Dunlop gatorgrip .58mm

I'm using the Dunlop Tortex .73 yellow (matt bellamy style) Started playing because of him and figured I know nothing about guitar (at the time) so I essentially copied him.

I've used my own made Stainless steel for one entire year (with a hardware mod allowing me to play Guitar Hero / RB songs with a real guitar (the wired pick)

After such amonth of plays, the pick doesn't show any signs of intensive usage.

 

The one on the left shows the unfinished one, on the right the Brushed & edges polished one (1mm thin).

Made from a Fender as a template.

 

For now i'm playing with the plastic "No name" .73

Guitar Hero with a real guitar?  wut?

I played eenie meenie miney moe and landed on fender heavy pick and never tried anything else.  I'm a noob but whats the difference or reason to use a thinner pick does it sound different?  Am I totally missing out on something all this time.  I just never bothered to get anything else because these have never chipped or broke or anything but I have lost a bunch somehow and am down to the last one.  Any tips?

For me it's heavy picks 99% of the time but I switch to light picks when I'm doing nothing but strumming.

Hard to find them now (in shops in my local area).  I'm down to my last one, I'm gonna have to buy some off ebay or something...

I switched from classical to electric, and a thumb pick seems to be the thing for me. Tried to get used to all sorts of normal picks with varying success but the thumbpick was an instant yes. It just sits much more comfortably in my hand and I can still pluck with my fingers every now and then. 

 

It has to be the plasticky sort of thing too, because they bend a little to adjust to your thumb (metal ones don't and feel awkward).

Started out using various 'Tiger' picks, though I have lately started using fingers only.... still getting used to it, but getting there :)

I've been using the Dunlop 3mm picks for the most part. But I do have a custom made out of a Korean 500 won coin that responds more or less the same way. I'll post pics if I can find it. 

Several years ago, I had a right arm injury that prevented me from playing for a couple of years. When I was finally able to return to playing, I found that the nerve damage to my arm and wrist prevented me from holding picks well, so I moved to Herco thumb picks.

It's a really elegant solution for anyone who might have physical difficulties with their pick hand.

One thing it does allow is an effortless switch between fingerpicking and flatpicking.

I use a Hetfield Black Fang 0.94mm Ultex by Dunlop.

I want to try the Hetfield I've never used unter but hear food things. I am currently using Brain pick Snarling Dogs. 88 I love the texture on them and the top part works great for scrapes.
