thanks,

Sorry, I should have clarified that I was referring to other people's CDLC that I've downloaded for my own use, not CDLC that I've created and shared. Because I haven't created any...yet.
