So as promised a couple of screenshot, there is really nothing to it:

1. create or select an audio track

2. select Ext in

3. select channel 1 (i pluged my guitar to the 1st input of my audio interface)

4. arm the track (red button to say this track will record)

5. press the record button and start playing

ah and yes i put rocksmith in windowed mode to see both software.

Ok regarding the Space Oddity cover it looks like everyone is waiting for me because @ cacahuate51 and @ diceslinger forced me to do it first 😆 The problem is that I didn't have much time to try to

Hey everyone,  I'm going to take a bit of a break from the championship, hoping to come back in a few months.  I've got some minor muscle injuries in my left hand, which were not caused by playing too

Yea but wouldn't that just record the clean guitar version?  I guess looking back at the conversations I did missread it I thought someone was trying to record guitar with rocksmith tones not just a clean signal.

ah yes it would. we were talking about Mike not knowing how to record a cover. sorry for the disapointment.

I guess I am not longer your sensei! 😜

edit: i mean you most probably can record the audio from rocksmith using Audacity, but it would record everything. So you could technically start the song, pause the game, record your playing, but you would not be able to see the game moving otherwise you would record everything. Hope I'm clear...

Rhythm

I'm a bit surprised that Black Holes was harder for you. This is basically just basic chords (in partial or full), the only difficulty is frets changing. As for Star Rider, however, Rhytm should be rated a bit lower as I initially think. So I'll slightly change the ratings to 3.5 for Black Holes and 5 for Star Rider.

I think it's because I see split chords like that and freak out whilst Star Rider is more just lead which works better with my style since I enjoying playing Maiden and Metallica. Horses for Courses (British for different people are suited to different things)

ah no problem! I actually dont have any amps either, and didnt like using my interface for recording guitars cause it would always delay so much that it made recording guitars 10x harder ( i got that fixed though) so i used rocksmith cable on my daw for most of my time.

Download Reaper:
 https://www.reaper.fm/download.php
You'll be using the free trial version which last 60 days ( seems like its 60 days mins only count if you have it open but emmy also claimed its like winrar once the trial runs out you can still use it, i still havent reached that time so idk i only downloaded it cause it is used for the drop pitch in rocksmith, stilll havent learnt but wanna try to figure out this week)

setting it up- press ctrl p or options preferences make sure audio system is direct sound. ( other drivers might be more beneficial but this is how i got the cable to work)

Now you need to add a track (this will be where you record guitars) press ctrl t. Select the red dot button to tell the daw that you want to use that track to record and now press ctrl R and strum away (assuming you nhave your guitar connected with the rocksmith cable)

whats cool about reaper is if you keep ctrl r it it wont over write the guitar audio instead itll put it in a different lane this way you can slice the best takes. I think ableton also added that feature but you have to press some buttons so this is more intuitive i might use it lmao. This is usually refered as comping.

ok but what about amps?

theres lots of free ones.
id recommend guitar rig player 7
 https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/guitar/guitar-rig-7-player/?srsltid=AfmBOooLNg3T8UEEfv-wW76RI5LXsL0mS2Uw-6kpcJfRaT599fkrMVeG
if you download the komplete start bundle it will also give you other virtual instruments that are neat
if you want a delay plugin:
Replika that comes with the komplete start bundle is great! also Raum (reverb plugin) is fantastic

Valhalla supermassive is neat
https://valhalladsp.com/shop/reverb/valhalla-supermassive/?srsltid=AfmBOooXtFy47I6fBkL3p3VfVXDDuPPNq2REXSgoqjEcETz-dRhkoeqZ
or
deelay can get you some wonky results cause theres a randomizer button which always makes stuff fun imo
https://sixthsample.com/deelay/

once you download one or all when you record a guitar track in reaper all you need to do is select fx button and then find the vst

what about drums?
theres free ones aswell
id reccomend spitfire, SSD or just any yt video

Hi cacahuate51

Just wondering being a mac user too, do you use anything Mac based on your tracks? I use Bias FX 2, Logic/Garage Band, thats about as far as my knowledge goes.

I don't want to spam but I'm on fire this week!!! 🥵🔥

But I think I took on too hard to chew on with the lead of Black Holes: I'm just too slow to get in position for this G chord! And my left wrist is a little sore, that's a good sign, right? 😅

Bias FX 2 is on sale at the moment... is it worth the money from your experience?

I got the Elite Package for £39 or 504.90 Swedish Krona.  Though there was a bug on there system and an pricing error so I got everything stupidly cheap around 2 to 3 years ago. It you are aware of Positive Grid then they make good budget software, plenty of cloud support so you can download other guitar players setups. I'm not sure how it works on PC, but on Mac I plug it in it works and I'm more than happy and has VST support so I can have it in DAW's. Failing this, I would recommend a Valeton GP200, very good budget physical pedal and you can use it as an audio interface to plug into your computer. I'm no expert.

I use Bias FX on PC and while I got it thinking I could customize stuff like crazy, really I use presets a lot and tweak them.  The Celestion speaker collection punches above its weight, they sound better than the other speakers in Bias.

I havent posted a track cover though yet? 🤔 😅

But yep!
So basically all the software I mentioned after reaper has a mac install. These are 3rd party software (usually virtual instruments or fx such as delay reverb distortion etc ) made to be used in any DAW (logic, garageband, reaper ableton flstudio blabla).

I have admitdley not used my mac in years but when i used it I had them installed on it. There are very few windows only vsts infact i cant really think of one that i use that is not on a mac.

I would also strongly advise to check what comes with your DAW as they  can be quite usefull and you generally dont need anything else.  The gui might not be pretty but dont let that discourage you from using it, cause they can usually make just as good as results. Vsts can be a rabbithole in that sense cause sometimes they are the same thing just with a different skin/ image but i still have fun downloading freebies lol.

Logic in particular has some great synthesizers (loved alchemy) , amps and famous emulated compressors such as the FET . Overall really solid daw especially since you can manually auto tune voices in it.  I believe breathe carolina made their first albums using only garage band (basically the intro version of logic)  sounds and then you got more popy people like disclosure, billy eilsh and her brother magdalena bay etc but they usually combine 3rd party plugins aswell.

Interestingly enough i just searched songs made in garage band and apparently the hand that feeds by NIN was made on there lol.

Anyways, never tried BIAS but looks great !! im sure you'll be able to get some great stuff with it!

Remember its not about the gear but how you use it 🙂 (and if you have time try to read manuals, watch yt videos, or lookup artists you like as they might have some production posts and experiment /mess around is always fun imo )

Do you use reaper with Rocksmith like the PC users do to help with tracking.

Oooh no, not yet I'm still learning aswell, the only daw I have real experience with /recorded/made "songs" is ableton. I do have friends that use logic so that's why I know a little bit of it cause I've had to use it when collaborating with them and I also had it on my mac so I've used it a bit.

I reccomended reaper cause of the free trial which seems to never expire according to users aka Emmy and confirmed by Daz. So its basically a free daw  ehich is great for windows users since windows doesnt come with a daw.  And cause it is used in the tutorial on how to use a drop pitch in rocksmith. Basically when you install it it comes with virtual cables that are nesecarry for it to work.

In the end DAWS are like pizzas. Sure you might get a different type from papa John's than dominoes, pizza hutt or a local pizza place. But at the end it's still a pizza. So again doesn't matter the daw as long as you learn it/are only trying to record a song.

Some macs come with atleast garage band already INSTALLED and sometimes logic aswell which in those cases it's up to you which daw to pick to record a song. All are good though.

I tried hard to make this one. The song isn't actually hard. But I can't catch it. Again and again. And on and on.

I have a callus on my index finger again, although I thought it was already hardened!
