My little New Year's Eve speech😂:
After a while, it is with great pleasure that I am hosting this week.
This year was very special for me since I finished a big personal project.
At the same time, I want to thank @Rodman , as well as @Mikson and my fellow Mexican compadre @cacahuate51 who were running the Championship with a heavy rotation. And I am really excited that so many organizers have joined lately this year!!! BIG WELCOME to everyone!!!
So this is my little 2025 selection to celebrate New years eve with you.
In this era where AI music is everywhere, let's celebrate that actual human beings made of flesh keep creating great music, and there are people daring to learn to play them with their hands with dexterity. I have said that before and believe strongly that you don't truly understand and enjoy music if you don't play it! Cheers to playing music!!! 🥂🤩🥂🤩🥂🤩

About this week 2025 SELECTION:

I haven't hosted a Championship in a while, so I hope I got the difficulty ratings OK... Let me know what you think about the ratings, and about the songs in general. I hope you enjoy the selection!!!

> Evanescence - Fight Like A Girl

Apparently, this is a soundtrack for the movie "From The World of John Wick: Ballerina" (I haven't watch it yet). It's a cool song... but in very strict terms may not qualify as a beginner song! It is mostly very easy and basic but it has some tricky parts. I beg for your understanding since it is hard to find a beginner song and more so if the choices are limited to this year...

This is the song maybe I liked the most from this selection!!! I hardly knew Chevelle. I don't know much bands and music specaily from the decade of 2010 because I was busy with work and kids, and It's a great pleasure to rediscover bands here. I am providing a Drop-D version.

> Psychedelic Porn Crumpets - When in Rome

I also discovered Psychedelic Porn Crumpets here in CustomForge and I have become a big fan!!! Apparently they have a big psychedelic rock scene in Australia, so I hope I can go there someday!!!

Besides that, there is an interesting contrast with Chevelle above. Chevelle complains they didn't make a penny after selling 2 million CDs with Epic records. On the contrary, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets created their own record label.

In case you don't know, Steven Wilson is the mastermind behind English band Porcupine Tree. The bassline is freaking cool!!! I think this may be a bit difficult challenge for advance bass, but I thought it didn't belong to masterclass...

Really cool song. I am providing a E-Standard version.

I didn't even bother to try the bass, since you need a 6 string bass.

Great song reaching the realm of jazz, with a sincere heartfelt message. The bass was rated way lower, but I think for the sake of this Championship, this would be rated 9...

Starting with @Rodman he says....

What a year. Work has tried to really get me, it did! My main job - i am deputy chief of a nuclear medicine department - there are big projects to be fought through against declining budgets, everything is hanging by a thread and everyone is a bit nervous, for me a ton of emailing and discussions in meetings while the regular work amount remains at 100% ;)

My "just for fun" job - private practice is running waaaaaaay too good i could probably meet my needs easily doing only that..... my 3rd job - teaching medical stuff needs a bit restructuring to not take away my oct, nov and dec afternoons.

The good thing that this year brought up is that i realised again how important playing guitar, the championship with you girls and guys, and music overall is to me. Every evening - even after a 13hour workday there has been and is .... irrepressible motivation to take the guitar and go for a few runs.
So i cut my passive leisure time to zero - practically no movies, no books, no tv-shows but work on the CS, the scores or learning to play or record music. It´s a great feeling to know that this cannot be stopped.

The second half of the year a big part of my energy was needed in the family cause there is a child fighting with cancer - fingers crossed everything is looking good so far, therapy shall be ending in feb.

So - 2026 - i´ll absoultely be trying to give esp. Miks, Caca and Robo a good fight - man did it get tough here - i just love it.
And i absolutely wanna start doing some covers again ;) be warned.

Cheers to the Championship - a place to truely celebrate playing music.

I catched a cold and I can't play last week.

This week's songs are very difficult.

Didn't have much time this week, between family commitments, power outages, and other things. So far, only one decent result has been achieved 😉
Must admit that transcribing this one was much easier than actually playing it 😁 but TBH I wouldn't rate it 7.5. I think it's an honest 7 at best.
Still haven't been able to pass the Score Attack for the Flea's track without failing it. Dude's crazy fast!

Busting out the bass before I forget. Happy new year everyone!! 🎆

When the guitar is tuned to D Drop C I can't stop myself from a BFMV, Disturbed, A7X, Chevelle, SOAD frenzy. Hell yeah!! 🤘

Also revisiting some of my favorite songs from the Championship like Becoming the Bull by Atreyu and I Remember by 10 Years! They were so tough back then, now not so much 🥰
