Does anyone have a step-by-step guide for installing a file on the xbox?

I might be a newbie, but I gotta say, it seems damned near impossible to figure out how to install any of these files into the game on the xbox.  I have tried everything, but I must be missing something.  Is there a simple step by step guide that I can use to download and install these files on my game console?

    *  Remember to use your magic words (please and thank you) if you would like a response.  Don't use phrases like 'thanks anyhow' as it is demeaning.

    Specifically what doesn't work about it?  What have you tried?  Do you have a JTAG'd Xbox?  Need much more info from the newbie.
