Therefore, it seems always much better to play the drop-D version...

Where can I find the Drop D version? 😮

Hi!!! 🤟🤩

I "created" that version myself with the CustomForge Song Manager. You select the song and then you go to the Custom Mods tab and select the "Pitch Shifter", which creates a new version of the song in E standard or Drop-D, depending the case. The thing is that, if you do that, you have to play the song with earphones, because otherwise you will hear the dissonance.

Anyway, you can find here the Drop-D versions I "created", my friend:

version 1.5

version 1.6

just a couple of new runs before the week closes, mild improvements

Question for the bass players:  My four-string bass setup doesn't really work if I try to tune below Drop D.   Just curious whether people playing tunings like D drop C on a tuned down 4-string, or a tuned-up five string?   Thanks in advance for sharing your advice, and thanks for the opportunity to participate here!

It's possible that you have quite thin strings on your bass, on my 4-string bass I have no problems with tuning to D Std/D drop C, it's only when the tuning is really low that I start having problems.

A little better in the Drop D version, but this is probably my limit.

The next championship week will start rather late, so I will give a warning about an hour before the start.

I also got a new guitar I hadn't have the chance to play, so I am very excited!

String size is one thing, the other is the length of the bass in general - some work better with low tunings/some don't

But usually you should be able to do drop d easily with "normal" ones, everything below I would increase the size atleast 1 per half or full step

I use the same cheapo 4-string bass on tunings ranging from E to C std. With the same strings. Granted, when I'm in C I need to remember to use less force with the right hand, but usually I can play no problem.

Depending on you situation there might be 2 main reasons for the problem:
A. Fret buzz - a looser string moves a bit wider while vibrating. If it starts to hit the frets 'too much' it becomes a problem. You might want to raise the action a bit then. Neck relief might also be a factor in this.
B. Bad intonation - ideally on a well tuned instrument the note on the 12th fret should be EXACTLY the same as an empty string, just an octave higher. It might be off just enough that RS registers it correctly when in standard tuning, but misses it when dropped. There's a ton of videos on how to fix your intonation on youtube.
C. A mix of the above. A properly setup bass shouldn't have a problem with drop D. Unless it's a weird electronics issue, but that's unlikely imo.

A lot of players here use some kind of pitch shifter pedal instead of retuning. Pitch shifting the song with the song manager is also allowed. More of a bandaid than a solution for your problem, but still might be useful.
