Hello everyone,

I’m playing Rocksmith 2014 (CD version, non-Steam) on an older PC running Windows 10. The game is installed in the C:/Rocksmith directory. I’ve encountered an issue with the DLL files. I found a 32-bit version of the d3dx9_42.dll file online, which allowed me to launch the game and play the songs included in Rocksmith. However, whenever I try to launch a DLC song, the game crashes at the amplifier screen, and I have to use Alt + F4 to exit.

When I try to replace the d3dx9_42.dll file with a more recent version I found online, the game doesn’t launch properly. Instead, after running the game, I get a white screen and then it returns me to the desktop.

I used the CDLC patching tool that I found on their forum, but it tells me that the folder is not found.

I don’t have a Steam account, and I’m wondering if it’s possible to get the DLCs working with my current setup. Does anyone have any ideas or solutions to resolve this issue?

Improbable. I am dubious. Legit PC copies of Rocksmith 2011 and 2014 required Steam to download and work. We will not provide support for pirated material. The PC CD/DVD versions did not contain the game on the CD/DVD. I know, I have the CD/DVD version, and in so more than one copy of it.

You are unable to get the d3dx9_42.dll because it does not match the version you are using. I am thoroughly confused as to how you have been a member since 2014 and have not had a Steam account. (Other than the obvious being a console user.)

Straight up, the answer is no. It will not work. The .dll are written for the Steam version.

It is safe.

Scroll back to page 40 and read that page, and the next couple pages for more information. If you wish to use it you will have to temporarily disable your anti-virus / windows defender / et al in order to download, and more than likely to install. remember to turn them back on after installation.

I have installed the loader but when I try to play a song I cannot get past the amps... Please any help 😭 🙏

Usually not getting passed the amps is sign that no d3dx9_42.dll is present with the cDLC or that the wrong version of the d3dx9_42.dll is being used. Going to need little more information.

Using Windows? I assume Windows from your profile, or are you using a Mac?

You downloaded the enabler, and ran it? Did the d3dx9_42.dll file get placed in the Rocksmith 2014 root folder with the Rocksmith.exe? Usually it should be installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rocksmith2014.

Did Windows Defender or your anti-virus remove it?

What version of Rocksmith 2014 are you using?

It works now! I just verified files on steam.

FWIW, it's helpful to the next person (and to some extent to us) to tell us what the fix was....

He used "verify files" through Steam Library. Right Click Rocksmith 2014, Properties, Local files, Verify integrity of Game Files (button).

*Shrug*, and unlikely he knows. If there was a corrupted file, it may have prevented it from working. I would have to sift through prior threads, however I believe other people have experienced that as well.

Other thing being, if was using previous version or beta version, it would have updated it and then the .dll and version would have matched.

Ok, thanks. I had sent a comment early on for him to search the backlog because I couldn’t remember the answer but I knew it was there.

But I’ve been having trouble posting from the phone so I think it didn’t take.

ive actually not used RS in 6 months or so and there have been no new CDLC of interest to me in 2 years or more so I’m getting rusty.

Uni starts up again in a few weeks so I may get back to it….

Hi everyone

I have experience dealing with Rocksmith problems (more than playing it i think haha) but this time i can´t make it work...Can anyone help me?

The last time I´ve been playing was like two weeks ago. Today I tried to open and it just wont launch.
Things i´ve tried:

1. Update dll files with the cdlc enabler. Managed to get the white screen crash.

2. Tried with the previous version and the dll of that version...still no luck

3. Tried this method 

It worked for me other times, but no in this occasion.

4. Tried to deactivate all audio inputs and outputs except for the ones for rocksmith

5. Clean install....It won´t even launch like that. Nothing happens when launching it from steam. When i launch it from the .exe i have a pop-up saying that D3DX9_42.dll was not found and this can be resolved re-installing the game. Which is weird because is a clean install from steam. 

I love this game when it works but omg it needs a whole university career to deal with it hahaha

Si te dice que ya lo tienes, desinstálalo y vuelve a instalarlo. Reinicia el PC antes de probar el juego.

Si tampoco funcionara, prueba con éste:

Rocksmith 2014 (base game) was removed from Steam / digital sales in October of 2023.

This method is not your friend. If you do not listen to everything he says, i.e. go online, you are updating the game.

I am assuming you are using 2 different versions of game / D3DX9_42.dll . The version and the .dll have to match in order to work.

Save your cdlc as the video said to another spot / another folder / another directory.

Uninstall Rocksmith 2014.

Remove the D3DX9_42.dll file. Make sure that folder is empty.

Restart your computer. Restart Steam. Re-install Rocksmith.

BEFORE adding the D3DX9_42.dll / and cdlc  try the game and see if it works first. IF and only then when the game works first, try adding the D3DX9_42.dll using the current enabler.

Si!! Funcionó! Mil gracias, habia probado cientos de cosas, supongo que seria alguna actualizacion de windows que lo romperia todo! Era muy raro que me pidiera el .dll con la versión clean de steam....

Una vez instalado, me crasheó en el selector de perfiles pero eso ya pude arreglarlo mas fácilmente.

I'm very sorry to inform that ESET LiveGrid keeps on marking the CDLC Enabler as suspicious, so I can't install it in any way, even deactivating the antivirus. Why? I found Dream Theater's songs and I can't play anyone of them...

If PC/Windows, you can always download the DLLs from my private site and do a manual installation. You'll have to pick the correct one, though.

Thank you so much for your help, I'm totally sure that the installer is not a virus, but my AV software keeps on marking it as suspicious and blocks its installation. I'm downloading the dlls, I'll try which one is suitable for my version and I'll give you a feedback. Thank you very much indeed!

I have the same issue as @ Gammy , I've already tried removing the .dll and replacing it with someone's else. I also tried removing all dlcs and reinstalling the game itself but this doesn't work. The issue occure only when I start cdlc song and it wont pass me to the song. Is there any solution to this problem? The second screenshot is from original dlc and it works just fine...

What version of Windows are you using, what version of the .dll are you using, are you using the current version of the game, with the current enabler?

The situation you describe is usually what I said above, it is the wrong version of the .dll with wrong version of the game, especially if the base game is already working.

I use 11 win. I've tried the 117 Kb (the game don't even start and don't show up in task manager) and the 129 Kb one (freezes on amps). Also removing the 117 Kb dll help with lunching game but not the freezes. The game version is 165.396631 btw.
