CURRENT PHASE - IMPROVEMENT

Now that we have a collection, let's focus on making the collection as high fidelity as humanly possible! When you play a song from this collection that could stand improving, please start by PM'ing the author with detailed and precise (including timestamps or at least times +/- 5 sec of each unique issue) recommended improvements and if the user is inactive then consider adopting or making an improved version.

I wish to avoid squabbling so I prefer not to disparage contributors' work in public that would embarrass him or her, but as I haven't had the time to try all the CDLC here, if the charter doesn't respond within a reasonable time delay, may I recommend you PM me when you stumble upon a significantly flawed Maiden CDLC. I would then place an asterisk beside the entry which would alert charters to consider improving or recreating the CDLC in question. We all had to start somewhere in our learning curve and we appreciate your effort! Now we want this collection to be the world-wide authority on mastering the mighty Maiden!

 

I will keep this list up-to-date as follows as per the follow-up comments on this topic and using the following naming convention:

That said may I recommend trying your hand at authoring your most desired Maiden song. I swear to you authoring a CDLC has been one of the most rewarding learning experiences I have ever undergone and I was mostly ignorant about music theory and guitar. You may feel lost at the beginning but the various tutorials in this site and the help menu inside EoF has great descriptions on how to get started. Just note some sections of the help menu are a bit more related to Rockband but there are definitely very important sections dedicated to Rocksmith. On top of everything I have made many nice friends on SA and now CF.

 

Watch Pyrobillie's tutorials even though a tiny bit has changed since RS2012. I haven't watched Skeptic Squid's tutorial on this site yet but I suspect that is also great. Nonetheless these are the two links that gave me the most confidence to get started as they paint a pretty complete procedure.

You are right MrCscn. ffsimaloos3r, this song doesn't appear in my song list either. In the toolkit when packing, what did you put uin the  "Song Title Sort" and Artist Sort" fields?

As I wrote in your post Snake, thank-you so much and I will put all links to Maiden songs in the OP as soon as I finish No More Lies.

 

Then perhaps I'll be due to update the Tech Notes tutorial, then I'll get started on Alexander the Great. After I want to make Rocky IV's Hearts on Fire if I can find tabs for it and then likely will make more Maiden after that. I was thinking Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, Murders in the Rue Morgue, Infinite Dreams and Where Eagles Dare but I won't write my name beside those yet because at my rate of completion that'll take a long time so I will do them when the time comes if nobody else does them first.

I was planning on doing The Wicker Man, Where Eagles Dare and Die with your boots on.

Maybe redo Phantom of the Opera since I don't believe that Bacon ever updated his version. (His version breaks the tones for the entire game if you play it)

By all means if you could get to songs like Where Eagles Dare before me, please do so. This song is mysteriously absent from all their concerts sadly. I dunno why since I consider it one of their 10 best.

 

If you want the maximize Maiden coverage I know Fabianosan intended to update his RS2012 version of Wickerman while you focus on something else but of course nothing prevents you from offering you edition if Wickerman.

 

Maybe Bacon didn't know about the tone bug for Phantom. Probably you can save yourself great effort if we PM him and explain this so he can fix it.

No problem, I am as big a Maiden Fan as I am a Metallica and Ozzy/Black Sabbath fan. I am doing this songs because I want to learn how to play them ^^

 

I also intend to do, can I play with Madness? but these are further a bit down the road, got a ton of songs to do.

Dance of Death by Akaiz is now available here at CF. It is most welcome in it's own right and also because iFrit1332 didn't seem interested in joining another site after Smithy's downfall so we were really missing this song!

I am currently getting feedback on No More Lies so it is in the final stages. Shouldn't be much more than a week now until release here. Inching my way forward every night as my baby goes to sleep... Thanks for your patience! I am learning so much! I recommend everyone try their hand at doing at least one song. Though I never spoke to anyone who would ever consider stopping at one... :)

 

 

Feedback on No More Lies showed me that I could make some slight improvements to my beat mapping. However since it is almost complete and very playable I might as well share my latest beta version.

 

Feedback also recommended considering all sequences similar to the 5 5 5/7 1 1 1/3 3 3 3/5 after the first chorus to be palm mute the 2 single notes before the powerchord. Watching Maiden footage it looks like Adrian is the only one palm muting. Check out 3:24 of this video:

 

 

I even bought an ultimately non-noob friendly seemingly official tab from onlinesheetmusic.com, which seems tabbed differently than this CDLC and the middle of page 7 has a bunch of Cryptic "Fig 1" and no palm mutes, but later in the tab there are some sparse palm mutes. I think I will just keep Dave and Jannick without Palm mutes and Adrian with Palm mutes unless several of you have a definitive answer for me.

5. The Rhythm clean tone sounds high pitched relative to the song but I noticed that it is part of the harmony and it sounds better if picked lightly.

 

Deviations from the Tab:

The following are the deviations with respect to the tab, either due to RS2014 limitations or corrections made by ear:

a) Jannick, measure 100: whammy bar not modeled (RS limitation)

B) Adrian, measure 93: Grace notes modelled as two quickly successive notes with first note as a string muted note defined with the same fret as the note it precedes. Tab showed pre-note to be open string. Since grace notes are not part of the RS2014 feature set, the pre-note has been given IGNORE status, so missing that note won't penalize the player's score.

c) Dave, measure 79: 1 grace note modeled note and pre-note as a Hammer-On; neither note is given IGNORE status.

d) Adrian, measures 86,87,88,91 & Jannick, measure 94: 'artificial harmonic' and 'special harmonics' were modeled as 'pinch harmonics'.

e)Dave, measure 122, Adrian, measure 122, Jannick, measure 27,28,31,32: calls for Rasgueado flamenco flicking of the strings technique. For Dave and Adrian, the flicking is quite slow and was modeled as an arpeggio. For Jannick, this was simply modeled as a regular chord being picked.

f)Jannick, measure 93:, the trill in the beginning of the solowas modeled as a sequence of Hammer-On's and Pull-Offs (HOPO) each with 1/32 note duration. The trill with artificial harmonic was modelled as rapid picking (1/32 notes) pinch harmonics.

g)Jannick, measure 19: was as one slide instead of three due to listening to the song. As well I made them 3 fret slides since the GP tab didn't specify the end note of the slide. Sounds right.

h) Adrian, measure 86: beginning of solo pre-slide is not modelable in EoF so I treated it as a legato slide from fret 5 to fret 7 with vibrato. To score this properly, pick at fret 5, quickly slide to 7 and regardless of whether you do the vibrato you will see that you score twice doing this, 1x for the 5 and 1x for the slide to 7.It is a legato slide because you don't pick again upon sliding to 7 (fret 5 pick was set to linknext=1 so as to remove the note head on the fret 7)

i)Jannick, measure 122: changed from ghost notes to string mute notes since the these notes are clearly audible in the song.

 

Tones Volumes and Music Volumes were designed to sound best for the following:

1) In-Game Music Mixer at 100%; All Mixer volumes at 100%.

2) Recording Device Level in Windows at 71; Windows Volume Mixer for PC Speakers at 100%

3) PC Speakers treble and bass knobs set to middle

4) In-game Real Tone Cable Gain 2.0 dB

 

Each of the guitar solos are way too advanced for me to perform so I was hoping to see someone tell me that Rocksmith is not too cumbersome to learn those flurries of notes.
