Rocksmith Guitar Mute - Delete guitar track from any RS song

🎸 RockSmith Guitar Mute - Remove Guitar Tracks from Any Rocksmith Song Using (totally free and locally installed) AI!

Hey fellow Rocksmith players! 👋

I'm Cédric, a developer by trade, guitarist by passion, and longtime Rocksmith user. I'm excited to share a project I've been working on that I believe can help all of us improve our playing!

🚀 What is RockSmith Guitar Mute?

RockSmith Guitar Mute is an open-source tool that uses AI-powered source separation to remove guitar tracks from any Rocksmith song, creating clean backing tracks. This means you can:

  • Hear yourself better when playing
  • Work on rhythmic placement with just drums, bass, and vocals
  • Experience the unmatched feeling of playing alongside your guitar heroes
  • Practice with isolated backing tracks for better skill development

🧠 The Magic Behind It

The project leverages Demucs - a state-of-the-art music source separation model developed by a Facebook Research engineer. This AI can intelligently separate audio into individual stems (drums, bass, vocals, guitar) with impressive quality!

The tool also builds upon existing community projects:

  • rs-utils and rsrtools for Rocksmith file handling
  • Modern AI techniques for clean audio separation

💻 How to Get Started

GUI Version (Easiest!)

Download the latest GUI release: v2025-09-07-1232-e9413a9

Command Line Version (For Power Users!)

Check out the full project: GitHub Repository

⚙️ Requirements

  • Windows only (for now - contributions welcome for other platforms!)
  • Wwise v2013.2.10 build 4884 - Download here
  • CUDA-compatible GPU recommended for faster processing

🔄 How It Works

  1. Unpack your Rocksmith PSARC files
  2. Extract the audio tracks
  3. AI Processing - Demucs separates instruments
  4. Remove guitar tracks while keeping drums, bass, vocals
  5. Repack into a new Rocksmith-compatible file

The whole process is automated and supports parallel processing for multiple songs!

🎯 Why This Matters for Your Playing

As Rocksmith players, we've all experienced the frustration of not being able to hear our own playing clearly, or struggling with timing because the original guitar track masks our performance. With clean backing tracks, you can:

  • Focus on your technique without competing with the original guitar
  • Develop better timing by playing to isolated rhythm sections
  • Build confidence by clearly hearing your progress
  • Experience the thrill of being the lead guitarist in your favorite songs

🤝 Open Source & Community Driven

This project is 100% open source! I welcome:

  • 🐛 Bug reports and feature requests
  • 💡 Suggestions for improvements
  • 🔧 Contributions (especially for Mac/Linux support!)
  • 📝 Feedback from the community

🚧 Current Limitations

  • Windows-only (working on cross-platform support)
  • Processing time varies with song complexity and hardware
  • Some audio artifacts may occur with complex mixes
  • Requires specific Wwise version for audio conversion

🎸 Ready to Try It?

Whether you're a beginner looking to hear yourself better or an advanced player wanting to nail those tricky solos with your heroes, I think this tool can be a game-changer for your Rocksmith experience.

Download the GUI version and give it a try with one of your favorite songs. I'd love to hear your feedback and experiences!

Happy rocking, and let's keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible with Rocksmith! 🤘

Cédric

P.S. - If you're a developer interested in contributing, the codebase is well-documented and I'm always happy to help new contributors get started!
