SIDE CHALLENGE - Let´s COVER some [26]

Rules? No rules! We pick a song and everybody is invited to share his version. Songs shall be called every week, if you don´t manage to nail your version within the week - entrances are ALWAYS welcome. No winners, no losers, just fun and personal progress, a bit bringing in the harvest of the hard work we all do here every week by converting to own produced music, and (for me very important) learning (easy versions) of songs to be able to play them anytime when a guitar is in the room - and that shall be a part of thinking on the next song selection maybe.

Everyone who has not finished his cover - just post whenever ready in the running week (yes, this one) so we all will recognise it.

I don't have any advice on the bass selection, and not sure if this even qualifies as relationship advice.  A few weeks ago my wife was waiting for me in the car while I popped into Guitar Center as I

Here comes. Was no hard decisicon for me what to choose. Always loved that song.
I decided to do a very small acoustic version. So started with one guitar line. Captured by 2 mics, one small diapgragm pointing to 12th fret, a large one pointing to the body right of the soudhole - those got panned to the very right and left.
For the arrangement - for i wanted to do a sad version of course i decided to skip the 2nd chorus and go right into the dramatic themed part. I transposed from Emaj to Dmaj to not have to use a capo and also this is way high enough to sing along for me. Rather happy with the guitar. Sang along then and added a very short 2nd vocal mimicing a guy living unther the bridge joining in in the themed part.
As i recorded with metronome i added a somehow distracting afro-trip-ambient drum line that really gave a smile in the mix.
That took rather long. One hour of getting tabs together and arrange, half an hour of practice the parts yd and good 3 hours today.

Don´t be gentle on me.

Rod.

So here is my cover...

Listen at your own risk... There is no auto-tune and I experimented a lot with multiple tracks... 🤣

Still hope to get above 99%...

Funny week on my end, went from having all the time in the world to having none at all so only got playing these songs on Sunday. Still though, interesting mix, some stuff I wouldn't normally listen to but I enjoyed them.

Hadn't heard this one before but was a good beginner song.

When I first saw the name I thought I didn't know the song but a little bell went off in my head as soon as I heard it. Really good song for learning chord shapes and playing the corresponding arpeggios, will probably go back to this one and use it as a good chord warm up

Now this was the only song I actually knew well, used to love BFMV back in the day. Unfortunately they suffered a dip in terms of the songs they were putting out, felt they became a weird mix of screamo/hair metal post Fever. The first two albums were both masterpieces though and this song is quality. Plenty of string skipping and economy picking going on in this song, great fun to play. I actually have some songs to recommend as well, only one of this week!

1. Scream Aim Fire

2. The Poison

3. Waking the Demon

4. Your Betrayal

5. Knives

As Homer Simpson once said: "Brilliant. I have absolutely no idea what's going on..."

Didn't get a chance to run through Alestorm again, hopefully I will before the weeks out.

Best of luck everyone!

Dumb question do guitar picks get old? 🤔

I think it depends. I have some picks that had a pretty sharp tip but it has worn away over time. On the other hand, I have a few picks that I have been using for many years and they don't wear out, mostly the thicker ones.

@ Mikson  getting me to put the work into this song!! was fun 😄
I must say thicker strings would probably benefit me on this song or any in drop c for accuracy cause i felt like alot of the times it wasnt regestering.
