This guide showcases how to get a Neural DSP plugins to work with note detection inside Rocksmith 2014 Remastered without the need for a DAW or an audio interface. There may be an easier way to go about doing this, but this is the method I have used and it hasn’t caused me any issues. Additionally using this method, you can keep the exclusivity mode turned off and keep using programs like Discord during your gameplay. This method may also suit you if you want to save up some money and still have an enjoyable experience using third-party tones. Do note that this method requires an Nvidia RTX GPU.
After installing the program, go to “Rocksmith Settings” and turn off “Real Tone Cable”, “Low Latency Mode”, "Microphone Mode" and “Exclusive Mode”. Now, head to the “Set And Forget Mods” tab and to “Misc”. There, click the “Add Direct Connect Mode” button.
2. Install Nvidia Broadcast:
After installing the program, head to “Audio” and set your “Microphone Input” to “Rocksmith USB Guitar Adapter”. Then, set the output to your default audio device such as your headphones.
3. Install Neural DSP:
When installing Neural DSP, make sure to choose the “Standalone” option. When opening the program, go to “Settings” and firstly set “Audio Device Type” to “Windows Audio” as this will give you the lowest possible “Audio Buffer Size” or latency. Then set the “Input Device” to “Rocksmith USB Guitar Adapter”. Then set your output to your preferred output device such as your headphones. Then, change the “Audio Buffer Size” to the lowest possible amount your computer can handle, the lowest possible amount with RTC should be “3.0 ms”.
4. Changing Windows Audio Settings:
Head to “Sound Settings” then “Advanced” and then “More Sound Settings”. Under the “Recording” tab find “Rocksmith USB Guitar Adapter”. Right-click on it and click "Properties" then head to the "Advanced" tab. There, turn off “Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device” and “Give exclusive mode applications priority”. Now head to the “Levels” tab and choose the input level for the Real Tone Cable microphone. Mine is set to 65. But this will vary depending on your guitar setup, pickups, etc. Play around a bit and choose a level that fits you.
5. Opening Rocksmith:
First make sure the above steps have been completed. Then open Nvidia Broadcast and a Neural DSP plugin. Finally open Rocksmith. At the start you will be greeted with an error message about audio exclusivity mode. Ignore these and keep clicking “Ok”. After entering the game, go to “Path/Input” there switch the input to “Direct Connect” mode. From there choose “Nvidia Broadcast”. Now, it is important that you mute your guitar sound in-game as you will otherwise hear a lot of static noise. Your guitar audio should be coming from Nvidia Broadcast/Neural DSP itself.
Additional Notes:
Neural DSP offers trial for all of their plugins. Try them all and choose one that fits your setup. For me it was Archetype Petrucci X.
Wait for a sale before buying a plugin. Neural DSP often offers -50% on all of their plugins.
If you are looking for any free impulse responses. I recommend this website here: https://www.tone3000.com/.
If you are looking for any tones, you can easily find them by adding the name of the plugin you are currently using in your search query. Do note that tones are not interchangeable between plugins. You will have to find a specific tone for the specific plugin you are currently using.
Changing tones in-game will now require doing so in the Neural DSP program itself. In order to make it easier and more effective, you can order a midi foot switch controller and program it within the Neural DSP. I may recommend “M-VAVE Chocolate Plus” which you can find quite cheap over at Aliexpress.
Look up anything Neural DSP related online if you have any questions as I will not be covering that here.

Requirements:
Real Tone Cable
Windows Machine
Any Nvidia RTX GPU
Nvidia Broadcast (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/broadcasting/broadcast-app/)
Any Standalone Neural DSP Plugin (https://neuraldsp.com/plugins)
RSMods (https://github.com/Lovrom8/RSMods)
Optionally but Recommended:
MIDI Foot Switch Controller
1. Install RSMods:
After installing the program, go to “Rocksmith Settings” and turn off “Real Tone Cable”, “Low Latency Mode”, "Microphone Mode" and “Exclusive Mode”. Now, head to the “Set And Forget Mods” tab and to “Misc”. There, click the “Add Direct Connect Mode” button.
