I was just wondering if it might be possible to mod RS so that rather than sending a colored block down the note highway, if it could send the colored note name? I think this would go a long way in making RS a true learning tool since you'd subconciously be learning the names of the notes and associating them with their positions on the fretboard, and how they interact with eachother.

Short answer : nop

 

Long answer : highly unlikely looking at how the engine works and how note gems are managed, one alternative way is to use inlay that indicate note name on the fretboard, i don't have a link but it is available and somewhere on this forum.

UKLoony did it on Feeling good by Muse. I think it was a proof of concept and would involve more work to chart.
