Hello there!

Can you play pinch harmonics? Because I can't, even though I'm starting to get the idea how they are supposed to work...

 

I am currently improving my custom Life by Devin Townsend, and it seems like there are two pinch harmonics that weren't properly charted in my sources.

I came up with a guess, but I might be totally wrong... therefore it would be a awesome if someone could help me identify those harmonics.

 

This folder contains the _p.psarc, a gp5 and the mp3 of the song. (See the song thread instead)

The bars in question are #62 and #63 (they are repeated a couple of times)

(I should mention that this song is in Open C tuning)

In the gp5 (Lead), in bars 62 & 63 you see my guess, and in 64 & 65 the way it is charted in the tabs I found on the web.

 

In the mp3, that part beginns at 2:34.

Well, I can hit those pesky pinch harmonics fairly well, but I'm no pro at it. Although I can tell you this: the pitch produced is more than just the fret you're playing. A significant part of manipulating pinch harmonics is where the string is touched by your picking hand. Even a slight change in the location of the player's hand can have a huge effect on the tone and pitch. In regards to this, it might be that your sources were correct, and you were activating the harmonic at a different location than Townsend did along the string (assuming the original tabs are correct). Yeah, the position of the picking hand was mentioned in the Rocksmith tutorial as well, and I was even able to experience the difference it makes.

I guess this makes it really hard to determine how a p.h. was originaly played.

 

My judgeing about the wrong frethand position was based on the live video I linked above... but then again, the way things were played for the recording and live can always be different, too...
