How do you import ptb files into EOF? Im guessing I need to convert the file but I am hoping that is not the case...

Yep, you'll need to convert it to Guitar Pro format (TuxGuitar is free). It should more or less be a lossless save, I doubt the PowerTab format is as complex as the Guitar Pro format.
