I have been trying to purchase Freebird.  I have Rocksmith 2014, but not the original.

It appears from reading on the page to purchase that Freebird is compatible with 2014, but the purchase fails because "You are trying to purchase Freebird and you must have the original Rocksmith."

What gives???  Thanks, Craig

If you wait for Steam's summer sale, RS1 will likely be around 50-60% off.  Maybe more.

Unfortunately it's a bit of a glitch with Steam's DLC policy.  Steam has a policy of not allowing people to download DLC for games they do not own, so that they don't buy the wrong DLC by accident (since the purchases are final and can't be refunded).

So because the original RS DLC was released under that game title, despite being forward compatible with RS 2014, Steam won't let you buy it without owning RS1.

They've been saying they are trying to fix it since RS 2014 came out, but so far apparently only a few of the original DLC files have been "fixed".

I'm not a great fan of Freebird on RS14, I find the tones to be pitiful and the arrangements confusing.  You ain't missing much.

I've thought about making my own version a few times (obvisouly it could not be released here) just to get the arrangements the way I want them.

It's kind of a shame that RS1 rarely goes on sale as opposed to RS2014, because I'd like to be able to get a couple of the RS1 DLC songs but I've been waiting a long time for a sale.
