Hey everyone, Ska has been one of my favorite genres for awhile now, and some of my favorite songs incorporate a ska strumming pattern. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get that strumming technique down for those smaller chord shapes you see on many songs, i.e Rancid's "Old Friend" and Goldfinger's "Superman" ? I can do that muted downstroke when it is a full barre chord, but it seems like a more precise method when only the G, B and high E strings are being played - hope this makes sense! Thanks in advance

So what are the "must" haves? What does a good warm-up have to include? Are there any simple songs which are a simple and fun way to get things moving? (i.e songs with minimal chords, simple fingering, etc')How long does your warm-up take? Exercise routine: What are the essential exercises that must be done every time (perhaps as part of the warm-up?)What exercises should be done less oftenAfter playing: What's the best way to finish a playing session?Cheers!

I played guitar in my teens and early twenties and then took 40 years off. I'm 64 now and have been playing drums for about four years and am the drummer at church. On drums, I can listen to most any song and play along. But, I am not able to do that with guitar. (I'm just starting to play bass - so the jury is still out there.) A little over a year ago, I got back into guitar and found that I can still play a bunch of chords and can read most simple music to play a song. But, what I can't do now (and couldn't do 40 years ago) is play along with a song. Without music, I don't know what to play. What does one need to do to be able to what I can do on drums: listen to a …

Hi I tried playing this awesome song (both to play and listen) I couldn't help but wonder if the last bit of the dlc is right? The "last solo" if you will. Either there is a backing guitar which isn't "playable" running at the same time or notes are offset? Anyone got to try this an explain? Is it just 2 guitars doing the same thing at an offset?

Hello everyone, I have been practicing tuning my guitar with songs that I play along with, but I have always wondered if there is a way to get the tuning pitch or frequency of the tuning? I'm not very good with music terminology so a lot of this may not make sense. Cheers, Mazza.

I've posted an earlier version of this previously - though not in it's own topic. Maybe it will help someone; I use it as a desktop wallpaper.. Basically it's all the notes on a Fretboard (EStd tuning). I thought the ones I could find online were, well, a bit crap - so I did my own. This is updated with a higher res, scales and a graphic.. Update... v7 Changed background to Black. Shouldn't blind you anymore.. :) Previous one is in same public folder.. Cheers, H Link to reversed image (with low E at top and high e at bottom). Right click and 'view original' to get high res version. https://www.dropbox.com/s/32b3a7xy4yye42c/FretBoard%20NP%20V5flip.jpg?dl=…

I am just starting out and there is such an amazing selection of music on the CDLC database. Although when I start it up its at 100% from the start of the song. Does any CDLC work like the official music with the dynamic difficulty?

i love the way it sounds! but i also here alot of other strings being hit aswell, and its hard to miss them because A and G are inbetween other strings and also you have D right in the middle and can get in the way sometimes. how do i just make sure im strumming these strings and not hitting any others? and by strumming i mean up and downstrokes, thanks for your help if none of that makes sense: avenge sevenfold: afterlife, while they sing the hook of this song (i dont belong here we gotta move on here, escape from this afterlife) while hes singing this if your playing lead, your playing the part im trying to get help to mastering

Hi there, Self teaching guitar here and I have a question regarding the #5 chords ie. F5, G5, C5 etc... In RS they are always shown as using 3 fingers (1-2&3) however with finger 2 I can cover the string and forgo the 3rd finger. Is it ok to continue with 2 fingers or as I progress will that become a problem?

  16. Today I'm proud to announce that we will be offering a cool and special feature here at CustomsForge. This was actually recommended from a few members here and I want to thank you for the idea. We're going to launch this section in the future and have special CDLC's that will help you learn new guitar techniques. From anywhere from guitar scales to playing the bass quickly with your fingers, we will try to help you master ways to learn the guitar. Each CDLC will feature Dynamic Difficulty so you can begin at a steady pace and work your way up. We still have to figure out how we're going to do this but this is definitely something I am interested in doing. If you have a…

  17. I usually play acoustic guitar, but I' recently gotten an electric for my birthday and finally I can play Rocksmith well. I never have problems with calluses anymore, but there's this thing that's extremely annoying. From putting too much pressure on the strings with my fretting hand (Usually on the acoustic), I get this weird stinging sensation in my fingertip when touching anything. It's a sharp pain that kind of feels like something like glass, or a splinter is stuck in there. Does it have a name? This time I really tried to be careful and stop playing before I felt it would happen, but it came totally out of nowhere, and I didn't even press that hard. Yes, I realise…

Hi there, I don't know if it's the right place to ask this. Lately, I've been playing a lot of tracks on my bass with RS2014, and it turns out I like playing latin songs more and more each time. Thing is, it's not the type of music I usually listen to, and so my knowledge of artists and songs is quite limited. I've been playing mostly Santana songs, but I wonder if anyone could help me find other tracks to play in the CDLC database - since there is no 'genre' research available, I'm quite stuck here. I know it has nothing to do with Rocksmith but I'm also a trombone player and I'd love to practice bass (and trombone, but that's something I'll have to do on my own) in …

  19. Hey All, Just want to say what an awesome site this is!! I think I must have downloaded over 300 songs. I know I'll be very busy for a loooong time. With that said, what would be the recommendation for a true beginner to start out on Rocksmith? I know about 4-5 chords fairly well. I haven't really had a lot of time to practice and play since I got my guitar and RS last x-mas. I plan to change that soon. So, for a beginner do you recommend that I start playing rhythm to start and get the basics down, or can I still learn enough if I choose Lead? I'm finding the lack of a guided system to be a bit frustrating. I think I would learn better with some structure and laid out …

Hi. I have been making some bass cover videos on YouTube and putting tabs for the song. I play all songs in standart tuning and try to make the bassline close to the original but also interesting and easy to remember/play(since it's so hard and pointless to play all the notes exactly like the bassist did on the recording). Maybe I will do some lessons about bass and musical theory applied to it, if anybody is interested... So this is my YouTube channel: youtube.com/user/MysteriousBassBoy I would also recommend this site for learning bass, as it helped me a lot years ago, now it looks like it's has some paid lessons put I think there's still lots of good stuff for free…

Hi, I'm 23 years old, i have been playing quite excessively guitar for 1 year now, i'm taking lessons from a private teacher ( very good teacher IMO ) 1 hour /week, i play some rocksmith when i have the time and i'm trying to get some songs down on my own. I can see, feel and hear i'm improving alot every day. When i go to concerts small or big doesn't matter, it seems so natural for the lead singer to play and sing at the same time and even most of the other guitarist also do some backing vocals or sing along. And this seems not to affect their playing skills. So i'm kinda worried there is something wrong with my brain, it feels like it can not handle the 2 things …
