I've synced this twice in ultrastar and I'm not doing anything different from the other zillion songs I've done, yet I keep getting the error. I've tried removing apostrophes and leading spaces from the syllables, and nothing has worked.

I think removing the spaces may have been a mistake, so here's the 2nd file I synced, that hasn't been messed with, and comes straight from ultra\tar.

The issue was that the file uses UTF-8 encoding with BOM, and EOF's handling of that "Byte Order Mark" character was broken.  If you resave this lyric file as ANSI format or as UTF-8 without BOM EOF should be able to import it.

Unfortunately,  I seem to be having this issue again, except now, no matter what encoding format I save it in, it still says "Invalid lyric file" or "No lyrics detected", depending on the format choice. I was trying to post this song today so it's kind of a bummer., Any ideas?

There are errors in the lyrics:

Each entry in the lyrics needs to be in chronological order and can't overlap others. If you made the lyrics yourself, which lyric editing tool allowed this to be done?

Ah I think what happened was I missed the word button (mouse slipped off) and tried to back up (in Ultrastar) and must've accidentally overlapped. Thanks! :) I just redid it from scratch.
