About Me

I'm an old hippie who grew up listening to numerous genres of music. My earliest memories were of me lying on the floor next to my older brother watching the various variety shows of the early 60's that featured the popular artists of the time. I can recall seeing that first USA Beatle appearance on Ed Sullivan, as well as numerous appearances by Jeff Beck, and even the Doors appearance where Jim pissed off Ed and the censors by using the word "High"; my how we have evolved over the last 50+ years.

I bought my first guitar in 1968 when I was 10 years old. Answered one of those ads in the back of a Boy's Life magazine to "earn cash and prizes selling personalized greeting cards." Spent the summer pedaling my Schwinn Stingray around the nearby neighborhoods until I had sold 12 boxes of personalized Christmas cards (This was July in central FL no less) and then waited impatiently for my "Genuine Folk Guitar to arrive in the mail. It really was a total piece of crap but I loved it and set about developing amazing finger strength along with concrete callouses as I learned my chords; the action was so high you could roll a no.2 pencil down the fretboard under the strings. Not long after it was suggested that I play it with a slide, about the same time that I was turned on to Duane Allman.

Played French Horn in my jr high school band in eighth grade; the band director was a total assclown so despite being quite talented I only played the one year. I heard he later married some chick from our class, so yeah he truly was a loser. Turning my attention back to guitar I received my first electric, a Karma (Montgomery Wards) paired with a 5W Univox amp, for Christmas. Our version of Rocksmith was to sit next to the record player for hours on end listening to and attempting to emulate riffs from our favorite songs. We would then get together and share our new found knowledge with each other as we fined tuned our techniques.

More to come-a work in progress
