From time to time organizers gonna put songs in for extra challenge from about 6-12 months ago in the weeks that we to start. Songs that have been great, songs with a lot of competitors, songs a week just was not enuff...

the former competitors scores are there in the table - so if you wanna check your progress give it another try and kick your own score or just take the extra challenge to play an extra song competition-wise.

If you have an extra song you wanna play again - let organizers know, and in general be verbose about the idea!

@@Rodman I think She Rides by Danzig would be a good beginner song. RR works and has lead and Bass. It's probably a 1 on skill level. Check it out and see if it will fit.

It must be something to do with heavy gauge strings I was using, because I'm sure I was having note recognition issues with this song the first time around.  I say "was" because I've just snapped the G string - balls, and the evening started so well. :(

 

BTW - I think it's a really good idea to play some of the old songs again.  It's a real boost when you can measure some improvement, no matter how small, over the course of some months. :)

TIps for beginner, there wrong index positions, all notes at 4th string, 4 fret need play 5th string 9 fret. It classic Pentatonic scale.

Bass:

Pre-chorus is pretty tricky, as I remembered it, but by the last time I think I made it through without any mistakes. Should be able to improve pretty significantly with practice, as all of the difficult parts seem doable.

 

Rhythm:

I was really hoping there wouldn't be something in the outro to strike me out. Didn't have an easy time with the solo, but I should expect that given I was doing a sight-read. Verses aren't especially easy for me at that speed, but they aren't intimidatingly hard.

 

Lead:

More solos and leads than rhythm, but a lot of it was just playing a relatively simple pattern really fast. Screwed up hand positions a few times (it's harder finding frets when they're so small!), but overall an easier sight-read than rhythm. Could still be harder than rhythm once you get down to the nitty-gritty of improving on it, though.

 

 

 

Anyway, some things I might want to change:

-Song volume might be a bit quiet.

-Bass tone is definitely too quiet.

-Bass should be marked as "picked"

-On lead there was a run of harmonics in the solo that seemed weird. I'll have to double-check that.

-During the riff at the end of the verse (doubled notes, unison between all three paths) there were one or two spots where I thought it might be easier to avoid switching strings by not playing open notes (D, I think) and instead playing it on the 5th fret of the A string. Maybe similarly for some of the galloping lines on bass.

 

Let me know if you agree or disagree with any of these changes, or have any other advice for making the custom better!

My main issue is I'm slightly behind speed wise on the riff and I want to look at my fingers. I have a very bad habit of always wanting to look at the fretboard. I guess I just don't trust my fingers. Will work on it more later in the week. It's not difficult at all, just a bit faster than I'm used to i guess.
