RockForge — Rocksmith 2014 CDLC builder

Hi all,

I've been building RockForge, a free and open-source (MIT) app that turns a Guitar Pro file plus a recording into a Rocksmith 2014 CDLC. It's in public beta and I'd love the community's feedback.

Download (Windows installer or portable zip, no Python needed, ffmpeg included):

WHAT IT DOES

Input

• Guitar Pro GP3/GP4/GP5 and GP7/GP8 (.gp): notes, techniques, tempo changes, sections, capo, and repeats/voltas/D.S./D.C. unrolled as they are played.

• Or start from a Songsterr link (the tab, the bar timings people marked against a YouTube video, and that video's audio), or from a PDF/picture of a tab.

• Guitar Pro 8 sync points and the audio embedded in a .gp file are used directly.

Output

• Both a playable native .psarc and a DLC Builder project (.rs2dlc + Song2014 XMLs + audio + cover), so you can always finish or tweak it in DLC Builder.

• Lead, Rhythm, Combo, alternate arrangements (LEAD 2, RHYTHM 2) and Bass (4- and 5-string), named as the game shows them.

• Chord finger positions and names, linked notes, arpeggios, Dynamic Difficulty, phrases built like DLC Builder's, showlights, album art.

• Merge two Guitar Pro tracks into one arrangement (for tabs that split one guitarist across two tracks), and choose which bars.

Sync (you check it by ear)

• Song start, BPM, "fix from here", drag notes or whole passages, align by bar, a main track the others follow, undo/redo.

• "Mark by ear": tap the bars (or every attack) while listening, for tabs that were never synced.

• The recording's attacks drawn over the score, so you see where the tab disagrees with the recording; audio bars per instrument after stem separation.

• Experimental automatic sync with a variable tempo.

Editing

• Note editor (add/move/delete notes, change frets, sustains, techniques), sections, and a fret-hand position (FHP) editor with a better automatic placement.

• Two tracks on screen at once, to move or copy notes between them at the same position.

• 3D note highway preview with bends, and a fretboard that can show every note of the tuning.

Lyrics and tones

• Lyrics from the GP file (timed on the vocal line), LRC/UltraStar, a search on LRCLIB, or automatic detection, with an editor beside the score.

• Tone editor with the real Rocksmith gear catalogue, a tone library, the tones of every song in your dlc folder to copy from, timed tone changes and tone suggestions per part.

Delivery

• RockForge checks its own PSARC for the faults that used to crash the game, and "Install in the game" copies it into a folder of its own inside dlc.

• Export/import a whole project as one file, batch creation for albums, Portuguese/English interface.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO (honest limits)

• No audio-to-tab transcription: you need a Guitar Pro file, a Songsterr tab or a PDF of one. I measured it on real distorted guitar: about one note in three. That's not good enough, so I left it out.

• GP6 (.gpx) is not supported (export as GP5 or GP7).

• Dynamic Difficulty is a density ramp, not a full DDC pass. For DLC Builder's DDC, open the bundled project there.

• Tone suggestions classify the character of the sound; they don't identify the real amp.

• It's a beta, tested in game on my own songs. Please report what breaks.

REQUIREMENTS

• Windows 10/11.

• Wwise 2019, 2021, 2022 or 2023 for the playable .psarc audio (free from Audiokinetic, but its licence doesn't allow bundling it; 2024/2025 are not supported yet). Without Wwise you still get the DLC Builder project.

• The usual CDLC patch.

• Optional extra components (stem separation, lyric/tone detection, PDF import, YouTube audio): the app offers to download and install them for you.

• The installer isn't code-signed, so SmartScreen may warn: More info → Run anyway. SHA256SUMS.txt is on the release page.

CREDITS

Huge thanks to iminashi's Rocksmith2014.NET / DLC Builder (MIT): the format work, Wwise templates, gear catalogue and phrase generator RockForge follows. Thanks also to alphaTab (playback order and GP8 sync), to teaqu/guitar-pro-youtube-sync (the idea of using Songsterr's video timings), and to this community's documentation over the years. Full list in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md.

PLEASE NOTE

RockForge is not affiliated with Ubisoft and contains no songs. Use it with material you own or are allowed to use. Songsterr tabs and YouTube audio are for personal use only, so please don't redistribute imported tabs or CDLCs with copyrighted recordings. Details in LEGAL.md.

Feedback, bug reports and feature requests are very welcome, here or as GitHub issues.
