I found what was causing this: Guitar Pro was defining the note rhythm using tuplets of 0 divisions. This makes absolutely no sense, and is probably a bug with Guitar Pro, but I added handling to ignore this if it is found. It now imports without the unexpected chord at the beginning and the tablature seems to import normally.
Do you know how this GP5 file was created? Was it made by Guitar Pro 6? A third party program like TuxGuitar?
I manually created this from pdf and input it to gp5 also I tried recreating this again by opening a new one then copy pasting the notes and the results are the same

I've never seen that happen and would need the Guitar Pro file to test with.
Yeah, that's why I was pretty lost at what's happening as well and here you go https://www.dropbox.com/s/qe97gd9cbb6adyz/oyasumi.gp5?dl=0

Hello, this is my first time experiencing something like this in EoF where whenever I import the track it adds something that isn't in the track and most notes are missing from the track.

You could use tuxguitar instead since you can import and also convert tabs to guitar pro format
