Hi there! I am Saka and I have an important question regarding EOF ( It's BPM specifically) if anyone can answer. 

 

So, What I'm trying to do; Sync Lead, Rhythm, and Bass arrangements up.

 

What was accomplished; I've Synced the starting note for all arrangements at the beginning and up to 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through.

 

Problem; When I change the ending BPM to a faster beat after slowing the beat down for the last BPM change, the notes are cutoff for going off-track/ending of song. So far I've tried almost every possible combination to get around this 'cut' but it ends up happening either way or the notes do not end up being on the right beat.

 

Question; Could someone care to explain or if there is anyway at all around this situation as I've transcribed 27 CDLC so far but this bands (Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas) Tempo specifically constantly changes which makes it all the more harder to comprehend at times.

I'm not sure what the best way to deal with this is, but usually when something like that happens I just re-import the GP tab (so for various reasons i may re-import a lot). So usually I sync, re-importing when necessary but not making many changes to the tab (unless it's something that affects the sync, like a wrong time signature. And if I do make changes, it's to the GP, not in EoF for now), until I get to the very end. Then when I'm happy with the sync for the tracks, I start making the tweaks to the tab: sustain lengths, pitched vs. unpitched slides (and for pitched slides, whether they should be linknext-ed), switching notes between strings if there are illogical jumps, fixing wrong notes, and so on.

 

The most complex song that I've synced this way is Mother Man (the first song on this album. I'll need some time to work on the guitar parts, but I hope to release it somewhat soon!). It's not The Dance of Eternity, but it's still really complex rhythmically.

Glad to hear that it helped out a bit! It's a bit of a pain, but it seems like re-imports are the simplest way to deal with things that don't look the way that they should. Weird things also occasionally happen with transitions between x/8 and y/4 time signatures and vice versa, where the tempo halves or doubles sometimes (recent versions have gotten better at handling these, but they're still not always perfect the first time through).

 

And yeah, Mother Man was a bit of a pain, but the syncing's pretty good now. The problem now is that when I added measures and adjusted time signatures every so often I made adjustments (note shifts and copying things over) in the bass track but forgot to do the corresponding adjustments in the guitar parts, so now I need to remember/figure out what notes I need to shift and copy over there. But I have a working bass-only version at the moment that I played through and took a video of. It's hard in a good way!

As far as I can tell, your problem boils down to one of 3 possible causes:

1. you didn't check the "adjust notes" box when changing your BPM. This would cause the notes to not self adjust to the new BPM you've chosen

2. Your beat map has an incorrect sync or different time signature than the tab you're using. Are your notes still grid snapped on the beats all the way until the end? If not, you may want to import the GP file again and then follow #1 when adjusting the "faster" BPM toward the end.

3. Your tab is wrong. Sometimes tabs will incorrectly have extra measures or an extra repeat or two. When playing the song back in EoF, do the notes/beats arrive to soon, or too late? If your beatmap is correct, then it's your tab. It may mean you'll have to cut/copy/paste in certain areas to fix it.

Actually there is a known issue with EoF where a certain combination of BPM changes cause the end of the chart to skew.  TBH I haven't kept up with updates to see if it has been rectified.  I have submitted sample GP files and, as far as I am aware, instructions to reproduce the behaviour.

 

Best way around it is to re-import GP files, so you need to be careful how you line up the first notes so that re-importing the GP file will put the notes where you want them.

 

It's actually quite common when you are dealing with songs with meandering tempos.  So much so that workflow revolves around it i.e. I always sync so the GP file lines up at the first notes(s) and I never work on charts until I get to the end of a sync, so UI can re-import if i have to and I don't lose any work.

I couldn't find any submitted files demonstrating such an issue. If anybody has some, I can look into it. Given that notes resnap automatically every time a beat is moved, I'm not expecting there to be any significant skew as mentioned. This was likely more of an issue on much, much older builds of EOF.

We did talk about this before and you looked at it and, admittedly, I could not reproduce it at the time. But I just tried 2 files there and it was donig it consistently.

 

I can give you the files but I reckon you can reproduce it with any GP file and audio of the correct length (no point trying it with a 3 min GP file over 7 mins of audio).

 

Also, for reference I did use extreme BPM drops i.e. from the default 120 to 80.

 

 

I will get together some files tonight and upload them if the new EoF is still doing it.  About time I updated again :D

Yeah, I wouldn't necessarily call this a huge problem as it can usually just be solved by a re-import of the GP file (so if there are changes I want/need to make before finishing the sync, I usually do them in the GP), but I've definitely seen what @@PC Plum is describing happen before. If there's a section at a slow tempo that then switches to a faster tempo later, often the tail end of the tab gets screwed with so that on bass tabs there are lots of chords and the tab ends too early.

 

I won't have much free time over the next few days, so I might not be able to help out, but I'll see if I can find something this afternoon.

Alright, this might be more useful as a Zip, but here's a dropbox folder containing everything I used to make this error occur (I did the edit to an already completed version, so the .backup probably has the "right" version, while "notes" itself has the error on the bass track). It didn't happen when I tried it with the actual intro tempo, but it did when I initially used a ridiculously low (~half actual) tempo for the intro. I think when I was actually syncing this song I had a similar problem too, so it might also happen with the default tempo of 120. The steps I did to make the EoF (hotfix 1435) file were:

 

1) Set initial BPM to 70.

2) Import GP file with (Edited) tag, keep time signatures, "Bass" track to Part_Real_Bass_22.

3) Sync up intro section of the tab (up to measure 36).

4) Set BPM for main section (measure 36 onwards) at ~227 BPM.

5) Look at measures 96 on, compare to GP file that was imported.

Thanks, @@albatross213. It took me a while to get to this, but I've fixed the problem. It's likely this will remove any note timing corruption people had been seeing when importing notes and then manipulating the beat timings.
