Are redeemable codes safe?

I'm getting RS for pc off of steam, I also see redeemable codes for sale. Just looking for some feedback on this before I go through with it, and would be glad to hear anybody's input.

    Steam is the only official reseler for Rocksmith DLC, buying it anywhere else means that it can come from anywhere legal or not... (even Uplay doesn't sell rocksmith DLC directly).

    I decided just to fork over the $40 despite already owning the game on 360, it's a small price to pay to play anything I want.
