I've searched through a few of the tutorial vids, which are pretty good, but they dont answer my dillema. I've picked what song i want to do, but the GP tabs (and others) are wrong. everything about them is wrong, the tunings, the tabs, the time sigs, etc.

 

now i've got a tab for the song that i printed out in the 90s. It was a pain to find that version of the tab THEN and pretty much impossible to find now (i've looked). So, i'm stuck manually entering the tab in by hand. Now, i dont mind that too much, because i'll probably learn to use EOF (and whatever else) better by spending more time in it. but once i get to that part in the tutorials i've seen it just boils down to "Go download the tabs and import them because it's going to suck doing them by hand".

 

 

my question is: is there a tutorial of doing it the hard way? I'd imagine there is, but i havent run across it yet (i havent really looked THAT hard yet). I assume it will be EOF i'll be doing most of the dirty work in (at least until i get the tab done).

 

 

so, who can point me in the right direction?

 

 

also, i've decided that since no one else is doing it, i'm going to tackle soundgarden/chris cornell songs, at least for the first few. and if anyone is working on Seasons, stop now, your tab is wrong ;)

To tab it is a better idea to use guitarpro or tux guitar and then import a correct tab in eof and synch it

I dont know about a tutorial anymore but I do know once you create a section that repeats its very useful to select that section and add it to the catalog option in eof then next time you use that section you just paste it from the catalog instead of tabbing out that whole section again you can add a bunch of sections that way Im not sure if there is a limit on how many you can add to the catalog but thats a huge time saver for doing it manually. This is quicker than trying to go back and copy and paste too.

hmm, i'll have to look into that. I did manage to figure out how to manually do it with EoF and have the first section roughed in. but it's just chords for the moment, i can see how single notes/arpeggios might get a little tedious in Eof to get lined up correctly (those parts are next in the song)

yea, that was one of the reasons i chose this song, it's mostly just rhythm and very few separate parts. Lots of copy/paste potential (and no solos and a lot of open strings in the tuning for the tab i have)

Definitely tab into a guitarpro file. It'll make your life easier, especially since you already have the tab (tabbing by ear is much more difficult!).

 

Make sure you've set the beatmap in EOF, then importing it will go more smoothly. After you import it into EOF, you might have to clean up some of the effects -- EOF doesn't interpret GP's hammerons/pulloffs properly, for one.

 

The songs I've worked on couldn't be copied/pasted like that. There were too many differences in the way the various verses/choruses were played. If I wanted note-for-note transcriptions, then copying the chorus just wasn't an option. But on a couple of songs I'm working on, I decided that note-for-note was more annoying than it's worth.

I have a question about charting in EoF, as much like Particle Man, I tweak / chart manually in EoF. I was looking to create an effect that I see sometimes in other CDLCs, where there is an inverted triangle on the note. Its where you play a string then press a note on another fret position on the same string but without re-playing the string. Basically your fingers "hammer" on the fret positions but you don't play the string again because the original sound from the first string play carries thru (I know it sounds super technical).  What do you call this effect and where in EoF can you chart this? Thanks all for your help.

Those are hammer-ons and pull-offs. In EOF it's pretty easy -- select the note that receives the hammer-on and hit  the "h" key. For a pull-off, just hit the "p" key.

 

 

Have a look in the Help menu -- the key file will give you many of the keyboard shortcuts, they'll help a lot. The Pro Guitar Manual gives you a good overview of working with EOF.

Thanks MVega. Never thought to read the Pro Guitar tutorial as i thought that was for Rock Band 3 compilation but there it is... all the effects!
