I’d thought I’d ask this…. Overtime I’ve noticed my playing is getting worse not as quick and responsive. I don’t know if it’s the Guitar and the RGT1221 isn’t right for me and might look at a AZ2402. But I’ve only mainly played Rocksmith not practising outside of the weekly songs and I think why my playing is going downhill, outside of the Championship how do you guys sharpen your skills?

I do a training routine every day, doing every technique and scales at different speeds, using 4/4, 6/4 and other timings. The real progress comes from the boring things.

Have a nice musweek everyone!

Electric Callboy - Elevator Operator. Hard for novices.

Deftones - Ohms. Hard for novices.

Alestorm - Hangover. Low tuning messes it.

Atreyu - Becoming The Bull. I like the album. And song it cool. But played terrible. I can't in palm mutes.

The Black Dahlia Murder - What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse. Nice riff. But hard. Go uplevel they said (last week)...

Children Of Bodom - If You Want Peace... Prepare For War. Could be better? No it couldn't.

Make a list of what you want to practice and split your practice time between these things, and stick to them for a while

Pfew.... i am going to write a not too long answer.

Even if you feel that way - i guarantee your playing is not getting worse while practicing - you might raise the barn yourself as you get more aware about errors technically and also listening to your playing. You might get better slowly, but you basically cannot stop your progress as you play focused...

There are 2 very different sides of practicing

- the one is thinking about what you want to achieve, sitting in front of YT vids, guitar pro files or also training the things a real life coach told you in your last lesson. That is basically hard work and in greater parts the opposite of fun. If you focus on that kind of guitarwork exclusively you are likely to let go, first stop practicing daily, develope pausing for the one week or the other and eventually put your instrument away on the long term. I am not trying to disencourage you or being rude in anyway but i do not know anyone (except professionals like Bernthi) who have kept up that on the long run. There is reason for that.. even when you chose the stony way there .... it´s way stony 🙂 progress is very very slow, you are not talking days or weeks.

- the other is just playing your class in the Championships. The very easy way. You don´t have to think what to play, get a nice community and heavy motivation with your spot competing in the leaderboards and your calculated XP level increasing over time. Since i joined here i have been constantly working on and thiking about how to motivate us players to be driven to keep coming back moreless every other day, and for quite a lot of players that is working well. And you are getting better. Also usually very very slowly but without hard work and already doing what is fun - playing songs. The problem for really learning to play there is RS itself - by being very very forgiving in timing and by failing to show the rhythm pattern (i was trying to figure out a way to show the rhythm structure of CDLCs in an extra window while the song is playing for years, failed and decided to learn to read it as good as possible the way RS shows it) and it doesn´t really force you to work on sections - small sections with many notes (like solos) can be played over just doing a bit what could be on screen there  somehow and depending on #of notes in the whole song will not be a probelm in the overall SongAcc %. Third the mixing of the guitartone by default is incredibly low-volume in contrast to the bg song playing - so it does normally NOT annoy you to play totally wrong as long there are not too many misses... Those 3 points lead to you get better in finding the right spot for your fingers, you get better in switching chords but you do not get payd by being able to just play songs OFF RS, or in other words please record your guitar/bassplaying playing along your CS-song of the week and then listen to it without the background. I recommend you sit down before pressing play. Have fun. That is why i started to re-challenge everyone interrested here to go for coversidechallenge. It´s a small hurdle to take to start with it cause you cannot only plug and play but there you get payd for your efforts by really playing a song(part), you can start with easy songs with only a few chords getting used to stick to the rhythm. You also learn songs to be able to just play them when a guitar is lying around somewhere (my main goal - after 10 years of the CS i could not play one song by heart, now since Jan 25 around 10).

But the one way does not exclude the other - why not participate in the CS maintaining the fun and on top of that establishing a practice routine for goals and weaknesses!?

What you really really need to do is make sure you eliminate pure technical errors in holding the pick, placing your fingers and your thumb and your picking hand technique. There is not the one right technique, but if you go through YT for an hour you´ll likely have what´s good for you (also a bit dependent of what playing style you focus on more rhythmstrumming or more shredding eg)... that - you can then focus on playing whatever you are just playing and that will improve your playing a lot without a lot of effort. Keep in mind correcting your hand/fingerpositions will take 4-6 weeks until its the new natural way to go for your hands/fingers/muscles.

Not too long i hope. Thinking.

Rod.

Great advice! Really resonates with me. What I discovered recently is that I can play "well" in Rocksmith reading the charts but I cannot play at the same level reading a tab (which I thought I could 🤣 ). So now I'm trying to also practice songs in songsterr to improve my playing against a tab. Also discovered that the tempo in Rocksmith and Songsterr are slightly different (or the songs are slightly different 🤷‍♂️ )

Yes! See my signature.

I am gonna add @ Daz40 s exercises there also if it's ok with him so we have a place with the resources.

I have a lot of more exercises coming up, just gonna improve on the actual ones a bit more, flooding is dangerous also maybe there.

So what is shredfest? its a twitch rocksmith streaming event that happens i believe every year? anyone can sign up to play a set of one band or you can just watch the streamers play. If you want to show some support go ahead and check it out 🙂 i think the event helps towards a charity but dont mark my words for that lol.

Contestant @ RaZrShReD  will be performing on sunday at 3pm so make sure to stop by and watch some of it 🙂

thank you for the SHREDFEST 14 themed week and the shoutout,  it is very much appreciated bro! the set was great even though on short notice and without much prep it was a lot of fun to be part of and play some of my favorite mastodon tunes, will post the VOD once its up!

Just for fun, everyone saying they are getting worse.. proof we could be a little more forgiving of our performance! Expectations vs. reality 😅😅

Yup this is why im usually not a fan of rock concerts and try to avoid them like the plague. I'll just stick to the cds/ streaming thanks xD.
There are some exceptions like festivals (cause there are so many performances that a good one can erase my memory of a bad one) or a handfull that sound better live than on cd but those are rare.
