April 15, 201510 yr Is there a simple rule to decide which of the notes become longer when this "triplet feel" notation is in effect? In your example, would it only apply to the first of two consecutive eighth notes? Would the eighth notes also have to be in the same measure?
April 16, 201510 yr Author I don't really understand the second question. The goal is to always set the first eigth note on beat as a 4th triplet and the second, the one we can call off beat, as a 8th triplet. Even if it is written as two 8th this should always be intrepreted as it. A lot of different rhythm interpretation is possible. In french we call it the Swing http://www.apprendrelesolfege.com/le-swing-jazzListen to In The Mood, written in only 8th but it is interpreted as triplet (both visible in my link) Take a look at my Workshop. April 16, 201510 yr Would EOF have to make sure only the on-beat notes are lengthened when triplet feel is in effect? For example, if the on-beat note is a rest, and immediately after, there are two eitghth notes (the first of them being on the off-beat), should the second of those eighth notes (the on-beat one) be lengthened instead of the first one?
April 17, 201510 yr Author Exactly. Only the first beat is lengthened while the second is therefore shortened. So the first 8th rest should be lengthened and the next 8th (off beat) shortened. Actually this is mainly a Jazzy interpretation consisting on delaying the off beat. You can find here the exact same measure written as 8th with interpretation and the equivalent with tuplet. Warning if the off beat is more than a 8th. no delay should be applied. Here the same example in different format. I can create more equivalency if you want me to. April 17, 201510 yr The language is too technical for me to jump into discussion but I know what you are on about, and if you can manage to add the functionality to GP import that would be sweet. I have a couple of customs that could benefit from "triplet feel" interpretation on import, and so if you need/want a couple of GP files to test I can link them up?
April 17, 201510 yr Author Yeah that would be usefull if you link them. I actually have only one and I think it is way to fast to understand well the process (Ten Years After - I'm Going Home) so if you have some quiete slow I think it would be helpful. April 17, 201510 yr How would other time signatures be handled with this style of rhythm? In 3/4 meter, would that mean the first and third beat in each measure are still down beats and that each measure only has one up beat?
April 17, 201510 yr I'm gonna put my hands up now and say that I cannot talk that high level music language that you guys are on about, but here are a couple of tabs that have caused me hassle and I think may relate to what you are discussing https://www.sendspace.com/file/g273o8 The bass in that plays fine in GP but imports far too "straight" to EoF and I had to adjust the gems manually to line up with the actual bass notes in the audio. And both the rhythm and bass in this do a similar thing, where the it sounds correct in GP but imports like straight 1, 2, 3, 4 in EoF. https://www.sendspace.com/file/8l22t2 Good luck and thanks :D
April 17, 201510 yr Author How would other time signatures be handled with this style of rhythm? In 3/4 meter, would that mean the first and third beat in each measure are still down beats and that each measure only has one up beat? No all beats should be treated as equals. Only the first 8th note is longer in each beat whatever the time signature is while this time signature is x/4 like take five which is 5/4. two 8th notes should always be played as one quarter note triplet and one 8th note triplet. I'm really sorry if i'm note clear but i'm not used with this name in music. I did solfège (solfeggio) but in french and all rhythm name are different I'm really sorry. But in fact this image should resume all our discution :https://musescore.org/sites/musescore.org/files/swing_0.jpg What it is displayed (two 8th notes) is not what we should actually play and what we ear (one quarter note triplet and one 8th note triplet) Take a look at my Workshop. April 17, 201510 yr Administrator This notation only say that every 8th note on beat should be played as a triplet 4th and that every 8th note on the upbeat (strictly in between two beat) should be played as a triplet 8th note. The only time signature where it won't work is any x/6 time signature (or the multiple like 3 or 12) but can be apply to any x/4 time signature (and the multiple like 2 or 8). This page is pretty good to explain it : http://www.musicarrangers.com/star-theory/t21.htmAnd this one is a bit more simplistic but still good enough : http://www.studybass.com/lessons/rhythm/shuffle-and-swing-rhythms/ Firekorn's workshop In Flames Discography #FirekornHasDoneNothingForTheCommunity

May 3, 201510 yr Author I just tested with my test file and i noticed only one tiny error. the last rythm two 16th followed by a 8th. the 8th should be delayed but currently it is imported as a normal 8th on the off-beat. It should be imported as the others two 16th then a 16th rest triplet and a 8th triplet. Thanks ahead you are amazing ! Take a look at my Workshop. You'll find which song I plan to create someday.
