How to Use Custom DLC (CDLC) on Mac (2023 Update)

The following instructions are for Rocksmith 2014 Remastered, with the latest update installed.  These instructions may not work for older versions or pirated versions of the game, and I will provide no support for pirated versions.  Please buy the game and support the developer.  Without the game, we would have nothing to play customs with anyway.

Download the patch here : https://github.com/aik002/RSBypass/releases/download/1.8pre2/RSBypass.zip

Video instruction :

To convert PC customs to Mac version :

https://github.com/glebb/rocksmithconvert/releases/download/2.2.0/RSConvert_GUI-2.2.zip

Here are all the steps (read them carefully) :

  • Your user account needs to be an Administrator account.
  • Download the Rocksmith Patch:  https://github.com/aik002/RSBypass/releases/download/1.8pre2/RSBypass.zip
  • Unzip the patch file and double-click on "RUN_PATCH_RS.command" to run the patch.  This will patch the Rocksmith 2014 app file to allow cDLC's to work.   **If you encounter a permissions error, see the note below**
  • Download the customs you want. Make sure they end in "_m.psarc". If they end in "_p.psarc" they are PC only versions and will need to be converted with the Toolkit. I'll put instructions for that down below.
  • Place the customs in the dlc folder. The location is: ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Rocksmith2014
    • It is a hidden folder, so the easiest way to find it is to open Finder, and using the "Go" menu, select "Go To Folder" and paste the location in there. You can then drag the dlc folder to your sidebar to create a permanent link.
    • You can also find the folder by opening Steam and going to your games library and right-clicking on Rocksmith 2014, and choosing "Properties".  Select the "Local Files" tab and click on "Browse Local Files"
  • Launch Rocksmith 2014 by either opening Steam and running it from "Library", or launch it from the Mac Launchpad by clicking on "Rocksmith 2014"
  • Say goodbye to your family, friends, and free time. You won't be seeing any of them for a while.

**If you encounter a permissions error while running the patch:

  1. Right-click on the patch and select "Get Info"
  2. Under "Sharing & Permissions", make sure that all users listed have "Read & Write" permissions.
  3. If they do not, click the small lock icon in the bottom right corner to allow the permissions to be changed, and enter your Admin password.  Then select each user that needs to be changed and alter the permissions.
  4. Repeat for the other two files needed for the patch ("insert_dylib" and "libRYBypass.dylib")

Updated 2023/11/01, confirmed to work until Sonoma OS.

Followed the instructions for mac, cdlc is shown in the list but when the song is chosen it hangs after tuning and does not continue to start the song

please help

ok so for those with the toolkit requiring "mono 2.8 or higher" to work despite installing any of the versions have to install this specific version of toolkit and the link that takes you to dropbox to download it does not work.
pls fix

Hello all,

Many thanks to everyone involved for all of the work here. I have been using CDLC on a Win PC for ages but I now have a Mac. I am trying to convert the existing PC files to Mac but I am getting the  message about the Toolkit requiring Mono 2.8 or higher to run.

Looks like this version of the toolkit is now unavailable:

https://www.dropbox....oolkit.zip?dl=0

Is there anywhere else that I can get it, please?

Thanks,

Nick.

EDIT: Oops just seen the post above. How did I not see that? Sorry!

Hello guys, someone have problems with cdlc patch for Mac with last game updates?

  • 2 weeks later...

same issue here, macos 10.13.6 and same error that Knubble79 has. Seems like toolkit needs to be updated.

RS Toolkit:

If You Get A Message About The Toolkit Requiring Mono 2.8 or Higher To Run (Despite Installing Any of the Versions of Mono Above):

Once Mono is installed correctly, use this version of the Toolkit:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ongd4aunfuhid0b/RocksmithCustomSongToolkit.zip?dl=0

This is an older version of the Toolkit, but it will allow you to convert PC customs to Mac, as well as update AppID if needed, and extract tabs.  I have edited the script that launches this version of the Toolkit to ignore the check for which version of Mono is installed.

For some reason this modification does not work on newer versions of the Toolkit.

This file is missing, could you be so kind  as to reupload or edit the link to a working copy please. Thank you.

Thank you, and I am happy to report that it works under macOS 10.14 Mojave (beta10) incase you are tracking compatibility.

I installed and verified the correct version of mono but my toolkit still says it needs version 2.8; I saw a link on the bottom of the post to an older version of the toolkit but it´s not available anymore. any idea where i can find that version

I'm on macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G2307). I followed the instructions for Sierra....

Managed to run the patch.

Then installed Mono, but the latest version wouldn't instal correctly, so uninstalled following the instructions on their site. Then installed 4.0.4.4, which seemed to instal just fine (ran the mono --version).

Then downloaded the latest version of the toolkit, which insisted I have Mono 2.8 or later, which of course I have....

Ok, so then tried to download the older version which is apparently patched, and ... file not found.

So I'm stuck. Any suggestions? This worked fine on my older Mac, last time I used it, in March I think.

Same here. I was hoping to find a fix... Guess I'll see if someone can convert a few for me from the RS FB group or something...

Please use wined version of cst instead of mono one, I'm sure you could alter launch script to auto-install mono in case it's not there and such but I ain't a mac user nor anyone from dev team, sorry guys, I know there's somewhere working build that won't ask you about mono, but meh, wined version is able to produce working cdlc on your mac, which mono version isn't going to do in near future :)

Thanks for chiming in . I attempted to but won't work . Been at it for hours .tried all versions and I guess If needs converting I cant download it . which sucks cause theres so few Mac  song  options

Dear Guitar God, [EDIT BELOW]

Could you explain 'use wined version of cst'? I have no idea what that refers to....

This has been working just fine on my old Mac, btw, so not sure what has changed. BTW it turns out that Mono instals just fine, the only issue is that it does not add a path so it can be run in the terminal. I solved that, but still stuck.

Worst comes to worst I might be able to get the PC version working but still, that's a nuisance. So anyhow, pointers on the first line would be appreciated.

(And if it turns out we can't get the Mac version working it would be a good idea to update the instructions... apparently I'm not alone with this problem :) )

Thanks

EDIT: do you mean this: rstoolkit-v2.9.0.0-b1c043443-stable-macosx? Found since I wrote this post and it loads just fine. Haven't tried it yet, getting late, will try tomorrow.

Thanks again.
