  1. I'm on board with the "No Mo Limo" group this week. Might need rehab in the future. But this advice about switching to a song I like is a good one for a short term cure! ;)

Just throw in a first try on any song you like

  2. Loved the Queens of the Stone Age song this week! Great pick for beginner, always happy when I can get >80% on lead! :) Fun parts all around. Too bored with the STP bass, could only play it through a few times. Thanks again, never heard either of these songs before.

  3. As a beginner I even have a capo and use it in a bunch of songs on and off Rocksmith. Bought one for $5 on Amazon and works great. I agree that if you can spend a few hundred on a guitar and the game AND you're playing long enough MC, probably even Intermediate that you'll have a capo. But so many good songs, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, It's a Long Way To the Top, Jesus of Suburbia everything from The Smiths. Worth it!

Well, I felt that if you're in MC rhythm you probably have capo. You can try to play with your 1st finger as capo. It'll be tougher, but not impossible (at least in majority).

I would not allow capo for Beginners.

  4. I really wanted to get over 90% on the Int song but it's not going to happen this week. Seem to be getting worse and can't listen it anymore. ;) I loved The Stones song but always seem to get down ranked in one part each try. Will keep playing on that one. Seemed actually slightly harder than the Beatles song to me but they were close.

  5. Fun songs this week, my guitar did not like Open C tuning, kept going out of tune. I'm happy I was able to keep it going for 4 minutes to post get though this song without being downranked finally. ;) Liked Alt-J but a little too tough for me so no score there. Thanks! Yeah for next week!

  6. Out of time to play, love the Bob Marley song and will play that again. I can also really feel what the Pachebel's rant is all about since this is the first time I've had the "pleasure" of playing it on a bass. Beautiful guitar part, horribly boring bass part. ;)

  7. Fun songs this week, I loved this Metric song but didn't realize it was on CF. Fun song for beginner for sure. Feel like I could do better on both the bass parts, just tire out near the end and end of the week.

    Thanks!

  8. Like most, my one shot at the full Dragonforce song. I could see maybe going up 1% but no way it will be perfect, too fast! Played a bunch of Good Charlotte, not a band I listen to and reminds me of the band in the intro to Brütal Legend, still was surprising fun to play. Happy getting up into 80% on lead, though I'm only slightly more practice on this song and it would be near perfect.

  9. Well, i'm making progress on the lead of this song playing through the parts but no more time this week. I'd rank this song a 4 because the intro is tricky, though the chords aren't too bad once the song gets going. But after playing a few more hours I'd be convinced it's a 3. ;) Will for sure keep it, fun song for all parts.

  10. Good writeup @@MilkmanDan!

I'd actually give the difficulty edge in this slightly to Pink Floyd. It's a little slower than Red Hot Chili Peppers, but the only really hard part of the RHCP is the fast part which is easier to RR on. Both songs use all 4 strings and there's seems like a lot more movement in Floyd. I'd consider them both intermediate though. I also thought that the Floyd lead part was potentially a 4 on difficulty too, but still probably the easiest of the leads this week.

Anyway here we my scores after playing for a few hours. Not a ton of time this week again.

Updated/revised difficulty ratings for bass, taking near final scores into account:

(these are not official in any way, just me trying to help contribute to difficulty ratings consistency)

    Beginner Bass:

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

No actual counted entries IN this rank -- just plays by participants in higher levels.  So, not really much evidence to suggest that my preliminary rating needs to be changed...  And it won't really effect anything anyway since there aren't any entries by actual Beginner players.

My preliminary difficulty rating:  4 (equivalent to easy Intermediate level)

Final difficulty rating:  4 (enough 100%s to prove it isn't HARD, but I still think it is actually pretty tough for a true beginner)

    Intermediate Bass:

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Suck My Kiss

Again, only 1 participant/entry actually in this class.  Two 100% runs by high-tier folks, and then several in the low to mid 90's.  That might make my preliminary rating of 5 seem a bit low, but since there aren't any entries done by people really working hard at the song with 10+ tries or anything, I'll probably keep it there.

My preliminary difficulty rating:  5 (average Intermediate level)

Final difficulty rating:  5 (good enough)

  11. I thought the Amy Winehouse song was both fun to play and a little easier to make progress on for me so I got a better score on it that the Gotcha. I was too bored of the pattern in Naked and the hard parts with the fast fills are where I wasn't going to get much better at this week. Kept going up little by little on You Know I'm Know Good, but would miss a note here and there. But out of time for this week. Will go back to that song though, good pick!

Scores for the lead are too bad to post! I know I was hitting *most* of those chords but the game didn't agree, maybe next week! :) Someday I'll play that Johnny B. Goode song! Was so cool in the movie.

  12. I got my first 100% ever in score attack on Connection on bass (like a few others here) and am pretty happy about that. Was hovering around 99% most of the week. Muse was another story, and I can't quite get too much past 70% on that bass and without removing DD it downranks me.  I feel like that Muse song on bass was at least as hard or harder than the Billy Talent MC song a few weeks ago, but I guess they were both ranked a 7. This week was just a tough week for bass players! :)

  13. Good picks again this week! I thought about requesting a Xmas song like Darkness - Christmas Time or TSO - Wizards in Winter, but I didn't know what difficulty to rate any of those on! :) This Lennon song was a good pick! I'd played the R.E.M. a lot on lead but never on bass before this week. And took a shot at the Billy Talent song on bass since I love that song, did better than I expected. Something to practice on. I also took a shot at the beginner lead again after almost exclusively playing bass for a month. I couldn't believe I've been playing on RS for almost a year and didn't know what tremelo was, skipping that lesson in game. Couldn't figure out why my scores were so low the first few times (like in the 60s). It still is kinda low since I'm not good at it yet but learned something new! :)

  14. I think it's similar to country music. Where in the US country artists especially the more modern ones like Brantley Gilbert, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, etc will sell out huge stadiums. But they usually won't even tour in Europe, and if they did probably would only play small venues.

Sure maybe you've got some fans of American country music in Germany or Austria but I'd doubt it's very much. ;)

I think a lot of 80s rock bands (especially Melodirock) that went over "Big in Japan" were underrated in much of the rest of the world like Scorpions, Mr. Big, Night Ranger and Toto.

Though I think the most underrated band of the last 5 years is either Brother Firetribe. All of their albums are great! Diamond in the Firepit was a great surprise this year, probably in my top 5 albums of 2014.

Bands that fit into the symphonic metal genre such as Nightwish and Within Temptation.  I say this because it seems like I can't talk to anybody about these bands without getting a strange look because they've never heard of them.

NIghtwish is HUGE in Scandinavia, and Within Temptation is also a well known band here.

Yeah but I wish these bands would be well known in America.  I honestly believe these bands could sell out 10,000 seat arenas over here but they end up playing in small venues.

  15. Well, for bass, The Jack is the beginner song, and it is for sure the easier of the two. On guitar (and bass) We Got the Beat I'd agree is a 3/10 on both guitar and bass, not super bad once you get that scale up to speed. :)

@@KJParsley Well, as they say - challenge is the best tutor. Besides @ thinks it's (We Got the Beat) Beginner song, as he gave it 3/10 :P (I wouldn't be so sure :) ).

  16. I liked it a lot. I was just using the emulated bass, but am thinking about buying a real one for Christmas. There are a quite a few songs I've wanted to play the bass part on and just never tried it. Got back today and looking forward to this week. Have a few customs I that were mostly finished and just weren't put out  partially because I didn't want to put out a bad bass line/tone. ;)

    @@punchyrumble - Nice scores!!!
So how did you like bass???

  17. Hi all, looks like a great competition this week, I couldn't stay away.

At the suggestion of @@Rodman I tried out bass this week. I had to. AC/DC Moneytalks, one of my favorite songs ever was in this. (And someone also posted a CDLC of Moonage Daydream) I loved both versions of Moneytalks as well as the and the tutorial video posted. I thought the AC/DC played a little easier on bass than any of the other songs but still was a fun change. I do okay on the lead if you don't count the solo, and love hearing it. ;) Love both versions and cool that they're there. I'm out of the country next week so no streak.
