  2. Ok, I don't see this topic in either the Gear Garage or the Off-Topic list. I hope this is not a repeat. I have an opportunity to buy a new bass, and am looking for ideas. I know the types I have wanted over the years, but I want some ideas before I spend the $$$. I am looking for either a 5 or 6 string. So, what type and what model would you get if you could buy any bass?

I'm using a cheap Peavey guitar to learn on and I noticed it just seems as if actually using the guitar could be easier. The strings have to be pressed fairly hard in order to get a clean sound and the higher notes on the bottom strings need to be plucked really hard to get anything. Is that kind of standard? Thanks!

I've located a yamaha rbx 765a or was it 756a, also an ibanez sr305 from 08. I've played the current sr305 and it was awesome. Does anyone have experience with the yamaha? I'm curious about their necks Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk

  5. As title, A lot of people (and the manual) on the net seem insistent that you need to have a cabinet attached to the Marshall JMD50 Guitar Amp Head in order to use it or it will blow the amp/headphones. This is the amp: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Marshall-JMD50-50W-Guitar-Amp-Head/MJ6 Can you not just use it with a pair of headphones? I bought it as it was a bargain and I wont be able to buy a cab till christmas, just wanted to clear it up weather or not I'll be able to use it with just a pair of headphones?? Cheers tris

Hi I play guitar for two years now. My biggest difficulty are barre chords. I can play them flawlessly, but after 1 or 2 minutes of a song that consists of barre chords my right hand ( I am a lefty) starts aching and my playing gets inaccurate. I think the pressure of my finger on the fretboard is too high, but if I try to play more relaxed Rocksmith refuses to recognize the chord.Anyone else with the same problem or any hint for resolving this? Thx

Just wondering what bands you've been in or are in at the moment..? I was in a dodgy Punk band from 94 to 96, The Exiles From Pluto (lol). Did a few gigs but left because they weren't interested in doing them that much. They just saw it as a way of getting away from their wives/girlfriends during practice lol. There was a guy that was doing a sound engineering course who gave us free studio time to use our recordings as his end of year project. Here's a link to the set list Favourites amongst the people that used to see us were Alien, Where The Fields Are Green, I Lay You To Rest and Take Me To Your Leader, which was our finale. Our first gig we played in front of…

  11. Hello people, My girlfriend's got a (not Fender) P-bass pretty cheap, and it hadn't got any pickups. So I told her I could try and wire it for her, if she buys some pickups. Her dad then bought pickups without a brand or whatsoever, and after checking wiring diagrams I don't think they can be wired into the bass, but I'm not sure. I've got some pictures of the Pickups: http://i.imgur.com/Zfo33oJ.jpg As you see, the blue wire is the connection of the elements, then there's the yellow wire to connect to the volume control, but all pickups and wire diagrams I've seen have another wire also going to the volume control. My girlfriend's dad says it should work by cutti…

Hello I'm currently learning to play on an encore strat styled electric guitar that i piked up for £30 2nd hand. It'd pretty tatty and when my brother brought round his les paul styled electric i found it a fair bit nicer to play. I tend to get moaned at when using riff repeater on some songs as it's repating the same bit so was thinking of getting semi acoustic. The one that i like is the epiphone es 335 dot which seems to get good reviews: http://www.musicradar.com/reviews/guitars/epiphone-es-335-dot-213412 This is in my budget (£300 max), i am a big oasis fan so seems great for that as i can use it for the accoustic parts (may not sound perfect but hey ho im not grea…

  13. every time I get some cash in my pocket, the idea of a 5 string bass comes into my mind. Currently I only own my 4 string BC Rich warlock Platinum series. though I have been looking around for a good 5 string that wont kill my back account. Any suggestions? (for reference currency is CAD) for 500 I found this, through reviews talk about the Open B on a standard chromatic tuning to be off and there is fret buzz, but im used to Fret buzz from my current BC rich. http://www.stevesmusic.com/guitars-and-basses/basses/esp-b-155dx-see-through-blue

So I noticed these new strings on the racks I never seen before.. the nice girl at the guitar center said they were new.. last time I got strings a few months ago, they weren't there. Apparently they are brand new. Called M-Steel Earnie Ball's, According to the back of the package, they have 60 percent more cobalt in them then their cobalt line of strings. They were 2 bucks more then the cobalts as well. So thought I would give them a shot. Was in the market for some thicker strings for lower tunings. I got 11/48s. My impression, they rock. Especially on the wound strings, a MUCH better tone out of them then even my old cobalts, I recommend giving them a try.

Hey guys, this could be a stupid question but please bare with me. I'm wanting to record myself playing some stuff on guitar as I feel it'll help me improve. (I sometimes struggle to hear my guitar over the actual parts in Rocksmith) Now, normally I'd connect my guitar to the pc via a cable with connects directly to the line in and the other end, obviously, goes to the guitar. However, you really don't get very high levels doing it that way so recording is pretty much impossible. What I'm wondering is, could I connect that cable into the 'Output' jack of my amp, connecting my guitar to the amp as usual and using the amp as a sort of middle man? I could always try, b…

Is there a way I can plug some kind of USB controller (Like a xbox 360 controller or any USB device with a Button on it) and use it as a Tone switch pedal in Reaper? What I want to do for example is have an Xbox controller on the floor that I can tap with my foot to change tones within reaper. Anybody know anyway I can achieve SOMETHING like this? pretty envious that I don't own any pedals & can't play songs that require a tone switch mid song. Thanks!!!

Hello CF world. Long story short. I cant go to a guitar center to pick out my guitar and have to trust in the word of others. I posted before but I think I have finally decided on a guitar to step up to from my Squire Strat. Can anyone please tell me... does anything stand out about this guitar as being not worth the price? Are the pickups decent and all that god stuff? I am needing that 24th fret and I figure I might as well get a mid grade guitar over my 60 dollar used Squire. Ok I cant paste for some reason... its an Ibanez GRG270DXB The other I was thinking of is the RGD320 Which is tuned to D standard rather than E standard. I play more drop D and D standar…

Hey guys, been thinking to buy myself a new guitar and this has gotten my attention. Does anyone have the same guitar or any experience of it, i'm mostly interested of the neck shape and how it's compared to let's say Gibson SG which is really easy to play. I like this fast necks and in this LTD it seems to be U-shaped thin neck, my current main guitar is Schecter devil-6 with C-shaped neck and it's really good rhythm guitar. The guitar in the link differs from my choice that i want Seymour Duncan JB ( B ) / ’59 (N) p.u. pickups or would it perhaps be better to go with EMG ones as at the end my preferred music style is metal based. All the info is welcome and other re…

So apart from a new guitar is there anyway to sort out a rounded out allen bolt hole in the head of the guitar as my string action is at places 5mm off the fret board and its starting to annoy me in playing and enjoying playing, The previous owner must have ruined it at some point. :(

I'm about to re-string my guitar for the first time and as a beginner I was going to follow the video that is in Rocksmith 2014. However, after looking on youtube there seems to be more than one way to re-string a guitar! So my question is how do you do yours? If possible an instructional video would be welcomed :) Thanks.

  23. Hey everybody. I have only been playing for 2 months but, being a gadget guy and loving to get new stuff, I keep finding guitars to drool over. My latest obsession: PRS guitars. I went to a GC yesterday to get some lemon oil for my 1st ever restringing of a guitar (my Gibson SGJ), and while I was there, I played 2 S2 Custom 24's, a S2 Mira, a SE Santana, and a used SE Custom 22. Of those, the 22 felt the best to me for playing, the Mira was the best to hold (so light! so nice!), and the 24 is the most beautiful. My question is this: I have been reading online to try to find differences between the SE and S2 series, and I only seem to be able to find comparisons between th…

  24. So I'm building my own V guitar, and going to order a custom Floyd bridge, but there are a couple things that confuses me. First is the block, the list consists of brass, tungsten steel, stone and titanium and the sizes from 32mm up to 42mm. What is the pros/cons of each material, and size, and ultimately, which should I get? The other thing that confuses me is the nut size, that is listed from R1 up to R10, I going to take a guess that those are just varying sizes, and I did measure the nut shelf at 1'11/16s (if I remember correctly) So, if anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Thank you :D

Hi I'm getting settle for rocksmith 2014 and in couple weeks I am going to buy my first guitar ever. I currently play nothing, and know barely nothing about guitars. Many people told me, one of the best electric guitar to start with is the Ibanez GRX20 http://www.samash.com/ibanez-grx20-electric-guitar-igrx20 The price makes me happy also I also found the blue color really cool. About my budget, I'd say is about $100-170, and the kind of music I wanna play, wel,l kind of like any type of rock. I enjoy most of the library of the guitar hero series and rocksmith aswell. I will not buy an amp/pedal. I intend to plug my guitar only on an PC, most to play rocksmith…
