Since this weekend SHRED FEST XIV is happening i decided to take songs from the lineup. There were lots of bands to choose from and sadly not all could make it but hopefully this is a decent amount of

And now the moment @drand has evidently been waiting for!

This was a great week for me, all of these songs are right up my alley so I had a great time.

Been a while since I've given Deftones a good listen, didn't even know this album had come out so this was a pleasant surprise. A good beginner song, riff offers a good timing challenge that's not too tough but does need a bit of concentration to nail.

As always, here's a few to get you started if you want to hear more:

1. My Own Summer (Shove It)

2. Passenger - MJK from Tool does great guest vocals on this one

3. Change (In the House of Flies)

4. Engine No. 9

5. Diamond Eyes

I mentioned a few weeks back when I submitted my Black Sails At Midnight score that I preferred heavier Alestorm rather than the newer party one, playing this one pretty much solidified that opinion. That's not to say that I hated it, I did enjoy playing it, but when you compare it to their older stuff it's a difference of night and day. Anyway, enough of my old man ramblings, just gonna copy my suggestions from a few weeks back in case anyone missed them!

1. Captain Morgan's Revenge

2. Huntmaster

3. Over the Seas

4. Mexico (purely because the music video is great!)

Now we're talking! Atreyu were/still are one of the best metalcore bands out there but they definitely seem to fly under the radar and don't get the recognition they deserve. This is a great song to play especially once you get hooked into the rhythm of the main riff; this happened to me to the point where I kept forgetting that it gets a little bit shreddy at the end! @drand got in before me with some of the suggestions so credit goes to them for two of the songs!

1. Bleeding Mascara - absolute monster of a song, that sweeping intro was and still is incredible

2. Ex's and Oh's

3. Right Side of The Bed

4. The Crimson

5. Untitled Finale

6. You Were the King, Now You're Unconscious

7. Insatiable

8. Ain't Love Grand

9. Demonology and Heartache

10. Lip Gloss and Black

The Black Dahlia Murder is a band that has long been on my to-do list and this song bumped them up to the top of that very list. What a workout, that chorus string skipping is such a satisfying test of stamina. Unfortunately no suggestions for these guys but I'll make up for it with the next band.

Are You Dead Yet? was my first COB album and listening to any of the songs always brings me back to simpler times of playing the original Gears of War and just blasting that album on repeat! Alexi Laiho was an absolute beast of a guitarist with a truly unique style of playing, gone far too soon.

This song itself is mental! Not gonna lie, most of that opening run on the C string was just a spray and pray on my end but that melody in the chorus was great fun once I got my head around it.

I'm having to limit myself to 10 songs here but they also have a lot of great covers, Skeletons in My Closet is just an album dedicated to silly metal covers of (mostly) non-metal songs.

1. Hate Me - courtesy of @drand!

2. Silent Night, Bodom Night

3. Hate Crew Deathroll

4. Blooddrunk

5. Are You Dead Yet?

6. Next In Line

7. Mask of Sanity

8. Under Grass and Clover

9. Tie My Rope

10. Needled 24/7

Great week everyone, best of luck!
