What do people think of torrent packs?

Torrent would be just a way to dl everything you can get - you'll have no updates, no feedback in the threads and the idea behind creating a custom is "fair use" and educational purposes. Converting it to file sharing would not fit into it and I don't think that you'll be tolerated.

What would be an advantage you see in providing one torrent for the cdlc?

Tolerated? I don't think he's suggesting that he might create a torrent, but rather, is asking what current authors think of other people torrenting their work.

Personally, other than being a little bummed that whoever downloads the torrent might not have the most updated version, I don't mind people re-uploading anything I make (that goes for videos I've subtitled, DTXMania drum customs I've created, anything) because those things were made to be shared. If somebody in China is playing my customs that they got from some guy, because they couldn't personally connect to customforge (just an example) or somebody in Malaysia got them from someplace else because they couldn't overcome the language barrier to get them from here, then I think that's fantastic.

It's nice to get credit for things, but if I did the projects that I've been doing for the past 10 or 15 years because I wanted direct recognition and pats on the back, then I would've quit a long time ago. My projects are consumed by a great many people, but very few ever say thanks.

That's one of the great things about this community. At least some people do let you know they appreciate your efforts.

  2. Hi all!

I don't know if everyone has heard of OMR software (optical music recognition), but there really isn't one that I'm aware of the that's 100% able to read scanned tabs. I have tried one, called Audiveris, that is about 75% accurate when scanning, in my tests with it.

    https://audiveris.kenai.com/

It's an open source program that, on the homepage, says "no tablatures yet", which leaves the possibility open that the author intends to add it.

I've posted on their forum in the past, when trying to get the program working with tab, and recently returned to their forum to see if they had made any headway. Since nothing was mentioned, I started a thread, politely requesting that they try to add tab support, and also explaining what Rocksmith was, and why tab support would be such a huge deal if they could add it. I also included my Computer Blue video, as a case for Rocksmith's success as a learning tool.

If you have the time, I would suggest stopping by my thread, and posting some friendly and polite encouragement to the program's author. You can find the thread here:

    https://kenai.com/projects/audiveris/forums/message-forum/topics/533281-Any-progress-on-Audiveris-reading-guitar-tabs-

Their forum is pretty dead and the program is relatively unknown, but it has a lot of potential (try it!) and I think any buzz we can create will hopefully help motivate the author, and make it clear that we're not just a couple guys asking for it (though that's likely exactly what we'll be! lol)

    Thanks all!

  3. Oh I didn't have time to read all those werdz, but whatever they says, I'll always be ready to help you just like you have me. :D

Edit: Ok, all caught up now. All's well. I was mostly just annoyed cos it was misleading, and made me go look sommeplace else to get the gist

    No biggie.

  4. Apparently I'd already tried that before, because that's what you asked me to do initially. To my knowledge, that's how we got that screenshot I put up. The only thing I haven't done is deleted the chord and started over, because I don't know how I will get back in that exact position. How do I do that?

Edit: It's right on the measure, so that shouldn't be a problem, but it would be good to know for future reference.

Edit 2: Deleting and re-adding it worked. I was picturing it as 2 gems with Xs and a 5 (not possible I assume?), but this will work. Thanks!

    Here's what I got:

  5. Ok, so I thought I'd been over all this before asking for help, but I went back to make sure. When I try to make the 2 strings fret hand mutes, even with open strings, it still turns the 5 into a mute and makes it Xs on all 3, just like that screenshot.

I was positive I tried everything, but I wanted to test one more time and make sure I wasn't wasting you guys' time.

Gonna poke my eye out soon.

  6.

You need to author Mute, but you authored string mute(that unsupported with fretted notes), this how this in xml should look(theoretically, I didn't tested ingame)

            <chord time="25.829" linkNext="0" accent="1" chordId="0" fretHandMute="0" highDensity="0" ignore="0" palmMute="0" hopo="0" strum="down"> <chordNote time="25.829" linkNext="0" accent="1" bend="0" fret="4" hammerOn="0" harmonic="0" hopo="0" ignore="1" leftHand="1" mute="1" palmMute="0" pluck="-1" pullOff="0" slap="-1" slideTo="-1" string="0" sustain="0.000" tremolo="0" harmonicPinch="0" pickDirection="0" rightHand="-1" slideUnpitchTo="-1" tap="0" vibrato="0"/> <chordNote time="25.829" linkNext="0" accent="1" bend="0" fret="5" hammerOn="0" harmonic="0" hopo="0" ignore="1" leftHand="3" mute="0" palmMute="0" pluck="-1" pullOff="0" slap="-1" slideTo="-1" string="1" sustain="0.000" tremolo="0" harmonicPinch="0" pickDirection="0" rightHand="-1" slideUnpitchTo="-1" tap="0" vibrato="0"/> <chordNote time="25.829" linkNext="0" accent="1" bend="0" fret="4" hammerOn="0" harmonic="0" hopo="0" ignore="0" leftHand="1" mute="1" palmMute="0" pluck="-1" pullOff="0" slap="-1" slideTo="-1" string="2" sustain="0.000" tremolo="0" harmonicPinch="0" pickDirection="0" rightHand="-1" slideUnpitchTo="-1" tap="0" vibrato="0"/> </chord>

I'm not at home right now, but it did the same thing when I tried to do a palm mute instead. Also, does that explain why the 5th fret note is muted when it isn't supposed to be?

What's the proper method to author a rake mixed with one or more fretted strings?

If it can't be done, is that a limitation of Rocksmith, or of the authoring tools?

  7. There's an interesting Q&A on the Ubisoft forum with one of the Rocksmith developers, he talks about the charting process... they call it "notetracking" there...

    http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/881083-The-Notetracking-FAQ?p=9980595&viewfull=1#post9980595

That was an interesting article. Obviously they have the budget and the manpower, but I think we do pretty well with the "1 dude + teh internets" method of "notetracking". or dudette

  8. Rubina, I would've done already if there were Guitar Pro tabs online. I have the book, but not the skill to tab it by hand.

Always, I WILL do if the person who originally did it for RS1 doesn't come out of the woodwork and reupload it soon.

Cryin' probably will never happen (or at least till I've done all the other Joe songs I'm interested it), unless there is a phenomenal GP tab of it floating around, just because I don't particularly care for The Extremist.....if I was going to do a song from that album it would be War or Why.

When I get a chance I'll see if there is a tab on songsterr. Remind me in a week, if you would please. :)

At least you didn't ask for summer sausage......man I hate that song.

  9. I guess I can't reproduce that behavior. Make sure you're authoring it along the lines of this:http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/raynebc/Partialstringmute_zps22f8c3b3.jpgKeep in mind you can't just press CTRL+X, because that changes all gems in the selected note to be string muted, you have to use the "Edit pro guitar note" (N) or "Edit frets/fingering" (F) functions to define that only some of the gems are muted.

I was doing it with N rather than F. As soon as I hit apply, it would put a "muted" check next to the 5. Sorry I wasn't more specific.

I'll make you a video real quick.

  10. Just wondering if this is by design?

I'm trying to make it so you only sound the one note, but you strum into it like a rake and hit all 3 strings (holding the 5th fret with the 3rd finger, while doing a light bar/barre with your first finger across the strings behind the note to mute them, if that helps you picture it lol), It's a Prince song, haha.

    E------

    B------

    G------

    D--X--

    A--5--

    E--X--

Whenever I try to make the 2 strings fret hand mutes, it mutes the note in the middle.

Thanks for any help you can offer. :)

Edit: Oh and the note is accented (and by extension, I suppose the chord is too....but I added the Xs after the fact))...I bet that might be a factor.
