Not booting up after adding D3DX9_42.dll on my particular copy

Very simple question: Does the DLL not work because my copy is a cracked version of the game? I have tried downloading the DLL from several sources, reinstalling the redistributables and adding the folder to my AV's exceptions, however it doesn't seem to help. A friend of mine who has a copy purchase from Steam had no issue at all, so I figure it is related to, again, my game being a cracked copy. If that is the issue, is there any known solution?

Yes.
The .dll was updated to work on the remastered version so it stopped working on non-remastered/pirated copies a while ago.

Buy the game. Piracy is against our site rules.
