Happy Halloween, everyone! Later this week we also celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). To honor both traditions, this week's custom DLC lineup mixes spooky party songs with a few more reflective, spiritual tracks. Thanks to everyone who jumped into last week's poll. Since we had a tie, I went ahead and squeezed in an extra track from the tied slots. Hope y'all enjoy the list and have a great week!

Korn word up
Korn didn't originally head into the studio with the intention of recording a proper cover of Cameo's 1986 funk/R&B classic. Instead, frontman Jonathan Davis revealed that they had been jamming on the main riff during their live soundchecks for years just for fun. When it came time to pick unreleased tracks for their 2004 Greatest Hits, Volume 1 album, they decided to finally record the full version in the studio—transforming a casual soundcheck warm-up into a heavy, down-tuned nu-metal staple.

The Black Keys - Stay In Your Grave
Halloween Timing: Released on October 25, 2024, the track was specifically timed as a spooky, Halloween-themed single complete with a campy, macabre music video.

1. Album Origin: It wasn't on the original standard release of the band's 12th studio album, Ohio Players, instead appearing on the expanded Trophy Edition later that year.

2. Collaborative Style: It merges The Black Keys' signature retro-garage and blues-rock swagger with the distinct shock-rock vocals of legendary guest artist Alice Cooper

Hot Milk - HORROR SHOW

1. EP Breakthrough: "HORROR SHOW" serves as the title track of their 2021 sophomore EP, which cemented their reputation for tackling anxiety, self-doubt, and chaos through high-energy, anthemic song structures.

2. Festival Staples: The track became a major crowd-pleaser in their live sets, helping propel the band onto major festival stages across the UK and international touring circuits like Download Festival and Sad Summer Fest.

Linkin Park - One More Light

1. Inspiration and Origins: Mike Shinoda co-wrote One More Light with British songwriter Eg White following the death of Amy Zaret, a longtime Warner Bros. Records employee and friend of the band who passed away from cancer

2. Changing Meaning: Though initially written to process grief over a lost friend, the song took on a profound, tragic new weight following the death of frontman Chester Bennington in July 2017 It was subsequently released as a posthumous single and video tribute to honor his life and legacy

3. Emotional Weight in Concerts: Mike Shinoda has noted that the song became so emotionally heavy to perform live that it was difficult to include in setlists without pulling down the mood of the entire show

Royal Blood - Dead Company

Bass-Driven Style: True to the band's signature two-piece setup, the track showcases Mike Kerr’s clever use of octave pedals and custom bass rigs to generate massive, guitar-like distorted riffs without using an actual guitar.

Lita Ford - Close My Eyes Forever

1. Accidental Hit: Written completely by accident during an all-night jam session when Sharon Osbourne left Lita and Ozzy alone in the studio, resulting in the sun coming up and a finished track

2. Chart Milestone: Released on Lita Ford's 1988 album Lita, it became a massive commercial success and stands as the highest-charting single of Ozzy Osbourne's solo career (peaking at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100)

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets - Bill's Mandolin

Album Origin: Released in 2022, "Bill's Mandolin" is featured on the Australian psychedelic rock band Psychedelic Porn Crumpets' fifth studio album, Night Gnomes.

1. Music Video: The official music video leans heavily into the band's trademark surreal and trippy aesthetic, featuring eccentric visuals set inside an otherworldly, stone-walled dungeon with flying instruments.
   

Tilly Louise - Join the Club

1. Release Origin: Released on June 16, 2023, "Join the Club" serves as the title track and opening cut of the debut EP by Liverpool-based indie/alt-pop artist Tilly Louise

2. Vibe and Style: The track sets a vibrant, high-energy, and catchy mood, anchoring an EP known for its youthful lyricism, upbeat melodies, and vibrant indie-pop instrumentation

3. as of making this post has around 23k listeners on spotify. I found the song catchy so I decided to add them and just to vary it up/ post different bands

Phinehas - Fleshkiller

• Album Origin: Released as the lead single on May 17, 2013, it served as the title track precursor for their second studio album, The Last Word Is Yours to Speak.

• Chart Milestone: The album housing this track helped earn Phinehas their first-ever Billboard chart positions, landing on both the Top Heatseekers and Top Christian Albums charts.

• Thematic Meaning: The song ties heavily into the Christian metalcore band's signature style, featuring deep theological allusions about divine sovereignty, trials, and resilience with its iconic opening riff.

Primus - The Ol' Grizz
EP Origin: Released in May 2026, "The Ol' Grizz" is featured on Primus's EP A Handful of Nuggs.

Music Video: The band dropped a quirky, surreal official music video for the track featuring bizarre imagery (including a distinct bear/grizzly aesthetic), staying true to Primus's signature eccentric visual style.

not very halloweeny or spiritual but it was the hardest song i could find, get ready to slap the bass.

My bass is having the intonation issues with drop tunings again 😩 so I've booked it into the local spa for some R&R (well, actually the local guitar shop for a setup service and some new strings) at the end of the week. So hopefully that will help with the likes of the Hot Milk song 👍

Are you talking about the bass path for Hot Milk? If so, then that might explain the issues I was having rather than my bass being weird.

Every time I attempted the bass path on Score Attack it was fine until l I got into the middle 8 and then it would randomly tell me I missed a note or two when I was certain I hadn't. The strange thing was when I played through that section on Riff Repeater it seemed to be absolutely fine, and I swear I was playing the exact same thing. (I was also swearing a lot in general at the screen but that was out of frustration 😂 )

nope was talking bout linkin park but ill have a go and see if i have issues with the middle8

Well tbh i couldnt tell you if its rocksmith issue, a mod issue, cdlc issue, bass issue, or a skill issue or all of the above😅

I do know lately i've been having terrible recognition with drop tunnings on bass and sometimes guitar hence my poor score on the gog week song.

I do think mine is partly the mod i have on cause some bass songs now just distort way too much (when they didnt before / sometimes to the point it doesnt let me tune the bass) even though im not clipping through the interface/ its low and my knobs are aswell . Cheesewizards mod is used so you don't have to retune /setup your bass. But I feel like the previous version of the mod without the interface was slightly better or atleast I dont remember having as many issues.

And now i can't get that high 😅 Might uninstall it we'll see.

I say If you are getting 99% i wouldnt worry about it too much though. I would only look into it if you are failing a ton of notes and always at the same spot and in slow rr. But yea its frustrating when you know you hit something right and it doesnt detect for x reasons/ especially when trying to 100% it. But based of alrsc comments he also had issues in lower tunnings.🤷‍♂️ we'll see how others do.

I quite like this bass chart by @Mikson. But would prefer to turn up the bass volume quite a bit beyond what I could get using the RS Mixer. I'm not up on all the RS Toolkit technology though.

Let's save Stairway for another week, plenty of good stuff here already. I'll have to start practicing Stairway, haven't played it for years and recall it was pretty hard.

If you don´t know - only 2 ppl Drums and Bass (!) that is used "very guitary" .. so charting that also as a guitar track is cool for me.

Arrrrrrr...pegio hell ;) Ozzy´s voice does make up for that though

I had something the same on my guitar. And I think it was a wrong bridge setup. I did some saddles movements and got better recognition. But imma lamer so this might be absolutely wrong.
