Something else you may want to look into, is taking an online course from a university.  I am taking "Fundamentals of Music Theory" from the University of Edinburgh.  Its not guitar centric (as a proper theory class should be). and its free.

Hmmm, even though I took music theory 27 years ago, it was a high school elective course, I'm sure a refresher would be right on target.
