Is it possible to import this time signature properly from a gpro file? I can't seem to get it right. Time is always stretched out between notes, even when I import the gp5 time signature

Under Song -> Properties (also F9) there should be an option for "use accurate time signatures", which you want to have enabled. This will interpret the BPM as the usual "Q = number" rather than the literal beats per minute (that is, how many quarter notes you have in a minute rather than how many of the time signature denominator notes you have in a minute, which differ for x/8 and y/16 time signatures. There have been some recent improvements for dealing with these time signatures so you'll want to make sure you're updated to a version of EoF from the last month or so.
