I'm getting ready to chart a rhythm track, that's really just strumming on a few simple chords.

 

One thing I hate about Rocksmith though, is that, if the entire chord is displayed, it expects you to hit every single string, otherwise you get a miss. But that's not how 'real' guitar is played -- a lot of the times, you'll vary the way you hit a chord, not always hitting all of the notes.

 

So is there a way to display chords but somehow trick Rocksmith into accepting only partial chords?

I know what you mean.  I have the same problem with my Not Fade Away custom.  I haven't decided how to handle it yet.

 

There's an "ignore" function that will display a note but not count if you miss it.  I think it would ignore the whole chord though.  Maybe this situation would make a good case for a tech note ignore function.  Start a thread in the EOF section and see what raynebc says.  He's pretty open to adding things that will increase functionailty.

I think ignore tech notes have a good chance of working in this scenario.

I don't know why they didn't implement this in the game. A lot of the tab books I have simply give the chord names and strum pattern for the rhythm part -- especially when it's just an acoustic guitar strumming in the background.

 

But if the chord still displays even though it's set to ignore, then that should work right ? Then everyone can get 100% on at least one song!

Rock Band 3 had a mechanism like this called a "strum area", where they would specify which strings were scored for chord heavy parts. For example, the high strum area meant the higher pitched strings (G, B and high E) were scored and the others weren't so important, such as when downward strumming in an alternate strumming part.
